Rush Limbaugh commented today that they had better have the rafters secured in Minneapolis tonight, because Sarah Palin was gonna blow the lid off of the place. Well, he was right.

Palin delivered powerful speech. She communicated extremely effectively and had me laughing hard and nodding proudly. She really did a good job of finishing off whatever shreds of Obama were left after Rudy's "warm-up" speech! She nailed a ton of the foolish things Obama has said and done, and painted a very sharp contrast between the candidate of the teleprompter speech and the candidate of experience and greater integrity. She was poised but loose, strong but funny, and extremely personable.

I am glad our first female Vice President is going to be a high-caliber Republican.

It is late, or I would go through my notes and the transcript and point out some important things that she said. Instead, I will leave my opinion and let the reasonable discussion continue from here, hopefully not along the same vein as the stupid "Hillary the Second" thread.

EDIT: I just saw earthless' thread on the Drudge copy of Palin's speech. There were a few differences between the actual speech and the way it was written, but not many. Sorry for not seeing that thread, earthless!

Let me preface my comments by reiterating what I've maintained since The Messiah, B.Hussein O., The Wicked Unrighteous Ruler and non-truly Christian got the nomination, that McCain will win in a landslide. Palin didn't seal the deal, it was already sealed, but now people have a reason to publically acknowledge their support for McCain and can vote for him without "holding their noses".

I'm just happy for you republicans who for months sulked and whined and poked your lips out like jealous little children because The Messiah, B.Hussein O., The Wicked Unrighteous Ruler and non-truly Christian, was able to deliver a good speech that excited crowds and blamed the media for fawning over him. Now have your own "speech in a suit" who the media will fawn over and who will fire up crowds.

I just feel sorry for those kids, who she probably feels obligated to drag around with her for every event, keeping them up late for one more photo op. Babysitter, school? Who needs a babysitter? She's such a superwoman she takes all her kids everywhere she goes.

Anyway.

Give McCain credit. I guess he figured, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em. He couldn't understand why his opponent's fans seemingly ignored his inexperience, lack of a clear message and questionable associations because he had "style". Caribou Barbie definitely has style and is appealing to the eye. Critics say her nomination took the lack of experience card off the table. Nope, the success and popularity of The Messiah, B.Hussein O., The Wicked Unrighteous Ruler and non-truly Christian, took the lack of experience card off the table.

The American political process has truly gone Hollywood.

I see Mr. O is sporting a new name extention. Looking good Mr. O.

I thought the speech was great. Not perfect but certainly good enough and easily accomplished what it needed to.

I'll do more later but the one downside was she criticized Obama way too much. Not that they weren't fair criticisms (I'm not saying I agree with all of them but they were fair albeit harsh in a pleasant way) but since this was her coming out party it may have not been good strategy to spend so much time attacking Obama. First impressions and all.

I thought the delivery was excellent. It was definitely a speech aimed at the base, and I noticed that she didn't really address the economy. I think Biden had better watch out! We heard exactly why she is called Sarah Barracuda!

It'll be exciting to see the debates!

My favourite part of the speech was the last thing she said,

"If character is the measure in this election ... and hope the theme ... and change the goal we share, then I ask you to join our cause. Join our cause and help America elect a great man as the next president of the United States."

Notice she didn't say "elect John McCain as the next president of the US", she said "elect a great man as the next president of the US". Put that sentence together with the words "character" "hope" and "change" and I think what you've got is an endorsement for Barack Obama. He's the person I thought of when she said the words "hope" and "change" and then said, "elect a great man". Possibly intentional, possible a Freudian slip, possibly she didn't realise the natural word association between words like "hope", "change", "great man" and the name Barack Obama. But it's not good when John McCain's running mate leaves you thinking about Barack Obama.

But the fact that I immediately thought of Barack Obama when she said that could also be because his name was fresh in my mind since she mentioned him a hundred times through-out the speech. That was the major error in most of the speeches and the RNC. They just talked about the Democrats too much. Especially in Palin's speech. Fair enough, highlight the oppositions flaws, but don't refer to them so much that people are left thinking about the Democrats more than the Republicans.

Another bad thing a lot of speakers did is they talked about McCain in the past tense too much. Every speech about McCain was like a eulogy. "John McCain was a great man", "he served the country well", "he was a maverick", "he challenged the ways of Washington" etc. Always in the past tense. At a time when the public really wants change and the promise of a bright future, the Republicans talk about the past. They should've talked more about what McCain will do in the future instead of what he did in the past.

So that's why the Republicans failed IMO.

I'll tell you what Bob George, I didn't think on the Dems so much that the focus was taken away from the GOP. What Palin did was attack the plans of the Dems using the current candidate of theirs.

It's been a while since a speech by ANY candidate has sent shivers of delight down my spine.[:D]

Well that's true. When they say things like "John McCain was a maverick", "John McCain challenged the ways of Washington", they have to speak in past tense because you just can't say those things about the present John McCain.

when votes are on the line, it is on you to best present your point, not to demean it by foolish arguments. i am helping you out. [;)]

and believe me, this is meant for both sides. do you think it would be fair for me to pick on BO for stuttering (when debating)??? probably not, and i would look stupid.

no it doesn't conflict with TOS, but it can make you and the inherent argument ridiculous.

I thought Palin's speech was brilliant.
She injected humor into her speech, was warm, confident, and sassy! [:)]
I found her very genuine and sincere and I think she has big personal appeal.
People will be able to relate to her.

I think McCain has got the election.
Of course, this was Palin's first speech, her introduction on the national stage but she wowed me![:D]

No comparison. Blacks have a history of oppression. Whites don't. So to say something demeaning to a black person, coming from a white person, has a very different effect than anyone saying something demeaning to a white person.

This is such a tired ridiculous excuse. People are people, and being offended is being offended, regardless of color.

But in the same sense as your answer, what about the fact that she is a woman? Women also have a past history of oppression. Is she exempt from criticism due to the fact that she is a woman?

I do not think the speech could have veen delivered any better by anyone.

Especially when you consider the pressure and the attacks she and her family have been under lately.

It is obvious that pressure does not derail her and that is a great quality for the office of VP or President.
