Ok, I'm a newby in this area, so you'll have to educate me. Who are Hovind and Baugh, and why are they so unreliable?

They're both YEC apologists. Kent Hovind (DrDino.com) and his family run/ran Dinosaur Adventure Land in Florida. Both have doctorates from diploma mills (though Baugh's 2005 doctorate in theology from Louisiana Baptist U may be legit) and both have a history of espousing and promoting not just questionable, but downright laughable "evidence" for YE Creationism. Baugh's big thing is a variety of fossils supposedly showing that humans co-existed with dinosaurs. Trouble is (among other things), the hand and footprints he uses either aren't human or are likely hoaxes. Hovind's got a habit of gathering up and promoting evidence from people who are either incompetent (like Baugh) or are charlatans, like Ron Wyatt who claimed to have found a number of Biblical artifacts including Noah's Ark and the Ark of the Convenant.

Thanks. I didn't want to spoil the party, but I personally don't fine YEC worth the paper they print their stuff on. I used to believe in it, but I've read too much other stuff over the years--including stuff written by Christians--that contradicted it. I have never been one to follow the Christian herd just because we're supposed to do or believe something.
As for Wyatt, I've heard about him. Don't get me started.

Is he the one who came out with a book recently on that bowl-shaped thing that was supposed to be the Ark? Call me ignorant, but I have read the specifications that clearly spell out very clearly how the Ark was to be built and it wasn't even remotely close.

He may have come out with something like that, but it wasn't recently. He died in 1999.

That's where I come from, too. The amount of misinformation coming from not just the quacks, but also the more mainstream YEC organizations is pretty disturbing. Once I had access to information from "the other side," it didn't take me long to realize that I'd been lied to for many years.

Well, the good thing is that these people stepped up to the plate and put their lives behind it. That is way we are talking about these giants of faith and no one is taking about us. God bless those who bless God and His children...

Hmm.. I guess that rules him out, huh? (hee, hee) Whoever it was was a forty-something that felt that he had found the Ark in Central Africa. He carbon-dated it and it fit the time period. He was interviewd on the morning shows earlier this year. Anyway...
InfoCentral-- this is the second post that I've seen from you chastising members of this "Chrisian forum" for having an opinion. It is completely okay for Christians to discern fact and fiction and share our thoughts. I don't consider someone a "Giant of the Faith" if he is spreading mis-information, quoting shoddy science, or otherwise misleading in the name of God. God doesn't need our help to be the Architect of the Universe, nor does He need us trying to "help" Him prove that He did it this way or that way through dubious means. They aren't being persecuted if they are being exposed as wrong or careless. I wouldn't want anyone "talking about [me]" if it was in the context of how well-meaning, but careless I was in teaching others about God's great works. That only leads seekers to feelings of betrayal and they walk away from my faith--may it never be so!
Now, from what I understand, the Creation Museum near me (Kentucky) is very well received and I would encourage anyone in the area to come by and see it-- I promise that I'll get there soon, too!

we have a dinosaur adventure land locally here next to the christian college. I've probably driven by it a thousand times. It's interesting to read some of the crazy theories people come up with trying to explain events that are not meant to be deduced and broken apart, and then go against gap-theory by crossing gaps with the bridges of their imagination. So the earth is 6000 8000 10000 10billion years old? Does it really matter? No. Did God give the inspired writers of scripture limitless knowledge of geology, climatology, astronomy and physics? Unlikely, so why must we try to read it like He did?
Anyhoo, I might swing by next time im in town, if/when I do, I'll give a report. (although the theology I saw written on the walls of the schoolhouse in the slideshow on their site is a put-off. Nothing gets a mind going like the capital word LIES at the beginning of a statement.)

I'm with you, Jet... You make a good point. The text was written by human hands, but inspired by the Holy Spirit. Yes, they likely had understanding beyond what they were capable of by themselves, but certainly not limitless knowledge. It isn't an issue for me and the age of the Earth says nothing that contradicts my understanding of my Jesus and what He's done in my own life.
