Stick to the subject

JimboFletch -> RE: Reasons to vote for Barak Obama (8/14/2008 9:47:52 AM)

1) I have completely lost my mind and think liberals can save the country with more taxes and even more government control.

Jhud -> RE: Reasons to vote for Barak Obama (8/14/2008 10:11:02 AM)

(Originally from Todd Smyth) -

http://www.barackoblogger.com/2007/10/top-10-reasons-to-vote-for-obama.html

1. Barack Obama has personal experience with poverty and the growing income gap, having grown up abroad in Indonesia and working as a community organizer in the south side of Chicago.

2. After graduating Harvard Law, Magna Cum Laude and president of the Harvard Law Review, Obama could have become a wealthy corporate or trial lawyer but returned to Chicago to practice civil rights law.

3. He also taught Constitutional Law at the University of Chicago, so he knows how our government is supposed to work.

4. (Removed as it was applicable only to the Democratic nominatin process)

5. He opposed the Iraq war before it started and has a specific plan for redeploying all combat troops ...(within sixteen months). (Edited as the original date, based on a sixteen-month schedule, has had
"implementation-slide".

6. He has received an A+ score from the Genocide Intervention Network for being a "champion" and taking crucial action to end the genocide in Darfur, co-sponsoring and voting for all significant Darfur legislation.

7. Barack Obama is committed to universal health care by the end of his first term.

8. (I removed this one from Smyth's list because I don't happen to view it as a good thing.)

9. He has ... not accepted PAC money and is the least compromised by big money special interests.

10. has the intellect, natural talent and charisma to communicate effectively to the entire world, bring people together, change the status quo and move our country forward. (Some of this duplicates some of Jhud's list)

huskarine -> RE: Reasons to vote for Barak Obama (8/14/2008 12:12:17 PM)

1. possible outcome of coin-flip...[:@]

2. his background in Black liberation theology

3. his upbringing in faith by Jeremiah Wright

4. Taxes...gotta love them taxes

and the list goes on and on...

Pat-rebel_lady -> RE: Reasons to vote for Barak Obama (8/14/2008 12:15:36 PM)

Change

of which include:

More Taxes, mandatory laws & requirements

More investment in scientific research

Believes that America should lead the world in broadband penetration and Internet access. As a country, we have ensured that every American has access to telephone service and electricity, regardless of economic status, and Obama will do likewise for broadband Internet access.

Will invest $10 billion a year over the next five years to move the U.S. health care system to broad adoption of electronic health information systems, including electronic health records. He will also phase in requirements for full implementation of health IT and commit the necessary federal resources to make it happen.

Has the money he has raised to buy more Band aids to fix, and, cosmetics to cover that which is broken in order to invest in the race to save the planet. His proven commitment and ability to engage all people in the critical effort to provide a safe, clean future for America. Barack Obama’s dedication to the environment has been well-established during his years as a state legislator and U.S. Senator. Environmentalists for Obama know that he is the answer to the tough challenges facing us today.

By the way, thank you, Jhud, for behaving like an adult.

Jhud -> RE: Reasons to vote for Barak Obama (8/14/2008 12:31:59 PM)

No prob. I try (though often fail) to stay within the parameters of the OP.

Jhud, did you get that warm fuzzy feeling when the grand poo-pah of moderator wannabees cast flowers at your feet??

The reason I would vote for B. Hussein Obama would be if I lost my everloving mind.

Thanks
RC

Well, I am a little bit like the little old lady who had a reputation for for being able to say something nice about anyone. When challenged to say something nice about the devil, she replied, "Well, he's diligent!". [;)]

I agree with the details that Jack listed, but would add the appeal of Obama symbolizing a completely new page in American history, and his openness in seeking out contrary opinions in order to gauge all sides of an issue (i.e. Lincoln).

IMO, a leader who surrounds him or herself with yes-men and lackeys is no leader at all.

davemiller7 -> RE: Reasons to vote for Barak Obama (8/14/2008 1:31:55 PM)

Sorry. I can't think one reason to vote for Obama. [X(]

agreed, yes men are essentially monkeys...

but i believe BO has his own agenda, no matter how he tries to sugar coat it with talked bipartisanship...what's his track record???

huangshan -> RE: Reasons to vote for Barak Obama (8/14/2008 1:53:22 PM)

I think he's incredibly smart. I think it's been a while since we had a really smart guy in the office. What he lacks in experience, he makes up in skill and judgment. He looks for nuance in difficult areas of policy and doesn't seek to fix them with a hammer.

It should be mentioned, if you love taxes, you're not necessarily going to love Obama. If I recall, he's mostly just going to be undoing the Bush cuts on the wealthy. The poor and middle class will be untouched.

taxing the wealthy??? isn't that discrimination??? seems unfair to me...

Evangel70 -> RE: Reasons to vote for Barak Obama (8/14/2008 1:57:03 PM)

1. Obama would NOT continue the Bush legacy.

2. Willingness and ability to work across party line to get things done.

3. Not a career politician and less likely to be bought by lobbyists.

4. Would do a better job of restoring America's global reputation.

5. Would end our involvement in Iraq and hold the Iraqis responsible for finding a political solution to their centuries old desputes.

6. Would put more troops in Afghanistan and go after Osama Bin Laden and the 9/11 terrorists.

7. Would create tax policies that benefit the 90% of families earning less than $250,000 a year.

8. Would do more to unite the country as Americans rather than divide it into red and blue states.

9. Would respect the balance of power outlined in the constitution and protect our bill of rights rather than see the presidency as "above the law".

10. His youth will allow him to run for a second term.

One reason, and one reason only (first posited by ZZ Top): "Every girl's crazy 'bout a sharp-dressed man." [8D]

Ah, nothing like some good old fashioned wealth envy...

Why Vote For Obama?

1. Obama will insure that conservatives retake power in two to four years (of course by that time he will have done so much damage that we'll be fixing it for generations)

2. He does spell a definitive end to the horrendous Clinton influence within the Democratic party.

JimboFletch -> RE: Reasons to vote for Barak Obama (8/14/2008 2:10:56 PM)

Don't forget, his wife will be really proud of this country more than ever before.

huskarine -> RE: Reasons to vote for Barak Obama (8/14/2008 2:11:55 PM)

change we failed by believing in...

Obama-bashers just can't contain themselves can they? It must be a product of too much Fox News and talk radio. I'm sure it does something to the psyche. [:D][:D]

I suppose you could consider it discrimination if you stretch the definition a bit. "Discrimination" normally implies a disregard for individual merit. "Unfair" is a hard argument to have, as individuals differ on what they consider to be "fair".

Please stick to the subject! If you can't say anything good about the man, please refrain from ridicule.
