Yes it is...and not talking about those with health issues that they cant help etc And reggarding overweight not talking about those one cannot notice they are carrying excess of weight, many people are overweight - but - well proportioned , toned because some constant active life style. Excess tummy fat is not only unatractive but can be dangerous for the heart of men (and women) at my age range, 40's. Than to me a healthy man who takes care of his body do show he does take care of himself and by having his attitude we are alike in this reggard, what is great to have affinity in this sense also, with any friend, male or female, because you do end up hanging out with people you have in commom. Makes sense we choose those that we have much in commom. And I like muscular men if men have to be heavy be heavy in muscles, not fat.

You can take care of yourself and still be fat, though, so all this about 'but they don't take care of themselves!' is a tv-sitcom-driven stereotype.

Well, siticom steroetype belongs to the culture as fast food , huge portions of food, instead of walk people drive cars and etc many people do have unhealthy life style and eat much processed stuff on top of that. Many cultures where people choose to walk more, watch less siticom tv couch potato style, the food portions are much less, traditional foods from culture differents and etc people are less overweight. Many overweigh issues have much to do with rich cultures of much abundance and individual self indulgence. That is what the health profissionals say, because those excess triggers diabetes, high blood pressure, heart conditions etc..and it happens even with young kids in this country and others as England. Both coutry are carrying the most overweight population in the world. Even in my country Health Department start to notice this phenomena in some big cities population also, there are huge campaign going on, is not a rich country healthy care provider, states cannot afford consequences of population start to have consequences related with weight issues and etc as people start change their lyfe style habits and becoming overweight and obese. But because is a culture that the weather is good for outdoors and beach activities etc people tend to pay more attention because is kind of always like summer time and people do enjoy to not feel good in clothes but clothes are expensive many cannot afford having to buy new wardrobe and etc.

I understand Jenny..but what I dont understand some people dont just get it is a question of personal preferences and to me what turns me on is my own private right and even just natural to spot one person and ignore others. Nothing personal of course, and people may think its personal. For exemple: there are 10 "atractive" men in a room, all same body type and 9 different hair color and style and 1 bald guy..I will automaticaly prefer the bald one. I like bald and fit man and that is what turn me on, what turn me off just turns me off. In my personal experience I learned that woman is the one who get to choose 1st and it is what nature says for a long time, I supose. Men may become way less picky because they can be more visual and the reality what they find "ideal". Who knows? I am just myself and do know my own preferences as what turns me on and of, as I am visual also. Thank God there are lots of bald man and fit guys in the world - but Godly - and other important stuff I may look for and etc still no show in my life, not worrying thou.

I don't care what body type you prefer--that's your own preference. I DO care, very much, that people seem to think fat people are all lazy and living on donuts and big macs, and that it's only ok to be fat if you are trying really hard not to be. A study came out the other day saying that 30 percent of people of european descent are genetically predisposed to being overweight, and that can be overcome by 3 to 4 hours per day of exercise. Well, sorry, but that's ridiculous, and in a non-fat person would be a mental disorder. You can't expect someone to do that just to be a socially acceptable size.

I DO care, very much, that people seem to think fat people are all lazy and living on donuts and big macs, and that it's only ok to be fat if you are trying really hard not to be. Very, very true. My husband is overweight and he is definitely not lazy, although I don't doubt that plenty of people just assume he is. His health habits aren't stellar, but they aren't any better or worse than any of his thin friends. And even if you are living on Big Macs, it might not be because you're lazy... you might just be working so incredibly hard on everything else (work, family, community service, etc.) that you don't have time for anything else. It might not be the best choice, but it doesn't fit with the stereotype that "fat" = "sit around all day and eat." I have two adopted brothers, ages 11 and 12. They eat the same food, do the same activities, live in the same house, etc. They are both about 5'2" and there is a good 30lbs difference between them. One is just built stocky and the other is built wiry Of course, if you aren't attracted to extra weight, then so be it. It's no different than prefering a tall man, or a blonde or someone who's into sky diving. It's a personal preference. And at least I know you won't be hitting on my gorgeous husband

I think this numbers 3 to 4 hours may fit atheles life style, as "celebrities" life style, military boot camp life style, and some other professions life styles. Regular people have no time or money for that much exercising, it does not fit schedulle most working people with families and etc Sure the society is very much critical, even kids can be nasty with other kids. But I do think the 1st person we see in the mirror in the morning is ourselses, if a person enjoys his/her reflexions why bother what others think? If not is their choices to do whatever they chose to do. I myself do know my body for a while and that I cannot indulge in carbohidrates and sweets, I choose to eat in moderation and keep exercising by doing that is maintanance of my present weight etc. When I do indulge on the weekends I compensate during the week by eating light and etc That is my personal approach at my age and phase in life and many do have their own approaches I guess.

ORIGINAL: captainfraulein Nobody on the earth can satisfy you utterly...only the LORD can be your all in all. Amen! Excellent post! As to the OP, for me, it would depend on a few factors. I actually like large men - to a degree. BUT. Is the man grossly, grossly overweight? I do not find that attractive. Is the man a glutton? Watching someone shovel food into their mouths is highly unappealing (no matter whether it is a man or woman and regardless of whether they are large or not). Is the man clean? Slovenliness, coupled with gluttony is probably the biggest physical turnoff to me. What does the man eat? Does he eat junk all day long or is he eating for good health? Is he a couch potato? Is he lazy? These are factors that would weigh negatively into the equation. I've dated the spectrum regarding men and their body shapes . . . tall, short, large, skinny and a lot of stuff in-between. I don't automatically discount someone because of the way they look. However, the things I've mentioned above - slovenliness, gluttony, laziness, apathy . . . if those things are present, then yes, the guy is going to be very unappealing to me.

ORIGINAL: Knolt I wonder if it's a turn off to you ladies if a guy is fat. I've seen a lot of posts lately about overweight women. but what about you? Is it a turn-off if a man is overweight? Don't mince words. show unflinching honesty. I recently saw a guy with a big belly, dressed sloppily, at a church potluck. He made a complete pig out of himself, taking about 5 large desserts after eating 2 main dishes! Boy, is that a turn-off. Disgusting! He was about 60 lbs overweight. On the other hand, if a man is somewhat overweight I don't care because it's what is in the inside that counts. As long as he doesn't engage in gluttony and is trying to take care of himself. I say this because I lost my mother when I was 5 and my father when I was 38. And, have never been married. If I were to get married, the last thing I would want is a husband who was so overweight he couldn't walk right. Or, to lose him to a heart attack or stroke. I know that's selfish, but it's the truth!

It just depends on the guy. Like the others said, gluttony is very unattractive. But a guy who takes care of himself is more attractive, regardless of size.

My dh is 6ft 2in and weighs around 300lbs. He has a lot of muscle but is big in the belly. He is not FAT by any imagination and he can work like a horse. My first attraction to him was his beautiful blue eyes. Everyone is different and entitled to their opinions. I am not turned off by a little extra weight but if it is "sloppy" weight, then yes. Some look okay heavier, some just look bad.

I went out last night with some girlfriends for someone's birthday. We went to a Irish pub then a bar to dance. I was amazed at how much I could dance. It was because I have been walking a lot (half an hour to an hour each day since April). I have not lost much weight but my endurance and health is better. A healthy man is appealing. Somebody who sits on his butt eating donuts and never ever moving...not appealing to me.

I absolutely hate it! Not going to play with this - a man with too much weight is a man who's doing something out of balance (unless he's medicated on steroids or genetically incapable for him to lose weight!) I love men who are fit. Just like myself - I don't like looking dowdy or somewhat less good/healthy as I can be. It says very much about a person if they're not taking care of themselves. I'm in health and being overweight, doesn't promote the best images to patients especially as a woman! Many people are likely to come in seeking help for weight loss and if I was overweight, I would be a hypocrite...so, it just does settle welll. I have other personal reasons for disliking heaviness in men, but it may be offensive to some people. I don't want to cause any friction.

You disliking your man to be overweight isn't offensive any more than someone prefering tall guys or blondes. It's all about what is attractive to you. But statements like this... quote:
ORIGINAL: BeautifulFemale a man with too much weight is a man who's doing something out of balance ...are offensive because they simply aren't true. And this... quote:
It says very much about a person if they're not taking care of themselves. ... is misleading as well. There are plenty of overweight people who are taking care of themselves. Weight and personal care are not always related.

Artemis...did you read what I wrote in parentheses>>>>>>> man with too much weight is a man who's doing something out of balance (unless he's medicated on steroids or genetically incapable for him to lose weight!) I say no more, lol. It does say alot if a person is not taking care of themselves because yes, you may look hot and look even better than all the skinny men out there, but if you have no other reason than excessively loving too much food in one sitting - you're abusing your body! Your body doesn't need it so why do you give it to yourself? Greed or gluttony? Chose your pick?! I must admit...I may sound harsh, but I've been someone seriously overweight and I comfort ate a great deal. I used to hate people calling me fat but they did it anyway. You know what, it was MY PROBLEM that I was emotionally eating - not only was I aware of what foods I placed in my mouth, I also knew of what foods I shouldn't be placing in my mouth, but didn't care...I also could have sought help -help is all around -that too was a choice. Sadly, I seemed to like the self-pity games I rehearsed in my brain. Like the man Christ asked do you want to be healed - I would say I wanted to be healed, but then downed another chocolate bar and cheesecake and then moan about being sooo fat!GO FIGURE! I really do not see that people in the body of Christ have excuses for being overweight and remaining that way for years -unless they are critically ill. Then again, isn't Christ there to heal you!?!! I think we can sometimes be too lax about our temples!

I don't care if a guy is overweight, as long as he is a christian, can make me laugh and cares for me enough to let me still see my best guy friends than I'm happy. I just wouldn't like it if he was grubby and overweight or a glutton. There is a resturant in Australia called Hog's Breath and it's set out in a sort of 80's style- anyway, thats irrelevant, but steak is their speciality and they have three sizes a "lite" a "original" and a "super," this guy (after eating a large nachos) ordered the super finished it all and then preceded to order this: Hoggies Rocky Road Sundae – $14.95 4 scoops of creamy vanilla ice cream and 4 scoops of luscious strawberry ice cream, on a pile of warm chocolate mud cake drenched in chocolate fudge sauce, plus marshmallows, strawberry topping, whipped cream and toasted coconut. Whew!! A spectacular dessert to share, or go solo if you dare! and finish it ALL. BY HIMSELF. He then broke the chair he was sitting on. I do not find that attractive. But a jolly man with a belly? Sure. As long as he's nice, funny and Godly.. SURE! But a glutton? No thanks.
