Mods, I know this could probably get moved to home and garden, but I thought, in light of the other thread, we needed a thread that was about something common to just about every woman, so I ask if this could please stay here? Thanks in advance.

How do you do your laundry ladies? I divide between darks, lights, whites, brights, mediums, and dark-on-whites..little ocd, I know.[8D]


Then I'm very picky about how I fold towels..bath towels are in thirds longways, and then in thirds again. Hand and dish towels are in thirds long ways, and then in half. Washcloths and dishcloths are in fourths.

For clothes, everything goes on hangars except underthings, slips, scarves, gloves, hats, etc. and sweaters, and each of those things has their own basket.

I iron just about everything except my jeans.

And I love to do laundry.

Oh, and I use arm and hammer baking soda laundry detergent (sensitive skin), and I also found a great bleach that's specifically made to be gentler on clothes. It's still by clorox, but is thicker in texture, and of course, I only bleach whites. I would like to hang clothes out to dry, but we have no clothesline. Oh yeah, that reminds, about half my stuff never even sees the inside of a dryer. Instead it hangs on a hangar in an open space until it is dry. I'm very picky about what sees the inside of a dryer.

I forgot to say too that I keep rough and delicate fabrics separate, and wash everything on the gentle cycle no matter what.

I do laundry once a week, though it usually takes me two days to get it all folded and put away.

These days, I separate whites from colors, that's usually it. I don't have much really delicate stuff, and I discovered that most "dry clean only" stuff does just fine in a gentle cold water cycle and hung to dry. Whatever detergent is on sale, bleach when necessary.

I do not love laundry. [8D]

I only separate clothes from towels and whites from everything else. I wash all my jeans, pants and shirts and baby clothes together unless it's a colour that is new and hasn't been washed before, until I know it doesn't run.

I wash bath towels separate from dish towels and cloths. I use bleach for all towels.

I use the dryer for everything (except my new bra) because my clothesline is too far away, and I'm too scattered to remember to get my clothes and bring them back in (this is especially true if it's supposed to rain) and I end up putting them in the dryer anyway because they're almost always still damp. Oh, and the wrinkles don't get out either.

I only iron if I'm going to a job interview or something [8D]

I used to love to do laundry....when I was single! Now it's just overwhelming.

How I do laundry: I watch it pile up, get overwhelmed, and then spend a whole day doing it...trying to change that though [8D]

Seriously, I seperate laundry into whites/towels, jeans, darks/lights, and Hunter's clothes. I don't always do an entire load of Hunter's clothes separately, but usually there is enough to do one. Darks and lights I do together, unless there is something red that is being washed. I do my dress clothes and hubby's khakis together on gentle cycle just to be safe.

I am very particular about how I fold things and I have had to learn to relax when my mother or MIL folds stuff. I fold my things much like you do Jewels and the decorative line on the towel must show when I fold...sick I know[&:].

I hang up our nice shirts, pants, jeans, and skirts. Everything else goes in dresser drawers. I am very picky about my closet as well and how clothes are arranged. But, overall laundry isn't bad if I just kept up with it and took the time to put stuff away, not in baskets. Maybe today I will focus on laundry[:)]

I wash darks on monday, colors on tuesday and whites on wednesday. Diapers whenever needed, lately it's been about every four days. Tuesday is my biggest day, laundry-wise, as we seem to have the most laundry that day. Bedsheets get changed on the day I'm washing that type of clothing, so they get changed roughly once a week.

I love to do laundry.

If the day is fine, I will hang it all. I love the way it smells and it's so nice and crisp. That helps with ironing. I usually do ironing on thursday, friday or saturday, it just depends on when I can get it done. But I do it once a week, because if I don't, it all piles up and then I'm spending hours doing it. I can't stand that long now. So if I do it once a week it takes me maybe 30 mins to do it.

I use a natural detergent and natural brightener from shaklee. It does get the clothes cleaner, I can use less and the smell doesn't bother me. I grew up with my mom using the stuff, so I am a bit intolerant to detergent odors. When someone sends us clothes, I can't stand the perfume. It really does bother me. And even though they are clean, I wash them anyway. Sometimes the perfume is still there.

That's how I do laundry.

I don't, btw, iron underwear, my husbands handkerchiefs, sheets or towels. Why would you iron the stuff you are going to sleep, sit, wipe or snot in/on?

Oh I forgot to mention I don't iron, unless I have to. Most stuff that needs to be hung up, gets hung up directly out of the dryer. I am not beyond pressing something if it is wrinkly, but most times items we wear are fine. We just may not have crease down the sleeve of our shirt.

I guess I'm not so organized with laundry. When DH gets home and I wash his uniform since they see fit to only give him one shirt so I just wash everything but towels together.

I do laundry on Mondays and Fridays. It's one task I don't mind doing at all (which is a big change, because for years I hated doing laundry).

I separate into darks, lights, and whites (undies and socks). And towels, of course. I only use dryer sheets in the winter sometimes (when the static is bad), otherwise I don't use fab softener, I don't like the dinginess it leaves in clothes.

I fold/hang up directly from the dryer, so I don't usually have to iron anything, except maybe one or two of hubby's button-down shirts. I only iron on an as-needed basis.

That is what I do too. And sometimes I will wash a load of jeans on their own if we have recently bought new ones because the dark washed jeans I like WILL bleed.

Right now I just wash whenever, but I need a laundry schedule. I had one for awhile but fell off the wagon and now our day-to-day schedule is even different so I need to find something new.

I hang up all our nice shirts as soon as the dryer goes off, so they rarely need ironing. All of our button down style shirts go to the dry cleaner, although Micah did offer me a $1 each if I will iron them at home[:D]

I do laundry when we're about to run out of something. [8D] Usually on a Sunday.

My loads are separated as follows:
Towels
Sheets
Whites/really light stuff
Tops
Bottoms

I can't stand the idea of washing dark underwear and boxers with my shirts. Strange, I know, but that's me.

I hate doing laundry because it seriously makes my back ache.

I use an all natural detergent and don't use softener or dryer sheets because I don't want the chemicals on me. It's too windy here to have a clothesline, so everything goes in the dryer.

Everything gets folded. We have these thingies in the closets that let me put the stuff away folded instead of hanging them. I only iron when absolutely necessary. My husband irons his own clothes, and sometimes irons mine. [8D]

It depends on how big the loads will be and how new the darks are (read: if I am sure of their colorfastness.)

And dh is responsible for his own ironing. We both make a point to buy as much wash and wear clothing as possible and I hang directly from the dryer to prevent as much ironing as possible.

I do laundry every Monday, and it's been a good day when it's washed, dried, ironed, and put away by that evening. I spend 1 whole day on it because I can't stand to have baskets lying around. I fold everything and put it in the right piles, and the kids come and put it away. I can't imagine doing that every day. I separate it into dress clothes, lights, darks, whites, towels and sheets. I only iron DH's dress clothes and church clothes. Now that the kids are in school this year, I will probably have to touch up their uniforms.

One of the best purchases we ever made was a front-load washer (and dryer). You use less soap, can wash HUGE loads, and it really does clean a ton better than my whirlpool regular one ever did.

We do laundry every single day. Our baby is in cloth diapers so my husband takes the diaper pail and anything that is dirty of baby's and it gets washed in the morning, thrown in the dryer and I fold it and put it away.

We use Seventh Generation detergent (no petroleum, no colors, no dyes). Not just because of baby. We have been using that for years. The diaper load gets no dryer sheets as they hash the absorbency of cloth diapers so that's a no.

I used to be more concerned about dividing loads. Now it's basically "Lights" vs. "Darks", and then "Reds". I don't mess with the reds, and by reds that means oranges and purples, too. I tend to wash it all in cold water (except the diaper load is in hot water - but DH does that daily chore - bless his heart.) He also prefers to iron his own clothes when necessary.

EVERYTHING goes into the dryer here except for bras. EVERYTHING. If you're a shrinky piece of clothing you are too high-maintenance for me. My husband does have some dry-clean only work clothes, but I'm not really counting those in this diatribe of laundry.

Things need to be easy because half the time I have a 5-month-old baby in my arms as I am moving laundry around so I'm not looking for any extra steps.

I absolutely abhor putting the laundry away. Hate-hate-hate putting it away. I do it, but that is one of my all-time least favorite chores because we both have waaaaay too many clothes and not enough space for them so I have to be creative and/or cramming.

Because I always put it off until I have a giant mountain I separate everything into like colours usually (between Mary and I we have two full loads of pink!). I do pinks, green/blue, two of darks, white, socks and underwear, bath towels, and kitchen towels. At least that is usually how it ends up. I wash it all in cold and when I do a load every day like I aspire to (...like never) I don't bother sorting it, usually just whatever is in the hamper goes in.

I feel like the laundry slacker compared to some of you ladies!!

I do all laundry on Fridays. I only separate into three groups - towels and sheets, white/light clothes, dark/color clothes. Dark/colors are washed on a cold/cold setting and the other two groups are washed on a warm/cold setting. I always use the heavy cycle - I've never even tried experimenting with other cycles on my washer [sm=icon_smile_blush.gif]

Oh, and diapers are washed separately - usually every two or three days - and hung on the line to dry.

I just use regular detergent and nothing else. For the dryer we use dryer balls because I don't like the chemicals in dryer sheets. I never iron unless dh pulls out a shirt Sunday morning and it's *really* wrinkly. I try to hang his dress shirts immediately after drying so that ironing isn't necessary. That, and I buy clothes that are wrinkle resistant.

I don't mind laundry, but I do dislike folding and putting away because it takes f o r e v e r, and I always end up putting it off until it's time to go to bed. At that point I don't feel like folding clothes! So they all end up dumped on the floor so that the bed is clear, and don't get folded until sometime the next day.

Whites, colors, free&clear, handwash only. My shirts and my littlest's clothes and bedding get washed in the free & clear detergent. Everything else is either white or colored and gets washed with cheapo detergent and cheapo bleach if it's white. Everything gets washed on warm and dried on warm whether the directions say so or not. Except the handwash stuff, which I only have a few skirts and scarfs that need to be handwashed.

When I was single and didn't have enough whites for a load, I separated my laundry by "cold delicate" and "hot regular".

Why do you wash on warm, Christina?

We wash everything on cold, except diapers(hot) and whites(warm, although sometimes I wash them on cold).

Doesn't it get the stains out better? Robert's and Jimmy's clothes get super dirty.

I wash everything on cold, used Tide or Cheer laundry detergent, and use Arm and Hammer dryer sheets. I keep remember stuff...

I'm to cheap to wash on warm, and I don't find it really makes much difference with stains. But I do spray everything with Shout! before it gets washed. Although, as I was spraying Gabby's clothes down yesterday I was thinking that it probably contradicts my use of all natural laundry detergent[8|]

I wash most things on warm, and towels on hot.

I feel they get cleaner. Whether that is perception or reality, I don't know!

There are some natural stain removers. I've used Ecover's before and it's decent.

I wash darks in cold, lights and whites in hot, everything else on medium.

I also tried some Oxy detergent a while back, and it got the clothes really clean, but it's a lot of $ for a small bucket.

I never knew, until this thread that so many people separated towels from their other stuff. I always just threw towels in with whatever color group they matched, although we have mostly white towels, so they often make up enough for a load of their own.

Ah, that makes sense.

My mom will be so thrilled[8|] that I have now found another sub-category. My laundry pickiness drives her nuts sometimes.

She divides lights and darks and delicates, and that is IT, and she washes everything on warm, and puts just about everything in the dryer.

LOL! I say if you are washing/folding/putting away then go ahead and be picky. I wouldn't mind at all if you wanted to be picky in my house, but I don't have the time... especially since laundry is my least favorite chore.
