grinderz (local)

Service Merchandise - didn't really shop there though
Linens and Things (they did not all close)
Cost Plus world market.
CompUSA - ok haven't bought stuff there in a long time but knew some people who worked there and I used to work there

Mervyn's didn't really shop there.

Petite Sophisticate - I almost cried because the clothes fit correctly on me. They are selling clothes online but it is not the same company. Someone just bought the name.

Sharper Image - liked to look around.

Childhood store's no longer there...

A&P Grocery store
Penny Candy Store(all candy for a penny..neat to leave with 50 cents worth of candy in a bag)
The dime store(downtown storfront, had everything stores)
The soda fountain drug stores
K-Mart..leaving our areas (Wallmart took over)

Anyways..in my area, we have lost all them cute little downtown store's to the "Bigger and better" department store's.

Really? There's still one near here. The closest one closed, but they got forced out of their shopping center for new development.

Kresky's (sp?). They were the precursor of "K-Mart."

Kind of. Just like Woolworth's was the mother company of Woolco. The smaller "dime stores" like Woolworths and SS Kresge started the larger discount department stores inthe 50s and 60s. Their relationship was like what we have now with Wal-mart and Sam's Club.
