This is the Current Events folder Maggie. By the time one figures out the abbreviations they aren't current anymore, so no one here pays any attention.

Anyone here in SWLA? Just wondering how the weather is there right now. CNN & the Weather Channel are mostly showing TX, but it looks like feeder bands are sweeping parts of LA as well. I have family there, and my house with most of my possessions as well. I've been in Gerogia for the last two months with my husband for his job, and I hate to call anyone in case they are sleeping.

I stayed in Lafayette for the storm but have heard that the flooding is far worse this time than it was for Rita. Channel 7 is streaming live.

I'm not much of a weather watcher, but I have started watching this; a few of y'all who live in that area are very dear to me.

I've been watching the weather channel and it's all the big news. Everyone is sending in their photos. Of course, now things have quieted down a bit now that Ike has moved on. I'm in Illinois and the last of Ike has moved out to the north. I think it's hitting Chicago now. What a lot of rain, rain, rain, rain!! Lots of flooding too. I have to say, even the hurricans in TX are big!! Geesh!! Has anyone seen the sun yet? I think it's still up there. :(

I sooooooooo tired of rain. Here in Northern IL we're soaked to the bone and then some because of both hurricanes. I think we've had over 10 inches of rain in the last few days.

I did try to call. Left a message on his phone. But if they are without power, I'm sure they will want to conserve what they have and I think that would include recharging phones and such.

I'm sure he will check in in some way as soon as he can.

My family and I are holding our own in Beaumont. Still no power - but we have a generator. I boarded up the windows and we rode it out. What a friday night! One pine tree snapped off about a 30' section and killed our carport - as well as the car underneath. It's ok - we've got insurance. Besides, I always wanted a convertible.

When Ben checks in, you guys tell him I said hey!

Sharon, have y'all gotten the remnants of Ike yet? It looked like you might be getting some rain on the radar earlier.

I live just Northwest of Houston, Outside the Cypress/Fairfield area. Got a lot of wind, and some wind damage around town. We were fortunate, we lost power 5:30 am Saturday morning, but were back online at 4:30 in the afternoon. In our small town there is a lot of fighting in the lines when the gas stations finally opened. Courtesy went out the window, unfortunately. The police and the Volunteer fire departments did a wonderful job, and the city workers started cleaning up as soon as they could.

I feel for the people in the Galveston area and those on the coast who took the brunt of it. We had our church service this morning, and we had people both from Galveston and Katy there staying with friends. They were worried of course about their belongings and property, but they were grateful to the Lord that they got out before the storm hit.

I'm glad y'all's power came back on fairly quickly (well, quick for the circumstances).

Yes Beckey, the past couple of days have been rainy and very muggy even with the lower temps. But I know we didn't get anything near what the folks in some areas of Illinois did, and clearly, you folks in Texas and Louisiana are dealing with some awful damage. I know they have talked about 4 dead from the storm. I pray, pray, pray, that the count stays low.

Glad to hear power was only out for a short time, dwtramm! I was privy to some overheated tempers earlier today at one of the very few stations that was open - I apparently pulled in front of a guy, not realizing he trying to get behind the vehicle in front of me. I gave him a wave, and acknowledged that I would move for him. Before I could get the car in reverse, some punk in a truck behind him started cussing and yelling about cutting in line. A really nice word that starts with "mother" I moved my truck, got out, and walked back to the loudmouth. I guess he thought I was going to start a fight. I just told him, calm down, everything's cool, I didn't realize I was pulling in front of anybody. we're all in this together, right? He didn't seem to appreciate my "can't we all just get along speech" Some people, you just have to deal with.

Good for you for going to talk to him!

And those of you who've gone through the storm, I'm glad to hear you're okay--even if all your property isn't.

I suspect there are easier ways of getting one than killing a carport.
