3cappuccinosmom -> RE: What's For Dinner? (7/16/2008 3:23:54 PM)

Tanzania chicken and rice. That's chicken curry. I have no idea if it's actually Tanzanian or not, that's just what the recipe book said. [8D]

JJB1222 -> RE: What's For Dinner? (7/16/2008 6:55:02 PM)

I've had chicken noodle in the crock-pot all day. I love the "set it and forget it" type of meals.

uponeagleswings -> RE: What's For Dinner? (7/16/2008 8:33:21 PM)

leftover tandoori chicken from last night

Is that soup or a casserole type dish? Care to share a recipe?

We had tuna casserole and the last of the you-pick green beans.

I had a late hair appointment and DH got called back into work, so we needed quick: store-bought rotisserie chicken, bagged salad, canned green beans, and microwave baked potatoes.

isaacsmom -> RE: What's For Dinner? (7/16/2008 11:55:19 PM)

We had pizza at church. I love Wednesdays. [:D]

That's an interesting assortment.

We had Chicken and Green beans in Yoshida's sauce and DH had rice.

Now I am having a Kefir smoothie with coconut, strawberries, and blueberries.

Oh, YUM. I made a lot of Kefir smoothies last summer. Do you culture your own kefir?

It's the veggies I had in the freezer and fresh, homemade mac and cheese. It was wonderful, even if I was the cook. [;)]

Yes, Ma'm, I do! It's been great. Your mom cultures her own also, right? Has she tried making Kombucha?

It's just the soup...not exactly what I consider a summertime dish, but it's easy. I just threw a large chicken breast in the crock w/ onions and chicken stock, let it simmer a while, pulled the breast back out and shredded it, added it back in along with some frozen veggies, noddles, and seasonings. It was just me and the kids tonight...dh would never go for soup as a meal. [sm=aside.gif]

I'd like to try this...how do you do it? Do you need a starter?

PrincessDonna -> RE: What's For Dinner? (7/17/2008 10:38:21 AM)

She does. I got my start from her and kept it all last year, but I left my grains sitting in the fridge too long and so I threw them out since they hadn't been stored properly. I should get another start from her. I don't know if she's made Kombucha, what is that?

You do need a start, but once you have it, it's so easy. Just pour milk over the kefir "grains" (look like big curds) and let stand at room temp for 24 hrs. It will thicken and then you drain it off (leaving the grains again) and start the process over. If you don't want to keep making it, there are instructions online for storage of the grains. You can order the grains online or a lot of times get them at the health food store, I think.

cherish405 -> RE: What's For Dinner? (7/17/2008 11:29:46 AM)

Chicken filo florentine, (chicken, cream cheese and spinach wrapped in filo pastry), roast vegetables and peas.

lexie -> RE: What's For Dinner? (7/17/2008 12:11:52 PM)

Last night we ordered in Greek food for Dh's birthday - chicken souvlaki all around.

Tonight, probably Shepherd's Pie.

cynthia -> RE: What's For Dinner? (7/17/2008 2:13:15 PM)

I love kefir. I have grains in my fridge. They last for a long time. However, I have been starting it from the kefir I already have rather than wasting the expensive grains. Turns out great every time. I would also like to know what kombucha is.

We are having Papa Murphy's Pizza tonight.

I started this thread, then forgot to sub to it and wondered why no one was posting what they were having dinner. [:)]

isaacsmom -> RE: What's For Dinner? (7/17/2008 2:14:21 PM)

We're having meatloaf, mashed potatoes, squash out of the garden.
