ORIGINAL: al4jc March7...do you know where this trainer attends church? If so, maybe you or your husband could talk to his pastor and find out what his church believes. Or maybe there is someone else he has mentored that you both trust that you could talk to. Just a thought... Al4jc -- Thanks for your insightful wisdom. I appreciate your caring suggestions. Many thanks... We do know his church, actually, and, unfortunately, it's imploding at the moment and in the process of being taken over by the mega-church of our general area. The pastor has gone already, which is sad to this trainer-fellow, who respected the pastor a great deal. (So, we've invited him to our church.) There are a handful of teen guys in this group, and we know one of the families (from our church), so we talk with them. Our son knows one other of the guys from our Christian high school. Prior to this group, which he's been developing for two-three years, all the other teens this fellow has mentored over the years have been foster children. He seems sincere, but he seems to let his enthusiasm for God's work get in the way of waiting on God such that he ends up saying strange-sounding self-bent things that don't seem very rooted in scripture. We're also not sure yet how submissive he is to authority, like the authority of a local church, for example, as he seems to be a kind of maverick...has this ministry on his own. So, though he could be very sincere, all these things seem like either signs of simple immaturity or a particular plan. Simple immaturity that's teachable before the Lord, that we don't mind, but a particular plan in the mind of spiritual maverick is uncomfortable to us. We've had some good chats and prayers with our son already, too, who though excited about the computer programming stuff brought the spiritual discomfort to our attention. Sooo.... THANKS so much for your insight, al4jc, and thanks to everyone for their prayers. To God be the glory. Amen.
