Everybody has different issues that are important to them, but some are more important than others. Below are some of the issues that I have heard come up so I thought I would ask which 3 are most important.

Here they are in alphabetical order (rate the issue of importance)
  • Abortion
  • Education
  • Gun Control
  • Economy
  • Energy and Oil
  • Environment
  • Gay Marriage
  • Health Care
  • Immigration
  • National Security
  • War

Mine are:
Abortion - 1
Energy and Oil - 2
Immigration - 3

If there is a key issue that is important but not listed, go ahead and list it and rate it.

(***I didn't use the poll tool because as far as I know you can't limit it to 3 choices and you could pick all issues in any order)

EDITED: Added National Security to the list.

With National Security on there, my issues in order of importance are:
National Security - 1
Abortion - 2
Energy and Oil - 3

Abortion - that's the deal breaker. If you don't value life, then you're not worthy of the office.

National Security - I want this nation protected. Period.

Everything else is a distant third or more...

I agree with the abortion part, but I must repeat the National Security is number one; for without out national security nothing else will matter.

Thanks

As far as that goes, I would take national security over oil and energy because I believe it (o&e) is a subset of that category anyway.

2. Economy.

3. Respect for the constitution (also lacking in the current administration)

I can't believe I overlooked National Security, that is a big issue! Without National Security we have no country. I had chosen immigration because without borders we are a land mass and not a country, but it will have to be bumped off.

Uh, borders don't necessarily have a lot to do with immigration. There are state borders within the United States, and those largely reflect the local laws and representation. The European Union functions in a similar capacity.

You mention the European Union and that is important because that is how I tie immigration with borders. I do believe that the North American Union consisting of Canada, the US of A, and Mexico is more than a conspiracy theory but rather what's ahead in our future.

The official SPP (Security and Prosperity Partnership Of North America) website states this is a myth but I don't buy it:

quote:

Myth: The SPP is a movement to merge the United States, Mexico, and Canada into a North American Union and establish a common currency.

Fact: The cooperative efforts under the SPP, which can be found in detail at www.spp.gov, seek to make the United States, Canada and Mexico open to legitimate trade and closed to terrorism and crime. It does not change our courts or legislative processes and respects the sovereignty of the United States, Mexico, and Canada. The SPP in no way, shape or form considers the creation of a European Union-like structure or a common currency. The SPP does not attempt to modify our sovereignty or currency or change the American system of government designed by our Founding Fathers.

Most important for me:

1: Economy: Stop taking my stuff and giving it away to secure your own re-election! And stop doing it to everyone else, too.

2: National security: Secure our stuff so crazy people world-wide don't trash it and kill us.

3: Constitutional rights (not on the original list, but someone brought it up): This administration has trashed them. Real conservatives will preserve individual liberties.

Things I don't care about at all:

1. Abortion: I've never had, caused, or conducted one. Have one, or don't. I just don't care.

2. Gay marriage: They've gone long enough without it, a while more won't kill them. On the other hand, with the radically decreasing number of straight people getting married (like me), you'd think that you would want gay marriage just to preserve the institution.

3. Health care: So screwed up in this country it's probably beyond fixing. Medicare/Medicaid/most insurance only contributes to the problem.

I'd actually consider that kind of establishment ideal, but I also consider it largely a pipe dream of pro-globalism types (such as myself). I can understand where you're coming from now, but I'll take a different attitude towards the issue.

1. National Security - gun rights, foreign and domestic terrorism, immigration and trade all fall under this umbrella IMO. I am for gun rights including concealed carry laws. prevent them (terrorists of any national origin or culture) from killing us. stop illegal immigration. and for pete's sake stop trading with china and/or any other communist/terrorist nation!

2. Judicial nominees - fair minded judges please, i don't want someone with an agenda (liberal or conservative). yes, we all have our beliefs that color our decisions... BUT stop reading stuff into the constitution because you really want it to say this or that, or you think it "should" be there!

3. Economy - take less of my money so I can spend/donate it myself. get rid of income taxes and give me the flat/fair tax. stop trying to make social security work - it was meant to be temporary and supplemental - i think it's limped along for quite long enough. modify the national board of education to simply come up with testing standards that are equal across all states but let the states fund themselves please. do something viable to help with the gas/oil issue - i don't want the oil companies to be "punished" but i don't think its right that people are held captive by the price of a gallon of gasoline either... just fix it reasonably!

Can I ask what you mean by the treatment of the poor? Also which "poor" are you talking about, the homeless, those living at poverty level, who?

http://money.cnn.com/2008/09/09/news/economy/cbo_budget_update/index.htm?cnn=yes

I wish someone (either Mr. McCain or Mr. Obama) would begin talking about THIS issue-the out of control national debt and looming economic tidal wave about to hit the U.S.

In many ways, a lot of the other issues out there (national security, etc. etc.) are tied up in that one issue. I would love to see someone willing to do something about.

I think that on some of those issues, like national security, there's very little difference between the candidates, so those issues aren't really decision points for me in this election.

In my opinion, the three issues that are going to become critical for our generation and the next, are:

1) Health care.
2) Environmental issues.
3) Economy, especially the impending crisis with our balooning budget deficit.

The two parties will probably address these issues very differently (the first two more than the third), and I think addressing the issues now will make a huge difference down the road, so I will place a lot of emphasis on them in this election.
