think you are right. I think Florida will have a show down with USC in the NCG and I am looking forward to it. Don't get me wrong, I don't like either team, rather, I hate both teams with a passion. You see I am a Buckeye fan and, as a result, dislike both teams for a good reason. Really, I just want to see them beat up on each other and also watch USC play a decent team rather than feeding off the Big Ten every year in easy bowl wins.

I can understand where you're coming from. It looks like USC has a lock on one side of the championship game this year, and I hope Florida will be the other team. We have several challenges to overcome first, but I believe we are capable. I have always thought USC overrated and believed thay had too soft a schedule to be rated as they always are. Maybe we'll get the chance to see who's right.

USC is by far the best team in the PAC 10 and will undefeated unless they beat themselves.

SEC on the other hand has 4 or 5 teams capable of winning the conference with 4 teams ranked in the top 10. I think UGA, LSU, Bama, UF and possibly AU are all capable of making the title game.

Of course I hope that team is UGA.

Well this is something of a speculation because USC always gets stuck beating up on the Big Ten. For example, USC has beaten the last 14 consecutive Big Ten teams it has faced. Not only that, they beat all of them BADLY. Therefore, I think the old standard of having the best in the Big Ten face the best in the PAC 10 in the Rose Bowl is an antiquated system at best. Sure, USC and the best of the Big Ten were equals and these games were interesting at one time, but no more. In addition, Ohio State has faced 9 SEC teams in the past and lost every single one of them. In fact, they have lost badly of late. Therefore, I think the rules should be changed so that USC must face a good SEC team at least once a year to help establish who is better. In fact, I think perhaps the best SEC team and the best PAC 10 team should face off in the Rose Bowl from now on.

I guess my biggest fear is that the SEC will cannibalize each other again and they will all have at least one loss. Then you may get a team like Penn State who comes in undefeated and abra cadabra we have a blow out in the NCG once again as USC crushes yet another Big Ten team.

As long as I can remember, USC seems just as good, if not better, than any team out there at the end of the year. For example, last year I was relieved that my Buckeyes did not go to the Rose Bowl to face USC but instead faced LSU. Even though my Buckeyes got crushed, I knew they would have taken a worse beating at the hands of USC.

Perhaps they should start another level of play that is above college football but below the NFL? Then again, USC could probably beat up on the Bengals. LOL

Edit: Does anyone know what the original abbreviations are for USC were? Originally they stood for "University of Spoiled Children". LOL.

I guess part of the answer would be to put the Rose bowl in with all of the other BCS bowls, and not tie them to any conference. Without a play-off system, it will always be difficult, if not impossible, to really determine a national champion or any truly meaningful post season ranking. What we have now is basically a popularity system. Even though I'm a staunch Gator fan and really believe we have one of the best teams on the country, I would like the chance to prove or disprove it.

Looks like I, along with the rest of the college football country, didn't reckon with Oregon State. Call it what you want to, but last night Oregon State had USC's number. Whether it was a fluke or not, I can't say, but they played a fine game last night. I don't know if I have ever watched a PAC 10 game all the way through, but I did that one.

Oregon State really embarrassed USC, and I can't wait to watch Georgia tangle with the Tide!!

Louisville is having a hard time with UConn right now...

Not a good week for some of the top 20. The Badgers lost a 19 point lead to the Wolverines (the ineligible receiver penalty was a backbreaker), the Dawgs were humiliated by the Tide, and the Gators' blocked extra point came back to bite them!

Cool to see John Parker Wilson break a few 'Bama passing records.

But, Penn State and Oklahoma looked real good.

I am just tickled by the Fresno State Bulldogs' win over UCLA

Yep! Kicked that Bulldawg Boodie!

Tide looked really good in the 1sy half. It is amazing to see how well the frsh and sophs are playing. Wilson has been looking great.
2nd half was a little scary but Saban certainly noticed sa ghe mentioned it over and over in post game.
I'll be surprised if anyone makes it out of the SEC undefeated, but the Tide looks really good.

My Longhorns did what they were supposed to. Trample the Razorbacks.
Colorado should be a better test for them.

My Gators were on the hurtful side of one of the big upsets. No excuses here. I could play the if--then game all day, but the biggest if--then is if we had scored more then them -- we would have won the game. I take nothing from "Ole Miss". They played a good game --- better then we did. I expected one loss to an SEC team this year. I just hope we can keep it to one!

Well, Clemson looked really good in the first half of the game against Maryland except for when they decided to pass at 3rd and short on the first drive and settled for a field goal. For whatever reason at half-time, the coaches decided to completely change what was working in the first half and Maryland outscored us 14-0 to win the game 20-17. You got to hand it to Coach Fridgen for putting a lot of misdirection in the 2nd half.

We go through this every year. In pre-season it looks like we have almost everything we need to have a great year that creates a lot of hype. When I made my first post, I really thought we had a shot to win them all although I predicted a 10-2 season. After seeing all of the games so far in person, it is looking like Clemson will be lucky to be 8-4. None of the three wins have been impressive because of the teams we played.

I'm not surprised 'bama beat Georgia; however, I could not believe the Tide was up 31-0 at half-time. Yes, I did think Georgia would win because they were home. If the way Alabama demolished my Tigers the first game of the year didn't make other teams aware of them, I'm sure they are now. Saban has done a remarkable job with his young team. I'm interested to see them line up against the Tigers of LSU.

11/08/08,Should be interesting.
But they can't look past UK or Ole MIss.

Texas playing Colorado before the showdown with Oklahoma really bothers me. They have a tendency to be sluggish against unranked teams before big games, and Colorado could give them some trouble.

My Dawgs lost an ugly one, play an unbeliveably bad 1st half. Seems we do that at least once a year. Did it last year against Tennessee.
Bama is a great team and deserved the win but we made it easy for them with penalties, turnovers and horrible punting in the 1st half.

USC falls WOOT. how about Bama showing just exactly who is the team in the SEC. I believe they jumped AHEAD of LSU in the rankings. Roll Tide.

maybe now the doubters will drop it and accept the fact that Alabama is a tough team. yeah been a fan since middle 70's. I can brag on my team.

as for the conferences.

1. SEC
2. Big 12
3. Big 10
4. maybe Pac 10

yes number 4. who do they have that is solid? USC maybe is the only powerhouse in the conference.

and to the one that said the east coast gets the media attention. come on. USC jumped ahead of georgia and BOTH teams win?

please.

SEC will always be the powerhouse conference in football.

Brutal!! All I can say is it is what kinda happened the last time UM faced them eh? In fact, USC has beaten the last 14 match ups with Big Ten teams and they beat them BADLY.

The sad fact of the matter is that USC has been playing on a different level than the Big Ten for over a decade and a half. Perhaps OSU will even have to face them in the Rose Bowl again this year. One thing is for certain, however, and that is we will have to face them again next
year and I think they will fare and little better.....or at least I can hope can't I?

People in glass houses . . . remember Appalachian State. OSU lost to the number one team. What was Appalachian State ranked when they beat Michigan? Talk about an embarrassment.
