the teacher turn-over rate was so high in this other district. And a lot of that was attributed to burnout

That's another money-saving plan... it's a lot cheaper for a district to hire a new teacher than it is to keep (or hire) a veteran teacher At least in Texas, a teacher's pay is based on their years of service (overall, not just with the district), so a first year teacher will make a few thousand dollars less a year than someone who's been teaching for 20+ years. After a certain level of experience, it's really hard to get a job in a new district because no one wants to pay a veteran teacher's salary.

That's true - but they are having a lot of trouble keeping the new teachers they do get even for a couple of years. I love that my kids can pretty much rest assured that when they go back to school in any given year that the teacher they had the year before will still be there and there's a good chance that the following year they will get a teacher that they have at least seen in the hallway before. They can rest assured that they will have the same music teacher, gym teacher and art teacher, that was there the year before. It gives them a sense of stability. I think kids thrive when they know what to expect. I guess that's another reason kids in our district do so well.

Blessings,

Garsy
