ORIGINAL: Rockwall Everybody has different issues that are important to them, but some are more important than others. Below are some of the issues that I have heard come up so I thought I would ask which 3 are most important. Here they are in alphabetical order (rate the issue of importance) - Abortion
- Education
- Gun Control
- Economy
- Energy and Oil
- Environment
- Gay Marriage
- Health Care
- Immigration
- National Security
- War
Mine are: Abortion - 1 Energy and Oil - 2 Immigration - 3 If there is a key issue that is important but not listed, go ahead and list it and rate it. (***I didn't use the poll tool because as far as I know you can't limit it to 3 choices and you could pick all issues in any order) EDITED: Added National Security to the list. With National Security on there, my issues in order of importance are: National Security - 1 Abortion - 2 Energy and Oil - 3 For those undecided, time is running out, what issues are the most important to you?

Isn't this kind of the same as this thread here: http://www.ibelieve.com/m_3911628/mpage_2/tm.htm Whatever the case, my three are: - economy - the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan - health care I don't feel our rights to bare arms are going to be affected no matter who we elect from this pair, so I'm not concerned with that. Gay marriage doesn't concern me. God will deal with those people in His way; I don't pass judgement (NOTE: if they start forcing churches to recognize/perform gay marriages, then I'll be very much offended). Besides, neither candidate endorses gay marriage; just the rights for civil partnerships. Abortion, for as much as I am against it, is never going to go away. I'm firmly convinced that, no matter what they say in person, both parties want to keep Roe vs Wade so they can each use it for political gains. If it ever goes away, it'll never come back and that takes away a big issue to sway voters. Unfortunately, for me, that makes it a non-issue. Death penalty is something I'm passionately against, but again, this will never go away. I see it as much the same thing as abortion in the political spectrum. The environment I would LOVE to put up on my list because of the damage that is occuring to our planet. Its obvious that we need to make changes to curb global warming. This also, for me, includes energy issues and finding new sources of fuel so we can cut our dependence on foreign oil and fossil fuels. However, I think that the three issues I put up need addressing first. Hence, I choose the two wars we're fighting, because I believe we need better direction and exit strategies to get us out and keep our troops safe. Health care, because I work in that industry and see the problems it has. an d the economy for obvious reasons.

I disagree because the president is going to elect justices with a lifetime term and they will outlast the presidential term. The DC gun ban was overturned by 5-4, and the next president is expected to nominate at least one justice, some have said up to three. That one vote will make all the difference. quote:

I cannot read their minds, but I do know what the candidates have said and how they have voted. Again, the justices are lifetime terms and there leanings will make a difference in Roe v. Wade. Roe v. Wade is un-Constitutional and Alito already has said he disagrees with it. South Dakota has a vote in this election that will directly challenge Roe v. Wade. See link and listen to audio: Alito LINK

I'm sorry I can't pick just three. But my top general categories are: Economy War Energy & Oil Health Care Education I am fully aware that neither candidate will be able to tackle all the problems we have, as there are so many, in just one term.

You're right about not being able to repair everything in one term. However, I think Bush did an excellent job in his first term considering 9/11 and everything that followed. His second term went downhill and I think he lost focus of the whole picture. Islamo-fascism was and is a real and forgotten threat that many played down, and there was an excellent article written in a German magazine in 2004: quote:
Europe – Thy Name is Cowardice A few days ago Henryk M. Broder wrote in Welt am Sonntag, "Europe – your family name is appeasement." It’s a phrase you can’t get out of your head because it’s so terribly true. Appeasement cost millions of Jews and non-Jews their lives as England and France, allies at the time, negotiated and hesitated too long before they noticed that Hitler had to be fought, not bound to agreements. Appeasement stabilized communism in the Soviet Union and East Germany in that part of Europe where inhuman, suppressive governments were glorified as the ideologically correct alternative to all other possibilities. Appeasement crippled Europe when genocide ran rampant in Kosovo and we Europeans debated and debated until the Americans came in and did our work for us. Rather than protecting democracy in the Middle East, European appeasement, camouflaged behind the fuzzy word "equidistance," now countenances suicide bombings in Israel by fundamentalist Palestinians. Appeasement generates a mentality that allows Europe to ignore 300,000 victims of Saddam’s torture and murder machinery and, motivated by the self-righteousness of the peace-movement, to issue bad grades to George Bush.
