Has anyone seen the movies that have been made by a Church out of Albany Ga.? They are so good. The first one was FlyWheel, the second one was Facing the Giants and the new one coming out is Fire Proof. Can't wait to see it. God is really using these movies!! sally

Well, they're good if you're a fan of bad acting, lousy writing, incompetent directing and a total lack of production values. Sorry, but the Sherwood Baptist productions are prime examples of why Christian filmmaking still has a LONG way to go....

When I first started watching the movies I thought the same thing.....but as the message was being presented, the Holy Spirit took over and I no longer saw those weaknesses.. I started seeing the strength in the Power of the Message, and how God could use it. Fire Proof I think will be considered more professional it seems after watching the trailer and since Kirk Cameron stars in it. Maybe "Christian filmmaking" will be one more step toward that long way to go....but you know God is in Control. Any thing is possible with Him. sally

Unfortunately, Sally, the message presented in a film like FACING THE GIANTS is not the most healthy one. It basically says "Is your life falling apart? Accept Christ and everything will be hunky dory fine". I don't know about you, but that is NOT how I have found life as a Christian to be. in fact, I've found the Christian life to be many times more trying than my life in the world. I think a lot of people who may have come to Christ through that film are going to experience a very rude awakening....

Tafkam, I am like you and I know that Christian life is not all "hunky dory fine". I don't expect it to be, or want it to be because I have learned that it is during the trials that I experience God's love the most. To me the movies speak of the "surrendered life" to Christ. When we surrender our lives to Him that is when life is lived at it's fullest. Putting Christ at the center of our lives is where we get our peace. Matthew 6:33

Other than that, he's done a couple really bad Left Behind movies and some made for tv movies. That's it. Why do people think his presence is going to raise the bar? Even though I think Kirk is really cute, the point I was trying to make was that the"project" was entended for local evangelism. It was GOD that had other plans. That is what is so.....exciting to me. Even though these movies are, of couse fiction, the message is of Truth. The Truth to enternal life. For GOOD NEWS such as that I don't care how professional the "messenagers' are......God again is in control of the seeds and how and where they grow. sally

I've been thinking that we need to start witnessing to Pacino, De Niro, Joe Pesci, Robert Duvall, Samuel L Jackson, Nicholas Cage, etc. just to get some high-quality actors into our films. Then again. we need to do that anyway.

I agree that everything turned out better than it should have, I was telling my wife when we were watching it the 1st time that I sure hope she is not able to have a baby, that was a little too much. I know God can do all these things, but it is not the norm for most Christians. The norm would have been for them to get over it, and adopt a child. But I did like the films, I thought they were well done, all films have things you can pick apart if you want to. It's a lot easier to enjoy a film when your not picking it apart. I just try to look past small things, now if it's something bigger, than I would not watch it again. Both of these films I can watch more than once and still enjoy them.

Some couples are blessed after trying for some time, but many are not. It just seamed to "perfect" I seen it a few times in the theater as well as home, I like watching good Christian Movies over a few times. I have hundred's of Good Christian movies, so I can re-watch them a year or two later and enjoy them all over again. There are many good Christian Movies coming out this year at the theater and to dvd , it's going to be great the next few months! I can't wait, I love going to the theater to see Christian Movies, Nothing better, LOL You can see them hear Coming Christian Movies

I do have them, but I have them on a special page for EndTime Movies End-Time Movies If you see any Christian movies that I don't have listed let me know. I'm trying to get my search working, Sucks, because I know very little about web sites.

I saw "Facing the Giants" and thought it was very good. I only wish I could somehow contact Sherwood Baptist to suggest some other ideas for movies. Personally, I think it is time for some new, fresh, innovative ideas for movies. So many movies are just old themes that have been recycled, over and over, and over again. I would love to create my own indie movie, but, no funds. As for secular movies, I do not see those anymore, too much violence, cursing, etc. C

Hi Diane, we saw Facing the Giants too, not knowing about Flywheel, we just have watched it and really like it. We have watched it several times......there is one part in it that will have you crying like a baby....lol[;)] My daughter has already previewed Fire Proof and she said it was the BEST movie she has ever seen, I am looking forward to seeing it. sally

I'll admit it bugs me to be so harsh on these movies, since I know the Kendrick brothers personally and they are both solid men of God. We've been so fortunate to see things like Christian music and Christian radio make marked improvements in quality and production value, but for some reason, visual mediums like TV and movies still seem to have that Grade Z shot-with-a-video-camera-and-the-help-of-a-few-friends look to it. I thin part of the problem with most Christian entertainment is that it is so agenda driven. And agenda driven entertainment is usually pretty bad, whether you agree with the agenda or not. I'm glad the Kendricks have been able to do what they set out to do, I just wish they would find some source of funding that would allow for a truly quality production to be made.....

tafkam, I had no problem with the 'quality' of Facing the Giants. In fact, I was so 'into' the movie (and have watched it dozens of times) that I didn't notice quality problems. I ordered FlyWheel for under $10.00 on Amazon, brand new. Diane, Unfortunately, many Christians seem content with accepting mediocrity in their Christian entertainment, be it through Christian singers who are clones of secular bands, cheesy preaching shows on all Christian TV channels, or movies made with substandard talent. For some reason, we seem to buy into this notion that, "since it's a Christian product, we must wholeheartedly support it, because the message is good". I do not subscribe to that idea. I've seen FLYWHEEL and FTG, although I will also freely admit I had to do so in parts, because they were so painful to watch I couldn't do it in one sitting. As for FIREPROOF, while the initial quality does seem t obe a step up from FTG (not that that is saying much) I think it'll take quite a bit more than a B grade actor from an 80's sitcom to bring in the crowds (or at least crowds outside the film's ready made audience). And yes, I know I sound harsh, but I'm hoping for the day Christians will raise the standard when it comes to the Tv and films we put out...

Excellence should be 'strived for' (God deserves our best) but not if it means watering down scripture, references to Jesus as the only way to salvation, etc. that might offend those of other cultures, etc. I think of Veggie Tales and their 'Touched by an Angel' type christianity ......... and I'd much rather have filming that isn't perfect versus half baked theology. We could compare these films to a mega church or tent revival. It's not the location, it's the message!

I didn't see FTG, but I just watched the Fireproof trailer and I agree that the technical production value seems fine to me - the quality of the video seems good and I'm sure the audio will be fine, too. I think what's more important than the technical things is the quality of the acting and the quality of the writing. Just from watching the trailer, it's pretty clear that Fireproof falls completely flat in that regard (to be fair, so do many secular movies). It's a good message, but does the story (particularly the supporting cast) have to be so completely contrived? Good art often has a level of subtlety or ambiguity, causing the viewer to think about the message. Hey tafkam, I agree some with what you are saying, It takes money to make films better, that is very clear. Not that all Higher cost films are made well, but the whole "making" of the film can step up with money. The problem is Christians don't have it. or I should say, not spending it on making films, we have many other Important areas to spend it as a church. But where I think you are wrong is not supporting christian movies because they are low budget, this is the ONLY way we will get better films. Christian film companies start out with little money and the only way they get more is working there way up. When Christians SUPPORT their film, they get more money and they use this on the next film. This is shown with the 3 films from Sherwood. If everyone did as you, we would not have anymore films at the theater, they would quit making them. I ask you to start supporting these films by going to them, then buying them on dvd. You will see them get better over time as more money and time are spent on them. It is sad, but money will make a difference. I'm not saying it should be this way, it just is. I try to get everyone to see the new Christian movies, and buy them. This is the best way for Christian films to get to where they should be, as you said with Christian Music. Give it a try tafkam, it will make a difference! [;)] They get better every year! I think many are doing a great job right now with what they have to work with. No they are not Disney, but they are good. [:)]
