Over the weekend I read an article in our local newspapers about pedicures. The basic premise of this article was that women should have well pedicured feet because men assess our feet. I got to thinking that there are quite a lot of articles about what women should and should not do to attract men's attention, but there aren't many articles telling men what to do to attract women's attention.

Anyways, while I was in the bank that article came to mind and I decided to carry out a mini survey to see if men took care of their feet, just as they expect us to take care of ours. I was astonished to note that out of about 6 pairs of male feet (on display) only one pair was attractive looking. Apparently men are in need of an article about basic foot care!

I would like to hear your thoughts on this apparent bias. Do men feel the need to have well-kept feet? If not, why is it that men don't feel the need to take care of their feet but expect women to take care of theirs. (What's sauce for the goose....)

I have never accepted nor rejected a woman based on how her feet looked. In most cases I haven't a clue what her feet looked like. As long as they are not smelly and she's not stabbing me with her toe nails they never really enter the picture

Just like any other part of the body feet should be cared for (clean, nails trimmed etc) but anything beyond that is kind of "poofy" for a guy. Feet are tools. They get us from place to place and enable us to do what we need to do. So we need to make sure they are in proper working order and protected (proper footwear for the task etc). I don't see the need for anything more than that. (When married a man needs to keep callouses under control so they don't irritate his wife's feet while playing footsies however)

Ditto both parts of John_O's reply.

Sometimes I walk on other peoples feet as well as my own.

many women wear sandals (or flip-flops non stop), thus having their feet always on display. although i usually wear sandals (except in winter) when not at work, i notice most men don't and wear sneakers or shoes. thus i believe many more women's feet are on display so it's logical they need to put more work into their feet if they are showing them off.

The salon owner where I get my hair cut has the cutest feet, and her toes are always nicely manicured. She is very pretty all over anyway, but I'm always impressed by her well manicured toes, cute little feet and attractive shoes. Her fiance' was my trainer (till I couldn't afford him no mo'), and I always wonder if he notices her feet ha ha.

I do notice when a woman has nicely manicured feet, but I have never had a critical opinion of anyone's feet either. And like I will fear no evil said, men's feet aren't usually very exposed, and when they are it's usually a casual situation. I do want to be more faithful with my feet. Now that my house guest that was here for 3 weeks went home, maybe I can do that.

Not at all being argumentative, just giving another side. Some women go barefoot and wear sandals only when necessary (driving) because that's how they were raised or maybe even just prefer, they aren't all doing it to show off feet.

That being said, a guy should wash his feet at least once a day and keep the nails trimmed, same as for a female imo. But then, if I were the least bit for big (or even medium) government I would love to make pedicures illegal.

Ohmygoodness - I've never had a pedicure! Does that make me slovenly?

I haven't even gotten around to painting my toenails since last summer.

I asked my husband if he checked out my feet before we were married. He just looked at me funny. Then I said he probably did and was relieved to see that they were not pedicured, so that he wouldn't have to worry about paying for that after marriage.

Just like every other stereotype out there, this is definitely not true for everyone. It sounds to me like that reporter got paid under the table by the pedicure cartel in order to write an article that would bring in more business.

You know, I've never had a pedicure in my life - I do them myself. I keep my nails painted - because, living in FL, we wear open-toed shoes year around, and I just like the look of my feet with my nails painted.

But, Tricia - I do agree with you - wholeheartedly!

I did think that because men usually have their feet hidden in sneakers, etc. they believe that they got away from good foot care. But in a relationship these hidden things tend to be exposed. In my last dating relationship I remember trying to get a sneak peek at his feet whenever I could. I have a thing for well-kept feet. By well-kept I mean: trimmed toe-nails, clean toes, non-scaly heals, no blisters.

I've only ever had a pedicure once and that was a treat from a friend for my birthday about two years ago. But the pedicure was a treat. Other than that I generally take care of my feet via. the normal nail trimming etc & once in a while I use the St. Yves foot scrub.

What prompted me to do the survey in the bank: Well, I was minding my own business looking around to pass the time, when I was horrified by one man's feet that were 'proudly' on display . That brought the article to mind and after that shock I decided to check out how many guys will be coming in with slippers etc. I was quite amazed to see so many.

I've got scaly heels. They're genetic. I've learned to live with them and with the idea I'll never have perfect feet.

I have had pedicures, and loved them, but now in middle age, they make me have to rush to the bathroom...that bubbling water....

so I don't get them anymore, and men that are all that hung up on women's feet...well...have a weird hangup.

You are so funny! But, I too like to people watch and that is something I would have noticed.

Pedicures are a luxury for me. Taking care of your feet is important. We walk on those. Soaking feet, rubbing off the hard skin and massaging afterward is so relaxing. I can not afford to have someone do it, so I do it myself.

I know that feeling. I haven't learned to live with it yet. I'm still trying to work on it. Plus I have thick nails on one foot & keeping them painted/polished makes them look so much better in the summer.

I like getting pedicures & the way it makes me feel about myself.

We folks from the coast are used to such "pedicures" every time we go into the Gulf or Atlantic or Pacific!

this is my fave part ... initially places had one long shared tank before gov't regulated:

The communal pool also presented its own problem: At times the fish would flock to the feet of an individual with a surplus of dead skin, leaving others with a dearth of fish.

"It would sometimes be embarrassing for them but it was also really hilarious," Ho said.

Ok, here's my take, I do find a woman's well manicured and tainted toenails attractive looking. Ironically, I was on the train last night and 2 of the young women did not have their toenails painted at all. It was basically a neutral look in my oppinion.

As far as mens feet, as it has already been mentioned they are usually covered up instead.
