I think I'm the laundry slouch of the group! We do laundry when one of us runs out of clothes (usually DH runs out first). We don't sort, other than to pull out anything red that might still bleed (maybe 1-2 shirts between the 2 of us). We do warm wash, cold rinse. I've used Tide Free for years and years (allergies), but we have a small supply of soap nuts that I use now, and I'll probably switch to either Arm & Hammer chemical free, or Charlie's Soap when I need to since Tide Free is getting really hard to find. I also have a bottle of Bam! that I spray on any stains- it hasn't failed me yet! Everything goes right from the washer to the dryer, and we have a bad habit of letting clothes sit in the dryer when they finish. If we're in a mood to fold, clothes go on the bed to get sorted, folded, and put away. If we aren't in a mood to fold, clothes go on the couch in our bedroom, where we pick through them until the pile runs out and we have to do laundry again. I don't use dryer sheets or fabric softener (allergies again), and I don't believe in ironing. I didn't even own an iron until I started doing more sewing and needed one to press out quilt squares. In our defense, its just DH and I in the house. I work full time, and he's in school/work study, so when we're home folding laundry is not high on our list of things to do.

Sounds alot like my laundry habits. We very rarely fold anything.

Whew! Glad I"m not the only one! I'd prefer that things got folded more often- sometimes I pull all of my clothes off of the pile and fold them, but DH usually leaves his.

Granted, we don't have any kids or a lot of REALLY dirty clothes, but it does leave things clean. When we get the clothes out, they don't smell like anything. When we have more...um...organic messes (we have cats), we throw a small scoop of detergent in with the soap nuts. Probably the biggest issue is finding the little pouch that the nuts go in after the load of laundry is finished- it tends to hide or get wrapped up in clothes.

That sounds wonderful! Can you tell us more about it? And do you use softener too? I always use softener, can't seem to get away from it.

We've never used fabric softener (allergies), so I can't compare with and without that. I do know that it seems to get our clothes as clean as Tide Free, but without any sort of chemical-y smell left over. Dh's and my clothes don't really get overly dirty though. If we have any more...organic...messes (we have cats), we'll throw a small scoop of Tide Free in with the soap nuts- I can't tell you how well it would work on kids clothes or things that are more heavily stained. Um...what else do you want to know? I need to buy some more, but haven't been able to order them and we still have Tide Free that we're using up. The soap nuts lasted much longer than I expected- I'd say whatever I put into the washing bag lasted through at least 3-5 loads of laundry.

I love doing laundry (yes, I am serious) I like how it puts that fresh linen smell in my house. I am particular on how things are folded, so I never ask for help LoL. I never let the loads sit with out folding them. I also love to iron, I iron most clothes and table linens. My Mom also ironed everything. I loved that as a child and I do it now. It doesn't take much time at all.

How do you know how many to use? Per reading the website it looks like the hotter the water the more 'stuff' gets taken off. And I assume if the load isn't as dirty you use less? Also, do you put any additives in with it? Like bleach, or baking soda? And what about all those scents they have, does it bother you? Can you get them unscented?

We just throw about 3 or 4 nuts into the little bag- I'm not sure more nuts necessarily makes for cleaner laundry, and we generally do big loads. We do warm wash, cold rinse. We put the baggie back through the laundry until the nuts start to feel dried out (they feel sort of oily to start with). We still don't use any additives- I never have used anything but straight detergent. I don't use the scents- what they are is bottles of essential oil where you can put a few drops on the bag. You can order just the soap nuts.

we don't have any kids or a lot of REALLY dirty clothes Nor me! Thanks for the review. I'll have to try some! These are what I've been using (they were free!) and seem to have done a pretty good job. They're coming to the end of their life now though I think so I'm thinking what to use next. For drying, I recently bought things like this (mine were cheaper!). They seem to have cut down on the static (when I've remembered to use them) and my clothes don't feel harsh.

Hmm, those dryer balls I've seen before. I've wanted to try something like that out. I'm wanting to try the soap nuts (I can't help but think of food everytime I say that or think of that) and the true test would be on a diaper load. Hmmm. I'm wanting to give it a shot. I might get a sample pack and wait until baby makes his 'mark' on some diapers. Heh heh heh.

Yep, that's what I thought! Was the cheapest that I found with free delivery. I will confess though that I could have probably searched more ~ I get very fed up with shopping, be it online or in shops!

That was a quick delivery - 2 days for second class! I'd be interested to hear how you get on with them with other loads of washing.
