twoboys -> When do you get your exercise in? (8/13/2008 2:06:24 PM)

Trying to get myself on a schedule. I hate mornings but I think getting up and getting it down with is best. At night I'm tired.

What does everyone do?

NoShow -> RE: When do you get your exercise in? (8/13/2008 2:10:47 PM)

I do most of it in the morning (4:00am-ish to 5:30am) and do some in the evening (an hour or so, anywhere between 4:00pm and 7:30pm)

Usually right after work or right after dinner. If I go to the gym that's when most of the classes I go to are held.

Weekends early afternoon.

his_chosen -> RE: When do you get your exercise in? (8/13/2008 5:56:22 PM)

First thing in the morning. I'm usually up at 5:30am. 3-4 days a week I swim, then run. Other days, I start with a bike ride first, then run. Saturdays long run early in the morning. Sundays long ride when ever I can fit it in.

I find that if I get it in early in the morning, it's DONE for the day. Noone can take that time away from me. If I wait until later in the day, things tend to get in the way.

My son is also training for a duathlon. He prefers to work out in the evening. I don't know. He gets all his workouts in.

Holy Moly you guys! My dh is at the gym when the doors open at 5am Monday-Friday. That's insanity.

If you're not a morning person, IMO, that's setting yourself up for failure. If I tried to make myself get up like that, it just plain wouldn't happen. I don't have it in me. Another post mentioned going when the classes are . . . unless you're incredibly motivated (and some people are), I suggest doing that. Do something that has to be done at a specific time, like a class. I find that, otherwise, I'm too easily distracted.

I've been doing it for about 24 years now, so I guess I must be a morning person.

Sometimes its mornings...sometimes evenings...depends on the day, and work/family schedules.

BUT-because I make it a priority.....Most weeks I am able to exercise 6 out of 7 days.

The problem with working out before work if you have a day job is that women leave their stuff out (curling irons, etc) so they can get ready and it's hard to get ready in the way that you are used to if there are people in your way. Plus you have to be super organized because there is nothing more maddening than missing something important out of your gym bag and its planning at least one extra meal or snack. I went a few times and people like "claim" their treadmill at that time of the morning and didn't like the new people. Obviously its a little easier for men.

With kids, I think you do have to just make a commitment to get it in one way or another. Especially when school starts (field trips, parties, meetings, sick days, etc.), I go back to a schedule that I don't always have much control over.

I get my exercise chasing my kids around and when they go back to school, I walk outside in the nice weather, and when it gets cold, I use my treadmill and stairstepper.

I am NOT a morning person! There's nothing like lounging in bed. Trust me, when I can, I sleep in for as long as possible!

That said, I like to compete in triathlons. It is not uncommon for my coach to give me workouts that take up to two hours. We home school, and I like to get school started by 9am. You do the math... And sometimes I work with my swim coach, and his only free time is 6:15am. I want to compete. I know what it takes. I'm willing to put in the work.

I've not had a problem with my current gym. Generally that early in the morning it's not too busy. Frequently I'm the only one in the pool. I was shocked yesterday when there were actually three other swimmers. I run outside, so I don't know what equipment use is like in the cardio room.

In the locker room there are regulars who do take up a lot of counter space with their make up, curling irons, etc. However, if I need to sneak in to use a hair dryer, they always make room for me.

I was working with anotehr swim coach for a while, and her gym wasn't quite as friendly. Only two lanes for swimming requiring lane sharing. And some of the women in the locker room were snotty. So when I needed to join a gym, I looked elsewhere.

Mid-morning (9-11) I'm not a morning person, either.

crankius -> RE: When do you get your exercise in? (8/15/2008 12:47:38 AM)

I used to run in the evenings at around 7:00. During this summer though I changed it to mornings so that my evenings would be free for family time.

Now that school is starting, I think I'll go back to 7:00 at night. I can run so much more in the evening. The mornings have been TOUGH!!!

Wonder_Woman -> RE: When do you get your exercise in? (8/15/2008 1:31:01 PM)

I exercise early in the morning. Too many other things going on, and before I know it the day is over and it's bedtime and I had missed yet another workout. So, even though it's hard sometimes, I force myself to get it out of the way first thing. I always feel better because of it.

scottmcc1 -> RE: When do you get your exercise in? (8/15/2008 9:35:50 PM)

Before and after work, I commute to work on a bicycle. I ride between 10 to 30 miles a day. 60-90 miles a week.

PrincessButtercup -> RE: When do you get your exercise in? (8/16/2008 9:09:45 PM)

I don't believe in mornings. I do mine at night, not long before I go to sleep.

They actually do exist. [8D][;)]

Mrs.Wifey -> RE: When do you get your exercise in? (8/17/2008 3:26:42 PM)

I would prefer to work out in the mid-morning, but I end up having to go around between 6-7am before DH leaves for work. It is kinda early, but I am a morning person and it works.

Oh, and I worked in a gym for awhile on the opening shift(5am) and the regulars will eventually make room for the newbies if they come regularly.

Konstantinos -> RE: When do you get your exercise in? (8/18/2008 5:33:51 PM)

i prefer mornings.. couple hours after i wake up or so. cant do squats with a spine that has just woken up.

but i have olympic weightlifting at 7-9p.m. usually. thankfully you dont use your max strength there so it doesnt matter much physically... more emotionally.
