ORIGINAL: HisLamb26 and lets not forget that not only are the females trained to be nothing more than obedient lap dogs....in the hands of the wrong type of so called "man"...these kind of teachings can turn downright tyrannical. I have a friend (an older woman) whose husband had the gall to tell her she should call him "Lord" like Sarah did Abraham. Yeah - I have seen that. I have also seen male congregants being the obedient lap dogs of the congregational leadership. I am not sure which is worse - having a few dozen abusive husbands/fathers each with their own little fiefdom going on or a senior pastor with a hundred husbands as his lap dogs, each with a family full of slaves. Bottom line: it is all wrong. It is all sin.

I wonder if eventually some of these groups will form their own communes/compounds, so that they can self-govern as a theocracy. A theocracy is what many of them want, complete with re-instituting OT law.

ORIGINAL: landabee South Carolina..... Yes, whatever happened with that? Was it related to Y2K? Or has it just fizzled out? Or is it still happening, under the radar? LOL, after another generation the Duggars could form their own town. But that's Arkansas, right? As you can imagine, the patrio-centrics have had quite a response to the Palin nomination. Take a look at this blog article. From the article itself: Governor Palin leaving her home to become governor of Alaska, and “choosing” to run for second-in-command of the most powerful nation on earth, is not a coup for the prolife cause, despite her personal convictions, but it is the death knell of the the biblical family as an American institution, and will only bring grief to those who are trying to hold together the shreds of that family vision in the midst of a perverse society. And a few quotes from the responders. quote:
My heart tells me when Deborah lead the army, she was side by side with the commander, because he wanted her there with him, side by side like a helpmeet. Being a Vice President is not a side by side position, a VP makes huge decisions for the country. Deborah was not making decisions she was a prophetess, judging for God and quote:
isn’t it faaaaaaascinating-how much women hate hate hate to hear that they are created to be the amazing, industrious, nurturing, intelligent, creative, resourceful, enterprising, loving, husband-influencing, home-centered counterparts to the male half of humankind? and quote:
Furthermore, she (Deborah) was a keeper at home: “And she dwelt under the palm tree of Deborah …… and the children of Israel came up to her for judgment.” [Judges 4:5] She wasn’t out gadding about, she was at home, and PEOPLE CAME TO HER HOUSE for judgment! I am SO SICK of people trying to make Deborah a feminist icon, when she was a godly woman whom God used under special circumstances for a special one-time only task!!! Nothing further is mentioned of Deborah after the victory over Jabin’s army. and quote:
The positive response of so many in the Christian community toward Mrs. Palin’s candidacy has revealed that the Bible is neither read thoroughly nor considered important enough to obey by many who claim Christ to be their Saviour and Lord. It is certainly a sign of the coming judgement on our nation.

stateofgrace, I read similar sentiments yesterday via the links earlier in the thread. The patrio-centric community is up in arms.

Actually you should tell this person to read the commentary on this passage from the Artscroll (Rubin Edition Prophets) translation of Joshua/Judges. It says that the palm tree was far from her home, in another part of the country altogether.

Though for the most part when we think of "Dysfuntional Patriarchal families"...we think of the adverse affect on wives and girl children (as indeed we should). However-as Dave pointed out above...this can also filter down from Senior Pastors to his "husband lapdogs".....this is also a form a "dysfunctional patriarchal family", as in "church family".

Actually, I have seen references to this practice in Christian patrio-centric circles. As have I. Many will not send a female relative out of the home without the protection of male relatives.

I've seen that, too. Many of them do not allow their daughters to sit in a car that has a male who is not her immediate relative, even if a 3rd person is there as a "chaperon".

I went back to those links that were provided earlier to spelunk around. I was shocked breathless by the names that Sarah Palin's daughter was called on one of the sites blogroll/site roll. It was a Christian site! They called here a horrible name for being pregnant out of wedlock. Then they went on to pervert/twist bible verses to support their hatred. I know that the topic of this thread is dysfunctional patriarchy..........but the pure hatred spewed against a young woman in a bad situation is telling of what they think of women that step out of line. Sad. Those that want the link can p.m. me. I won't put it on the open board.
