I love you, Garsy, and you know it! Besides, I guess I'm used to your Aryn because it doesn't bug me. She's not in one of our practices and I don't have to chart it LOL.

Well Aryn really doesn't bug to many people, except of course her brothers!

I'm working on my list of names right now. I have a lot of favorites!

Blessings,

Garsy

Aryn was on my list of girl names for a few years. I saw "Aryn Lauder" on TV one time and thought it looked/sounded so classy. (I think she's Estee Lauder's daughter or granddaughter).

1. Our son is Isaac Michael. We loved the name Isaac. It's a family name as well so FIL lobbied hard for it, LOL. Michael is my husband's first name. When I look at my son, he looks exactly like an Isaac. I can't imagine him being anything else. We've gotten a lot of compliments on his name -- people say it sounds strong and masculine. My second choice for him was "Aidan". That was on my boy list for years and years . . . . but all of the sudden, it became hugely popular so now I don't really even care for it anymore.

Our daughter is Isabel Grace. I'm not one who normally likes popular names. I was always adament about not naming my children off the top 10 or 20 list. But alas, that was the name we liked! We like older, classic names. Plus -- my two great grandmothers are Belle and Grace. So my grandparents were tickled pink at the name we chose for her.

2. Hubby and I both like older, classic names. Biblical and non-biblical. I also like some Celtic names.

When we got married we made a deal. First name would be semi-normal (but not in top 20 names) and the middle name could have a family connection or be more unique. We also agreed that we had to agree on the first name but that he could pick male middle names (to honor family) and I could pick female middle names.

I have 4 boys. You can see who's favor that worked out in.

Evan Axel~Evan we liked and it's a Welsh version of John (my FIL). Axel is from dh's Norwegian great-grandfather.

Isaac Dean~we had the worst trouble with this name. Dh insisted on things like Paine or Harvey and I couldn't find anything I liked (and I like a lot of names) to satisfy him. Finally we agreed on Isaac within a month of the birth, only because dh could call him Ike or Zeke as a nickname. Isaac is not one of my favorite names but it's a very artistic name (Izak Perlman, Isaac Asmov, Isaac Bashevis-Singer) and I like the meaning (laughter). Dean is for my husband and his favorite grandfather (who he was named after).

Jude Sverre~Originally he was supposed to be Jude Allan or Caleb Sverre but dh insisted this was our last child so I let him have his favorite Norwegian name Sverre (Svfair), which means 'restless one.' I did get to pick the first name on this one though. Dh was happy to let me. He was not named after the Beatles song.

Luke Allan~Jude was not our last child. I was reading through the Social Security list and dh reacted positively to this name so we grabbed onto it. I remember always being positive about it but he always nixed it. He thinks it's because there was another little boy born at church with the same name but they moved and it took him 3 years to forget about it. Allan is a family name from dh's paternal side. It's his middle name, his father's middle name, the first name of his grandfather, and most of his male cousins. Dh broke with tradition by using other middle names for the other boys, but here he comes back around with a nod to his Dad.

That's my four boys. We always had an easier time picking out girls' names. We both liked Nina Angeline (Angeline for my grandmother), Auben (means 'the white light of dawn' in old french or refers to a song sung in the dawn) Elise, and Eve Patricia (Eva was my great grandmother and Patricia is my mother and paternal grandmother). We also had a ton of unmatched names we both liked for girls.

Names like Ammie bug me. Sorry, but according to the spelling rules, she is named AM-EE. Like Amway I know a little girl who is named Halley...I like the name Halley...only her parents pronounce it Hay-lee. Well, sorry, but a double consonant breaks the long vowel. These kids are gonna have trouble spelling for the rest of their lives! LOL

My grabdma's name is common (for her age) but spelled different, so she came up with a little rhyme for people to remember. To this day that's how I remember it. Her saying it...... "Mabel, as in labEL not as in tabLE"

Currently my favorite girl names are

Emma/Emmy
Ivy
Ida but only with the middle name of Grace - That was one of our choices when Aryn was born, but we decided not to go with family names. Too dangerous.
Rebekah
Abby
Aeryn - just another form of Aryn's name
Erin
Avery
Bailey
Katie
Chaya - means life in Hebrew
Chloe
Dani
Eden
Elise - but again it was one we wouldn't have used due to family connections.
Evie
Eliana
Luca
Grace - but that is a very common name around here so it is unlikely that I would actually use it.
Hannah
Heidi
Jade
Josie - I almost used this name to honor my older sister whom I never knew as she died before I was born.
Layan
Lily
Lyra
Meagan
Maya
Mia/Mya
Poppy
Rachel - I love the name but I do have bad associations with someone from my past so I likely wouldn't use it.
Ruby
Rylee
Selina
Saran - Gorgeous name from Africa meaning Joy - it is also Hindi meaning refuge or sanctuary.
Selah
Ziva
Zoe of course as well as Zoey and Zoie

Now for boys,

Aidan
Ari
Eli
Noah
Jack
Brayden
Benjamin (but I don't like Ben or Benji)
Damien
Douglas
Ian
Ethan (of course)
Ty (of course)
Nathanael
Amos
Gabe
Jade
Jeremiah

Blessings,

Garsy

I have a niece named that....and they say it weird, they say it with the Hebrew "sound" to it...kind of guttural.
I also have a friend who's daughter is "Kiah" (as in the last part of "Hezekiah")

with our last two boys, if either one had been a girl then we would have used the name Audra Lynn.

That's interesting, Jen. We have people mispronouncing our last name all the time, too, and we also use diesel fuel as a way of helping them remember how to pronounce our last name.

My daughter is Akeelah Nevaeh. We both saw a trailer for Akeelah and the Bee long before we got pregnant and at the same time said we liked that name for a girl. So we chose that when we found out we were having a girl. Nevaeh we picked after about 3 hours of going through the lists on a baby name website.

Our first son will most likely be Isaiah Christopher - Isaiah because it's both of ours favourite book of the Bible, and Christopher after Dh's brother who passed away.

There are tons of names that I like for babies that Dh doesn't like.

For the next girl I would love the name Zahra Nichelle, but Dh has nixed that. We both like the name Taccara but can't decide how to spell it (Tacara, Takara, Toccara). Eh. I'm hoping if I let him choose the spelling, I can get Nichelle as the middle name.

because I was "baby A" for the first two weeks of my life ( and grandmother still calls me that) I was determined to have names picked out long before due date. Being a twin and having twins I did not want to do sing song names Kelly Catelyn came about because my name starts with a C and husbands name starts with a K and we wanted to call her KC which we haven't and Catelyn is because my parents always called me Cate Kevin Gordon is because Gordon is husbands fathers name and Kevin just sounded good with it. always interesting to learn how people get their names.

William Marshall Mc__, II- named for his daddy, goes by his middle name most of the time. We did II instead of junior because we wanted his name to be a legacy, but not an expectation of being just like his daddy. In a way, he's actually the III. FIL is Billy Marshall Mc__.

I have a cousin named Luke. His father is a bit of a smart alec and goes around saying, "LUKE! I am your father!!!"

Boy, can I relate to that! DS2 is Luke Aubrey Mc__. Luke is DH's paternal grandma's maiden name and Aubrey is is maternal grandfather's first name. As soon as we found out he was a boy and would be Luke, DH started in with the Darth Vader impersonations to him. Of course, Marshall being five at the time loved it and picked it up too.

My baby girl is Kenna Rose Mc__. Kenna because all the girls in my family have names starting with K and Kenna was the only one in the baby dictionary that Will and I both liked. Rose, because I really like old-fashioned names and Kenna is most definitely not old-fashioned.

All our kids names are in the top 10 unfortunately. But we like classic names and that happens to be popular right now.

Emma Marion - we loved the name Emma. I was not impressed when Rachel on Friends had an Emma about 1 yr after our Emma was born - I knew it would zoom up the list. So far I think most of the Emmas came after ours. No others in her class yet anyway! Marion is for one of Nathan's aunts.

Sophia Grace - again, we loved the name Sophia. came up with it while watching a biography on Sophia Loren. Grace was the middle name of another one of Nathan's aunts.

Olivia Rae - again, we just loved the name Olivia. Rae is Nathan's mom made up middle name. She didn't have a middle name, so in high school she made one up for herself! It's not official or anything.

Jacob Nathaniel Glenn - Jacob we like. As well as the nicknames of Jack or Jake. Nathaniel is for my DH. Glenn is for my dad who died when I was 2. Jacob's name is really 3 generational as Nathan's grandpa's name was Jacob. We only thought of that after though.

We like gender obvious names - that was a huge factor in our decision.

Names we considered....

Emma would've been Brendan Nathaniel. Then my cousin had a Brendan so....
Sophia would've been Evan Nathaniel.
Olivia would've been Evan Nathaniel.

Then I heard of some girls being names Evan, so it got nixed from the list.

Jacob would've been Ava Susanne. Ava we liked and Susanna was my Grandma's name.

Timothy John (Timmy) & Robert James (Jimmy). I really like the names we picked for three reasons. I like Bible names, they are family names and my boys can have a choice in what they want to be called....Tim, Timothy, Timmy, John or James, Jim, Rob, Bob, Robert, Robby, Bobby, JimBob. Lots to choose from.

DD is Naomi Joy. She is named after Ruth's MIL, of course and she definitely brings us much joy.
If this next one is a girl we are going to have trouble because I want another Biblical name but DH doesn't like any of the other female names in the Bible.
There are a ton of boys names I like in the Bible (Luke is my favorite) but the only name we both agree on is Ethan. I like the name but I don't like the fact that it's in the top 5 of most popular. Still, if it's a boy he will probably be Ethan Thomas.

We have:
Roberta Ilene (although people keep trying to 'correct' it to Eileen) -- seh was named after my mother (Roberta) and dh's grandmother (Ilene)
Jacob Noah -- purely Biblical based
Joseph Roy -- family name again (my great-grandfather Joseph, and dh's dad, Roy)
Thomas James and Caleb Nicholas -- both Biblical based as well

Had Caleb turned out to be a she instead of a he, the name would have been Naomi Ruth.

As for 'favourite' names ... don't really have any. Names for me tend to depend on the person. (ie. I know two girls Rebekah ... the name seems to 'fit' the one more than the other ... don't know if that makes sense to anyone, but that's the only way I can think to phrase it)

ETA: My kids use the 'full' version of their names (ie. Jacob instead of Jake) ... always have. There is one person who insists on calling Jacob "Jake" and he gets quite irate about it "My name is JACOB". Someone tried calling Joseph "Joey" on day, and Ilene corrected them saying "My brother is NOT a baby kangaroo!" We figure that as the kids get older, they can decide whether to use their full name or switch to a shortened version.

Yeah, that's one thing that's nice about those kind of names. I don't like any shortened version of my name, so I've always corrected people when they call me Chris, Tina or Christy.

LOL...Mine used to say the same thing....then one day a couple years ago he decided Jake was a "bog boy" name, so he told us from that day on that he was Jake. I have no clue where he came up with that reasoning...lol

We have:

Kaylee Elizabeth (called Kaylee) - the Lee part after my great grandmother (since we didn'y like just plain Lee ;o), and Elizabeth because it flowed nicely

Lana Brooks (called Lana) - with a long A like Dana becuase we liked it (LOL) and Brooks for my great grandmother...she was Ashton Brooks (I had read North and South at the time) until a day after she was born

Rob Garrett (called Garrett) - just Rob 'cause his daddy is just Rob on his birth certificate, and Garrett after my great grandfather.

I was one of 50 million Christy's (maybe not 50 million, but you get the point ;o), so I like that they have somewhat unusual names. Kaylee and Garrett don't have any in their age bracket (14 and 9), but there are some younger ones, and we've never heard of another Lana.

My eldest brother is a Garrett, but he's in his late 30's. It is definitely not a very common name. My mother claims she picked his name off a semi truck trailer that they passed on the way to the hospital.

I volunteer a lot at my kid's school and I do a lot for the kindergarten classes. Last year just in kindergarten alone we had the following K names or names with the beginning sound of K:
Kylynn
Kaitlyn
Cailey
Kathleen
Kynsey
Chloe (2 actually)
Carter
Conner
Caleb
Cooper
Kayla
Kaylynn
Catherine
Christopher
Camron
and Kira.

That's nearly one fourth of the entire grade level and they all start with the same sound! Quite a tongue twister if you try to read through the list real fast! Thankfully not all of those children were in the same classroom!

However, last year when my youngest ds was in third grade, one of the third grade teachers ended up with ALL three Madison's in that year AND she also had the only Madeline. Another third grade teacher ended up with all 3 Olivia's in that grade too. Nicholas or any variation of that name seems really popular in my son's grade as well. In fourth grade, last year, the one teacher got both Jordan's - one boy and one girl. One would think that a school would try to split those common names up a little bit better.

Blessings,

Garsy

Our first son's name is Seth Michael. My husband insisted Seth be his first or middle name, but I also wanted our first son to have a part of his dad's name (Michael Paul). So we compromised. My grandfather loves that its a biblical name, because we don't have many Bible names in our family.

Our second son's name is Aidan John. We both fell in love with the name Aidan and the John is a namesake for my dad. I wanted both boys to carry family names, but also have their own name to pass on as well.

If we had a daughter, we were gonna name her Crystal Marie after both of our mothers, but we were going to change the spelling a little for her first name. I know a lot of people don't like that, but I was going to spell it Krystle.

If we ever have another boy, we're going to include my husband's grandfather's name, James. His grandfather passed away last year, and his son who was carrying his name passed away the year before in a car accident. So we both have agreed on that point.

Other names I like for boys are...
Joel
Levi
Lewis
Lucas
Jameson
Caleb
just to name a few.

Another name I like for a girl, that we heard on a movie was Aurelia. We both liked that name too. Its a Latin name and means "golden". Don't think we'll ever get the chance to use it though.

My favorites are (girls)..Samantha, Jesseka (my apologies to all those who dislike creative spellings) Christiana, Julia, Emily (although it got way too popular), Katherine, Ekaterina (Russian form of Catherine), Alexandra (because of the book Alex the life of child), Gabriella, Isabella, Arielle, Astaire (ethiopian form of Esther) any other variation of the Christy names...Christy, Krista, Kirsten, etc.. any of those

For middle names I like Nicole, Renee, Faith, Grace, Joy, etc.
and also Gabrielle

After this thread started, I got thinking that Lacey and Jewel would both be pretty names.

I think the name Serenity Robyn would be pretty, but, like I said in the other thread, Serenity is the brand name of an adult diaper.

When I saw Ryanne's name (Mrs. Wifey), I thought it was very pretty, though I hadn't heard it before.

and many more....

Boys..

Joel, Jonathon, Jordan, Ethan, Christopher

and also manly names like Hunter, Grant, etc.

I hadn't thought about this in so long, that I've kid of forgotten some of my favorite boys names.

I know this sound weird, but at times I thought Highland or Montgomery would be cool names (part of my heritage is scots).

I haven't seen my sons names for anyone yet. manybe I just didn't see it.

Josiah.
he is my 3 year old. i wanted that name since i was about 17. i liked it when i read about king josiah in the bible. he had a heart like david and served God and got judah back on the right track with God.

Jeremiah.
my husband wanted that name. the prophet jeremiah served God when it wasn't popular. he spoke God's word about repentance and forgiveness.

oh yeah, "j" is on purpose. my husband wants to name all of our kids starting with the letter "j". I am not sure if i am a fan of that.
