ORIGINAL: MusicianDad My favorite Styx. Hang in there 'til 1:47. It's a killer riff! Queen Of Spades - Styx http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LHuQMv8o5yg Queen of Spades live is awesome!!! I think they're great live period...and T. Shaw's guitar playing makes me totally ill! The 12 string picking on Crystal Ball...oh yeah...but as a (now retired) guitar player, I used to listen to that stuff and play until my fingers bled. Ok...I lost a little interest in the "Roboto" era, (but there are still a couple killer tunes on that album), and the "Show Me The Way" era...but quickly perked up interest in their current incarnation. Have you heard any of Tommy Shaw's solo stuff or the stuff he did with Jack Blades? NDY

It's not Classic Rock, though. Post a favorite rock video from the greatest period in music history, 1968-1990.

Hey Dad… Here are a couple long forgotten boys for ya… Remember Joe Walsh? I could find anything on the tube that was good quality but check out the Triumph doing a rendition of Rocky Mountain way, it has everything, guitar, bass solos etc.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_350v-Gi3M&feature=related quote:
Coverdale is just awesome! If I had a good voice, I'd want it to sound just like his. Yea, he never held back, Hey this band has what each of us like, strong rhythm, driving bass and excellent vocals…. what do you think…is Rik Emmett's vocals (Triumph) a close second to Coverdale? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=77l8HggcA2M&feature=related LG

ORIGINAL: NotDoneYet Ummm...my favorite(s) were (and are) Sammy Hagar - "I can't drive 55" Styx - "Too Much Time on My Hands" Billy Squier - "The Stroke" (don't ask) NDY quote:
Greetings, Forgot all about Styx, as a matter of fact I named my first dog Styx, after the band.... and one of her puppies ....Coda, (back to the beginning). Haven't found a good live video on the tube for Sammy...by the way... what was the name of the band Sammy was in before he went solo?? LG I have been a Styx fan for probably 30 years...seen them live more times than I care to count. Sammy Hagar's band...I forget... Anyway...I'm old, I'm a girl, these are the videos I remember from when MTV was first on the air... Oh...and Metallica's One and Fuel rank up there for videos... NDY Greetings… Since your so old ….can we call you Mom...LOL!! NotDoneYet …do you remember Deep Purple?, Here is a more recent rendition …Whitesnake style….also done by Whitesnake who did.. (In the Still of the night) ….but I can’t link that one… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sN8grtFUQYs&feature=related LG Sure you can call me Mom!!!! (my oldest kid will be 26 next month...) Yep...I remember Deep Purple...all my wanna-be boyfriends tryin' to play Smoke On The Water! I gotta say...being a teenager in the 70's was full of great music...and I like everything from Black Sabbath to The Eagles (never did disco, but you gotta hear Rob Zombie's remakes of "I'm your Boogie Man" and "Brick House")...I lost interest in grunge and woke back up long about Aerosmith's Permanent Vacation... My kids STILL steal my CD's....(and my 3 year old is a baby headbanger) NDY Greetings, quote:
Sure you can call me Mom!!!! (my oldest kid will be 26 next month...) You know what made me ask that... was when I was in my teens and early 20's, my Sisiter and I used go everywhere together, my Mom always called her the black sheep of the family (a 60,s child)... but I was attracted because she was just different, she was not like my Religious family, and at that time I didn't know any better what that even meant!... ...So we always dragged each other out wherever we went...to go shopping and stuff like that, after a while she became a regular supporter of the band and when I use to introduced her I always said she my Mom ...(just teasing)...she was 15 years older than me...(but I just trying to keep her out of trouble!!).... ..., but after a while I kind of quit doing that after a while when she clocked me in the ribs! quote:
Yep...I remember Deep Purple...all my wanna-be boyfriends tryin' to play Smoke On The Water! I should post this one up in the offence thread! but ...Man if you couldn’t get that song right, you had no future!! LOL!! quote:
Oh...and Metallica's One and Fuel rank up there for videos... I never entered into the head banger or the full Metal scenes but I still have a copy of Enter Sandman by Metallica, I like to practice…those crazy 8th notes…and the song is easily done. quote:
Queen of Spades live is awesome!!! I think they're great live period...and T. Shaw's guitar playing makes me totally ill! The 12 string picking on Crystal Ball...oh yeah...but as a (now retired) guitar player, I used to listen to that stuff and play until my fingers bled. Which stuff, Metal... or the 12 string? Just recently I was speaking to an older (secular) Metal Momma, and I remember a word of wisdom she gave, when she said, “Metal Mommas don’t get old...they just get saved.... I thought that was great!!...So…..I mentioned to her that she should write a Christian song and use that as the name of the song…but I still refused the offer to play, just not my motif …besides I don’t think my neck is as flexible as it was!! LG

HERE'S an even better version of Country Boy. Looks like it's from the 80s. I'm not sure what guitar he's playing. Some kind of Custom Strat or a knock off.

Did Leslie West give up on Les Paul Junior? Still awesome tone, though. I always liked Alvin Lee, too. I have an LP with a song called "Woodchoppers Ball" which has some great jazz guitaring, it just smokes! It sounds like it's recorded in a small club. That makes it sound even cooler. I went to a Mountain concert around 1984 and my ears are still ringing! They shared a bill with Savoy Brown, Iron Butterfly and Mark Farner. We almost caught Mark's harmonica when he threw it in the audience. I play a mid 70s Les Paul Deluxe I picked up for a couple hundred bucks in the mid 80s. It had a bad finish so I stripped it down and kept it natural. I'll never get rid of that guitar, but I would like to supplement it with a Strat or Tele. $$$ is always the issue.
