Today was the first official day of school for all of my kids. I feel so unprepared for this year and I just can't get myself going. My exchange student had a rough day. They didn't give him his schedule until this moring and didn't assign anyone to show him around the school, so he was sort of left to himself, and then he has only been in the country less than a week, and this is the first time he has been immersed in the English language so he had some trouble processing things so hopefully, tomorrow gets better. The other kids started out pretty well. I was sad to let Kayla go to 4K, but it was ok. I do have to admit that it was kind of neat seeing her sitting with her sister in the drive up circle waiting for me to pick her up. I feel kind of emotionally cruddy today and so hopefully tomorrow will be a better day.

Donna - Good to here Brian is doing well! I wish I lived closer to you. I'd hand off all of Ethan's old, but perfectly decent pants to you! You'll get a routine down in a few days. I'm confident of that. Went to Ty's back to school night tonight. I got to meet all his teacher and talked to most of his them. I really liked his geometry and theatre classes! They are sweet younger ladies with great personalities! I am getting a seriously grand headache. I think I'm heading to bed. Blessings, Garsy

Mrs. Tracy, that stinks they didn't have anyone show him around! Boo on that! You'd think they would know to do that with a student in such strange surroundings. That's cute about the girls! Are your girls Kayla and Kali? If so, that's interesting, because when I taught preschool I had a pair of sisters that were Kayla and Kali. Garsy, glad the meeting went well, especially with the Geometry teacher, seeing as she was the kleenex lady.

It cooled off here yesterday, so the last two nights I've had N try on pants so his big sisters could tell him if they are long enough to wear to school or not. I found some bigger sizes from garage sales downstairs, but most of them are not the slims that he needs, so I'm not sure how they'll work. But most of the ones that we had out won't last long. He didn't wear a hoodie to school this morning as we couldn't find one that fit right in a hurry. I hope you feel better tomorrow Tracy. Dee

DeeDee lost her glasses last night. She put them on the window sill and then they were caught in her sheets. So, she popped out the lense in one, and bent them up pretty good, and Poppa had to tear the place apart becuase we were looking under the window, under the bed - not IN the bed. Question for you bloggers - - Can I have a private blog? Can I have private parts of a blog? Who would be a good host for that. I would like to blog for Scouts. This is what we did, sorry we missed you (or ask your kids) and this is what I learned when I wasn't with the units. So, I would only want parents of scouts to get into it. Even then, I don't want the boys to read about where the girls are. I have a mother that would wig out about it. And, it is technically against GSUSA & BSA policy to allow a scouts last name in a 'public' forum without having express permission to do so. So, I need a general, main page and three 'by unit' pages. And it needs to be EASY and quick which is why I am going down the blog avenue, rather than the web page one. I suppose I could do 4 pages and link to the 3 specific blogs from the main Don't mind me, I'm thinking. Just open a window to let the smoke out.

ORIGINAL: danas_mom Karaboo, is yours a boy? I see the blue blanket and hat but that's not always an indicator. What a cutie, I can tell already that he/she looks a lot like you! Yes .... Caleb Nicholas, born Aug 15 @ 8:59pm ... 7lbs, 14oz ... Congrats Kara! He's soooo cute! We have a bunch of sickos here today, including me. The girls are so far determined not to miss school. We'll see how long that lasts with J-10. Last year she averaged missing about 1.5 days a week. For much of that she wasn't really sick, she just didn't "feel good." However, she's my neice, not my daughter, so it's not up to me to decide if she stays home or goes to school. Right now she's determined to go to school, but she has been known to go to the nurse's office quite a bit so she can get sent home. DD lost her calculator somewhere in the house last night. She has a zero period so she has to start school at 7 am. She hates mornings anyway and doesn't feel well. Loosing the calculator didn't help her mood at all this morning. J-8 is already yelling at everyone. This one always wakes up in a bad mood. So I'm hiding out until they all leave! Then I'm going to grab my book and go back to bed.

Jewels, yes my daughters are Kali and Kayla. Kali is the older one and Kayla the little monster. She is now off to school. (tears) I loved the name Kali and I always wanted a Katie, but my cousin named her daughter Katie so I didn't want to copy since our families are so close it would confuse people. Thanks Dee. I don't know what it is. I just can't seem to bring myself back to "normal" Hopefully it is just the weather change and school. We went from hot summer days to cold rainy days overnight and I am not kidding. I don't deal well with fall and winter and it just seems to be starting early for me this year. MBee, if you have a myspace, you can blog all you want and keep some private, some available to friends only, and some open to the public. That is why I love myspace. You get as much or as little privacy as you want. Just a suggestion. Roberta, what kind of calculator was it? I have to get a graphing calculator and those things are almost 100.00. That is just insane. Then the physics teacher wants a different calculator that is not cheap either, and all for one kid. They are for my exchange student so he can pay for them, but my son is going to need those things after my student leaves so I was going to just buy them so I had them ready for Jake but now I think that I might let my exchange student buy his own and just get Jake's when he needs them. Hi Kylie and Julia, Tink, Kath and anyone I missed!!!!!! Garcy, I hope your headache went away.

Mbee - I'm putting my hubby on this task for you. He knows more about the blogging thing then I do. I'm thinking there has got to be a way that you can keep at least some portions of a blog private or at the very least password protected. I know on my own blog that I can mark certain items as private and someone has to be given a password to access them and I moderate all comments as well, and that I can say who is allowed to comment and who isn't. Speaking of scouts - we just got a gift certificate in the mail today from Ty's former troop for the amount of money that was still in his personal account. It's for a nice sum so we need to get down to the scout office and use it for things that Ethan needs. Yes my headache is better today. It just came on extremely hard and it didn't respond to tylenol til about 3 this morning. Sweet hubby that I have let me sleep in this morning too. I've been able to ward it off for the most part today with regular doses of tylenol every 8 or 9 hours or so. Blessings, Garsy

Her first one cost $99.54 (with tax). I took it back because we found the same ones that the school uses for around $60. Before school started, I didn't have a chance to get the second one. I'm glad I didn't because her teacher had some that were left behind by students for those who couldn't afford calculators this year. PTL that she got one of those.

Garsy - it was your blog that got me thinking about it again. I wanted to do it last year but never did. I just wanted to say that 6 boys signed up last night and that we have the new Journey book for girl scouts. Stuff like that. And, that 'I went to roundtable and this is what was announced is happening in 6 months' just to build interest. By the way, I assume that was Aryn's site that I had DeeDee read (a link from yours) and she said that 'she sounds COOL'

Yes, the 10 year old photo diva is my Aryn! Aryn told me to tell DeeDee to leave a comment sometime! She's not posting very much now tho as school is back in session! I do think I'm going to add a private page to my blog for each of the girls' troops. I have to talk to their leaders yet about it. I need to e-mail Ty's German teacher and see exactly what English/German, German/English dictionary she was going to purchase. I was going to see if I could find it cheaper at our little local used bookstore. I need to call my sister too. Blessings, Garsy

I wish all of you parents well for the new school year, but I'm gonna have to say bye to this thread..I was trying to keep up with home school chat, this thread, Women only chat and Singles chat..it was too much...so I'm going to have to pick one, and I'll have to decide between Singles and Women's. Anyway, Happy School year to you all!

YIPPIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My mom just called me. She had just left her writers group meeting and just couldn't wait to call us! She asked to speak to Aryn but Aryn has been in bed for an hour and a half already. So she spilled the beans and I just had to wake Aryn up so she could tell her. ARYN IS GOING TO BE A PUBLISHED POET!!!!! My mother has an editor of a writer's magazine in her writers group and tonight he told her that they picked Aryn's poem to be published in their February issue in 2009! This isn't a major writer's magazine, but it's a step in the right direction and a big deal to us! Now they are going to be sending us some information and some forms that we have to sign since Aryn is a minor, basically to give our permission for it to be published. I guess they are also going to send a copy of the magazine to her school as well! That just tickles me and Aryn is so proud! She can't wait to tell her 4th grade teacher from last year what has happened since he sent it in to our local school district newsletter as part of the news from our school. As soon as I have more information I'll pass it along! But for right now - just allow me to bubble over with pride a little bit! Blessings, Garsy

Yay for Aryn! E thought she might need a graphing calculator, but now she says the school has some that can be used. Does anybody know how much difference there is between the cheaper models and the pricier ones? We saw one on clearance at Target for $32, but E didn't know for sure if she needed one, and I wasn't sure if that one would be OK, so we didn't get one. Had an appt about K's potential jaw surgery today. Fun stuff. Hubby met us there as it is out of town, near where he works. We came home separately. Did some shopping afterwards. All these appointments are getting expensive with going to Target and Wal-Mart when we are in town. When we pulled in the driveway this evening I looked at R's empty carseat and, in a panic, I said "where is R?" I was sure we'd left her at Wal-Mart. I was also hoping one of her sisters had let her out of her carseat and she'd gone inside and I just didn't realize that she was already inside. But one of the girls said "she came home with dad." Phew. I still rushed in to see for myself though. I felt bad; my son hurt his knee in PE today, and had to walk home. I wish someone had called me. He had a sub and didn't think that any teachers realized he was hurt. He was sure hobbling around this evening though. I left town before school let out, but I'd have picked him up early if I'd have known. But even if I'd have been home I don't think he'd have called to tell me. But I can take him to school tomorrow, and pick him up, and I wrote a note in case he has PE. They have it alternating Fridays. Dee

My dd has wanted to have her poems published but the only company that offered to do it sounds kind of shady. They wanted us to pay them to publish her work and then we would have to buy a new book every year and have her submit more work. We were going to have to sign a contract. The whole thing just seemed like a scam more than anything.

Aryn says - "Thanks!" She couldn't wait to tell her teacher from last year when we saw him this morning! He was so proud of her! She also told her 5th grade teacher who in turn announced it to the entire class! We had a meeting with the Speech therapist and Zoe's teacher this morning and we sit it up that Zoe will be having therapy with 1 or 2 other kids for one 20 minute session a week with the possibility of an additional session if there is a need. Hopefully this won't take more then a year to correct. Blessings, Garsy

Hi ladies, just a quick to post to ask if Sunnymom is still around? I thought about her tonight and haven't seen her name around. Hmmmm . Garsy, very cool for Aryn. I think I'm having a midlife crisis, yikes.
