Just general discussions about the RNC convention.

Speaking of which, Fox News is reporting that McCain is considering post-poning the event should Hurricane Gustav hit the Gulf States. He has concerns that the GOP would look bad if they are in St Paul celebrating while New Orleans is under an evac order.

Realisticly, not much will be achieved by postponing the event.

Since the seas will stop their rise when he is elected I wonder why the Messiah doesn't turn it away from the Big Sleazy?

It would probably benefit the GOP to postpone it, as it would extend the "excitement" of the convention to a date that's closer to the election. People are so fickle, that by November, everyone's already forgotten what happened in august anyway.

Although, on the other hand, it could work against them if Obama capitalizes on the momentum of the DNC convention, and pushes forward into next week without the GOP convention there to act as a reubuttal.

Because he wants to prove that Bush hates the people of New Orleans.
Why does Bush dislike the Gulf Coast peoles anyway? When will he stop creating these hurricanes to destroy these folks?

Hahah, funny, cog :)

Sometimes if I break something or see some natural disaster I will tell my wife, "Dang that George Bush, why would he do this to us?" Silly Bush Derangement Syndrome people.

Anyhow, I think it would be wise to postpone the RNC if Gustav indeed is going to make landfall in a populated area. If the RNC is going on and Gustav hits New Orleans, all we will see is the messiah and his lackies posing for photo-ops while laying a few sandbags down in the rain, trying to trick people into thinking that they care and that the Republicans are doing nothing.

I watched most of the evening DNC coverage, but I'll not even give the RNC a blink. 8 is ENOUGH.

How about canceling it altogether? I'm serious. First of all, they already have their nominee. Secondly, they know they can't top the Democratic Convention, at least as far as sheer spectacle. Third, they can highlight their fiscal conservatism. To me and a lot of voters, it would be a sharp contrast to the Democrats who ate, drank and partied for a week, only to do what they could have done with a press release. One guy chose to shine a light on himself for a week, while the other chose to shine a light on the country instead. It would be a great way for the haters to get over Obama getting all that love in Denver.

...They can't cancel it. There are party procedures. Couldn't tell if that was serious or not. And who said they can't compare to the spectacle of the DNC? Did you mean the debacle of the DNC? Their whole convention was one strategic misstep and miscalculation after another (the Bill & Hillary show reunion!) followed by a brilliant strategic move by the Republicans today. Kinda sad actually.

Again, what momentum? But I was an event planner when Katrina hit. I was planning a conference that following weekend for 400 people in Orlando. We had a Mardi Gras theme, can you believe that!?!? We really debated whether it was appropriate to go forward so I know the RNC is kinda in a pickle wondering what to do, not really knowing what Gustave will do. You don't want to be grossly insensitive partying in the middle of catastrophe - and you don't want to lose all that valuable media coverage to a natural disaster. I think they should push it back a few days probably.

it isn't being postponed. the only thing that would change is if the hurricane does hit Bush wouldn't be there monday and maybe not at all. President Bush would need to be doing his presidential duties about the hurricane. Arnold will not be there if california doesn't pass a budget bill.
it wouldn't make any sense to change the date.
why people live under sea level and in a swamp land is beyond me!

I heard they were going to shorten the convention.

Good.

The most exciting thing so far is the possibility of the hurricane Gustav putting off the beginning of the RNC Convention.

The winds are presently down to 115 MPH which is just an afternoon breeze here in Oklahoma; so maybe it will not interfere with the greatest show on earth.

Go Go Gov. Palin; a Spirit filled, tongue talking, gun totin', moose huntin', pro-life conservative.

Thanks

You now know that Mcain and Palin are in Mississippi at the headquarters of FEMA showboating, right?

This won't be a missed opportunity for either party to criticize and demean each other.

Just happens that Mcain got there first.

I find it utterly stupid to pretend that they care what is happening. i find it appalling that a disaster such as this is being used as a political agenda.

Actually, this might end up being good for McCain and republicans in general.

Bush isn't going to speak at all, now, and Republican senators battling in their home states have been wary of attending the convention for fear of being tied to, well, Bush and other republicans!

So I suspect they'll cut it to two days focusing mainly on MCCain, people close to him, and his own campaign, as oppossed to Bush and republicans as a whole.

McCain will play this politically for every cent it's worth, including not only photo ops, but the opportunity to distance himself from his party and Bush (which he needs desperately right now). I suspect what remains of the convention will be hurricaine themed, which is all the more convenient as it allows the past to be forgotten.

Well let me tell you that it is refreshing to see all the compassion on this board

With millions of people being displaced from their homes not knowing whether or not they will have a home to return to, wondering whether the levies will hold in LA this time, the possibility of untold numbers of death, it's really nice to see that all everyone is concerned about is
A-McCain is just a heartless pig because he went to Mississippi
B-Hurry, Bush won't be able to speak at the convention
C-Golly, do you think this will interrupt the convention

I'm really starting to get tired of all this from a board that is supposedly Christian.

May God help us all!
