LOL I was the first to vote on this and saw that it said my say so was worth 100%. I've been telling my wife this for years and now I finally have the proof. Out of the one's mentioned I had to go with Eric Bennet for voice quality, ability to sing smooth leads as well as hit the low notes. I like Aaron McCune a lot, but he has a ways to go before he is as smooth as Eric is. Plus, Eric doesn't seem to have the....I don't know how to say it nicely so I'll just say it....ego that Aaron McCune has. Don't get me wrong, Gold City is my favorite quartet, but Aaron has a little arrogance about him on stage that I can't get into.

I'll join you in the 100% for Eric Bennett!!! I don't think Aaron's really arrogant. He has a quieter personality than others who are so extremely outgoing, so I think some people may think that he's a bit arrogant. In the time he's been with Gold City, I've seen him become more relaxed on stage. He really can be quite funny and warm.

That could be it, but I don't know. He just has this thing that he puts off that seems like arrogance. Hopefully I'm reading it wrong. I mean, he's nice when you talk to him off stage but onstage his movements and facial expressions while he's singing just turn me off a little.

I voted for Glenn Dustin. I've seen very few bass singers that are as dedicated to improving themselves as Glenn is. His voice training that he's received are becoming evident in Legacy Five's stuff nowadays.

I voted for Aaron McCune. My No. 1 choice for bass is Jeff Chapmen from the Kingdom Heirs. Also, there's some real good videos of Aaron on youtube where he shows his funny side.

I took the opportunity to find some youtube vids of all the basses to refresh myself. I'd have to say I really like the tone and professionalism of Glenn Dustin (Legacy Five). He sounds great, and he's just "sharp" to me.

I voted for Aaron. He is one of the most consistent bass singers out there today. Aaron will be around for a long time. Great Bass Voice...Great Technician. .............In my humble opinion.

Glen got my vote, but Eric and Mike Alen are also on my list. Have not heard enough of the others to have an opinion on them. I always love it when Glan takes the lead on a song. Especially on an old hymn like Amazing Grace.

I don't understand the question. Did i miss something. Are we suppose to list a TOP 5 of our own? Or do we just pick a fav from this list of 5? Or do we list our fav 5 still singing?...or do we list top 5 all-time? Help! PJ

If I was picking my top 5 overall list, I think it would include Christian Davis, David Hester, and Randy Byrd. And I suppose we're free to take the thread off-topic in that direction, but the point of the poll was to get a forums feeling for the Fan Awards poll.

Well, I had to go with Glenn Dustin on this list. I really think Tim Duncan is hard to beat on bass voice, I just don't like the whole EHSS gig, but Tim is a great bass singer. I personally like Christian Davis about as well as anyone out there, and David Hester as well. On THIS LIST, I go with Glenn Dustin and them Mike Holcomb. I suppose if I had to pick the best bass voice of all time, for me it would be Gene McDonald. Very smooth and effortless, just all natural Gene.

On the poll, Mike Holecomb hands down. I feel that McCune was better with Palmetto State, as if he's slacked off since joining Gold City. But I've never seen them live since he joined. I've only heard the CD "Revival" and the song "I Cast My Bread". Who knows, I could be speaking out of ignorance. I feel that these in the top 5 fan awards nominations are a weak representation of Southern Gospel's basses. Not that they're bad, but they aren't the best. Other than Mike, the others are relativley young and their voices haven't developed to their full potential. Give them some more years of singing, and then put them on the ballot for the award. But from the fact that these 5 made it into the finals, I guess I'm in the minority. Now, for those NOT on the poll, my top 5 basses........ (in order) Jim Stewart Tim Riley James "Big Cheif' Wetherington Jeff Pearles Calvin Runion MAYBE switch Calvin or Jeff Pearles for George Younce/ Jeff Chapman/ Chris West. I'm still undecided on that. It's unfortunate that, of the living ones, only Jeff Chapman is currently with a group that gets constant national recognition. SOOOOOOOOOO many great basses have been/ still are on the stage.
