Manda, I made pickled onions today and so my house stinks of onions, vinegar (malt) and spices. I've also got spillage on a couple of towels ~ all of which I intend to wash tomorrow. Will be interesting to see how they smell afterwards!
And yep, was pretty quick for 2nd class!

Laundry. The bane of my existence. Of course, with 7 people in this house, we have a lot of it. Yippe-skippee. 
I used to have a hard time keeping it all washed, but now Brian's room is what used to be the laundry and toy room...so now it's the laundry and Brian room. I can't keep a heap of clothes on the floor because he can't get around the room if I do.
So...my current method is...everything goes together except things that need treating. There is a small basket for those next to the washer and I do them when there's a bunch. I do at least a load a day right now, and Noah retrieves the upstairs laundry (my room and his) a couple times a week for me.
I wash bedding when it needs to be washed and not a moment before. Sometimes that means the same bedding is washed three times in a week (kids peeing beds...  ) and sometimes that means I'll go a month (my bed pre-baby spitup). Brian's bedding gets washed twice a week because he gets dead skin everywhere. 
I use many different kinds of detergent...Gain and Arm & Hammer being the current favorites. Dollar General carries a 5 gallon thing of Sun (cheap Oxyclean) that I use in every load and to scrub on stains. It gets that orange tiny baby poop out. WOOHOO! Dryer sheets...usually Bounce with a yummy scent.
I dry everything. No desire to hang stuff outside. I hate that crunchy feeling, and so does Brian, so we're good.  Electricity is cheaper at night, so we try to dry most loads then.
Now folding...ugh. I have a laundry couch. All clean laundry gets dumped on the couch. And stays there forever. LOL At least we know where to find the clean clothes, right? No, seriously, I do take care of it from there, but I don't have to like it.
A relatively new method for me is that I sort the clothes by person first. Everyone has a pile and there is a towel/washcloth pile too. Noah and Nick take their piles and put them away themselves. They aren't folded. And I don't care. Levi and Esther's clothes (Brian's too right now) stay downstairs and I put them away fairly often. My clothes and Hannah's end up on top of our dressers. Neatly. Kind of. Sometimes I find a few spare minutes and get them put away. More often, we just get clothes from the pile on top.
Iron? I have never in life owned an iron. Isn't that what the "fluff" cycle on the drier is for? 
What did I forget? Oh...I wash most things on warm. Sheets on hot.
When Brian was working, I would wash his yucky clothes (oil, grease, chainsaw-smelling, etc.) separate from all the other stuff, and then run an empty load with just hot, hot water and soap through before I did more.

Glad we aren't the only ones who have a laundry couch! Our excuse for it is that the cats like to sleep on the clothes.
How are the soap nuts working out?

I detest doing laundry. I usually have one big laundry day a week and then the next day is finish up day.
I do normally sort like this: Socks, underware, white t-shirts and PJ's (with a family of 6 this is normally a big load by it self), Light and brights (after any fading potential has passed for a bright red or purple, usually 1 load during the winter and 2 during the summer), darks and heavy hoodies (usually 2 full loads a week especially in the winter, less in the summer) Jeans (always washed in cold water and at least a 2 loads a week during the Fall and Winter), Towels and bedding (usually 2 or more loads a week year round). About 6 - 8 loads a week sounds about right. Everything gets washed with warm water EXCEPT the jeans. We have a hard enough time finding jeans that fit a couple of our kids - I don't need them shrinking! I only use Purex as it's the ONLY detergent that I can afford to buy that DOESN'T irritate my youngest ds's allergies. I've tried the Tide and Cheer free stuff - only to have a little boy with itchy skin for days on end. No fabric softener here either. I use tennis balls - well actually two smaller than average tennis balls that I bought in the pet store. They were meant to be toys for smaller breed dogs and my dog showed no interest so I started tossing them in the dryer.
I would LOVE to hang out some of our laundry, but I don't have a clothes line outside yet. Right now is not a good time to hang much of anything outside around here with the farmers harvesting and kicking up all the dust.
I TRY to fold when it comes out of the dryer and thankfully I have a couple of great helpers most of the time. I've learned not to get overly picky about how things are folded since I know it won't last long in their dresser drawers anyway. Things do sit in baskets around here for a long time tho. I'm trying to get better at that.
The worst tho is when your kids start getting as big as you and your husband and you can't quite figure out if a pair of jeans belongs to your eldest ds, or husband or of a pair of underwear is yours or your daughters.
And I HATE socks. Hate them. Hate mating them, hate figuring out what belongs to who, hate finding workable storage solutions, hate everything about socks except wearing them. I have a basket full of socks waiting for me to mate and I'm putting it off as long as possible.

As for socks: I buy each person all the same sock and different from each other. DS and DD1 wear basically the same style but their sizes are different enough that you can tell them apart. Last time around the writing was different colors. I buy 10-12 pair for each person so they only have to dump all the soscks in their drawer if they want and can pick any two.
I also make each person fold/put away their own.. When I get a basket or two of clean laundry I bring them to the LR and sort them into a basket for each person. We take turns with towels and sheets. Once you get them put away it's the next person's turn.

Laundry is pretty standard week in week out here.
I wash clothes on Saturday/Sunday which includes hand washing and my work clothes; linen on Sunday/Monday which is towels from both bathrooms and sheets from all beds; and clothes, excluding hand washing and my work clothes on Tuesday/Wednesday.
Right now I have to wash dh's and my bedding first thing in the morning and make sure it is hung up before heading out to work as we only have one set of queen sized sheets.
Sheets are my next big purchase for linens, but I'm trying really hard just to make do for another four months (I know that sounds like forever) as that is when dh's truck will be paid off and I will have some extra money to work with to buy some really good quality stuff which I hope will last several years.
