Congratulations, Ruth! I had a bit of disappointment when we found out Hunter was a boy and not a girl. I think it was because I was so sure he was a girl, but all it took was me going shopping for boy stuff to get excited.

I decided to wait and start my running regime on Monday since that is how the program flows and it will make it easier. Oh Saturday we have our first book club meeting, so excited. We are going to meet at one of the ladies house, order in Chinese, and discuss...can't wait!

Rachel, I always love your descriptions of Isabel, she sounds like quite the girl and I just LOVE her hair.

And she is totally laid back, not high maintenance at all, for a girl, lol. But I'm not, either, so I guess that's why. Your little girl will probably take after you, and be a very well-rounded young lady!

eta: LOL, as we speak, Isabel is outside playing tractors with her brother in her pink shorts and knee-high rubber boots, with her hair standing in every direction.

Aw, thanks, that is a cute image. You know, I wasn't a total tomboy growing up. Most of my older relatives remember me as something in the middle when I was little.

I do have love for certain "girl books", like Anne of Green Gables. I doubt Nathan will be to interested in Anne, but perhaps there will be certain things I can share with a daughter.

We read Nicholas Sparks book Nights in Rodanthe. We are all going to get together to see the movie when it comes out in theaters too.

Absolutely!! (I'm a big Anne fan, too! I have all the books and can't wait for Izzy to read them. You might be surprised about Nathan, though . . . . Isaac loves the Anne of Green Gables and Anne of Avonlea wonderworks videos we have! With Megan Follows?)

No, Ruth, that totally doesn't sound messed up. At first, I was kinda hoping for a little sister for Timmy, so when I had that dream about my two boys before the ultrasound, I felt a little dissapointed.

Chelle, that sounds like fun! What book are you reading?

Ruth, congrats! And yes, go buy lots of cool girl clothing to make this whole having a girl thing set in. If we have a girl I will make sure to buy lots of different colors cuz I would get so sick of seeing pinks and purples all the time.

Rachel, Izzy sounds like me when I was her age. I had all boy friends and used to rough house with them. My mom always laughed seeing her tiny girl beat up the boys. My sister is WAY more girly than I'll ever be.

So, I got a call back and the lady told me they don't have counsellors. They just have courses you can take for certain things. But she referred me to a grief counsellor that is a Christian so I called her and left a message. I hope it won't cost a lot cuz I don't think our insurance will pay for it. And that would just stress us out even more.

Amber, how are those kittens doing???

From empirical evidence, I know more high needs girls then boys (except in cases where the boys where special needs), so I guess I was feeling trepidation at the thought of a girl.

I didn't know that my 2nd would be a girl right up to the moment she was born. I had also thought I'd have two boys and was apprehensive at the prospect. I didn't know if I'd be able to relate to a girl.

What I hadn't banked on (LOL) was the fact that she might actually be like me. Which she was/is.

And was she high needs?? NOPE!! She was a breeze. I'd found things with my ds so difficult that we'd waited 3 years before trying again. I tell you, if we'd had my dd first, we'd have had our second a lot sooner.

quote:

I hope all of this doesn't sound to awful. It's just that I love my little boy so much; I'm a bit of a tomboy, and I know boy stuff, boy things.

She will very likely be like you; she will also have a big brother, so she will be more likely to do boy things. MY dd hates dolls from the start, wanted to play with her brother's dinosaurs. She had her own collection by the time she was 2.

So, be encouraged by the fact that you're a girl, and you're ok and you two will probably have a lot more in common than you realise.

Thanks Rachel. I had no clue they had grief courses at churches here. I even looked online and that site never came up. I left a message with the church and also an email with the leaders. If it is the right course for us it starts next tuesday which would be perfect! I let Lorne know and he is happy you found that out for us.

I am also expecting a call back from that grief counsellor I called. I think we both would rather go to a group though so we could share with other people, pray with a group of people who understand and be able to help out other people as well.

Good choice. I was the same, but I must say the pink has grown on me. I'll never be a ruffly, frilly girl though...and I hope my girls aren't either.

And I felt similarly when I knew we were having Hannah. I had two boys already, knew what to do with boys, and being a girl...having a girl who was like me was terrifying to me. I won't say there haven't been challenges with my girl, but they aren't really any worse than the boy challenges...just different. My second girl didn't scare me at all.

Pssst...sometimes when they say "girl", it comes out a boy instead.

It was funny. I don't like pink at all, having been forced to wear it when I was a child and young teen. But I didn't want to enforce my bias on my dd, so I dressed her in pink sometimes, along with other colours.

When she was two or three, without warning, she looked at her clothes one day and said "I hate pink, mummy", so I didn't dress her in it again. (I can assure you she NEVER heard me, and I can't imagine she heard anyone else say it either!) It's only in the last couple of years that she has decided to wear the occasional pink item, but it's still not often.

LOL Manda your daughter sounds like me. I liked pink until I was old enough to realize I hated it. My room was pink and I just could not stand it anymore. I only started liking pink again when I finished high school and decided that I would wear it occassionally. I like it now, but I definitely don't wear it all the time. I pretty much like every color so pink is just another color that I like.

Rachel is so cool! Can I brag about her here? She sent me a link to a grief class that is in my city. There were actually 3 different classes at 3 different churches. I contacted the leaders of the group that were in the church closest to us (about 20 minutes away). She just called me back and we are going to go to the 13 week grief course at their church. She is so happy that I called and explained that everyone there will be dealing with different griefs and that her husband just recently lost his job and is grieving over that so this course will help him too. I am very happy that Rachel sent me that link because now Lorne and I will have a group of people to talk to that will understand and can help us out hopefully. And hopefully we will be able help out other people too. She even explained that there is one class all about family and friends that move on and let you grieve on your own and both Lorne and I are dealing with that. She said that one topic helped a lot of people in their last class.

I am excited and so thankful that Rachel took her time to find this for Lorne and I. And I am so thankful for all you ladies who still care and pray even though it's been 3 months. Love you all!

I'm so bad about staying in my "regular" threads and not checking to find others. So I was excited to find this thread!

Chelle, I just started a book club last Friday! How often do you meet and do you bring the kids? We meet monthly at a local Christian coffee house and bring the kids (not all of us do since some of them are at school/preschool). I'm so excited to have this outlet for some "real" conversation. Our book for October is The Shack.

I'm a big Anne fan too...hoping Josie enjoys it like I do. Oh, and Little House on the Prairie. I have the Anne videos too (one and two) but didn't buy three since I so didn't like it!

Those pink stories are funny. From the time I was 16ish up until about a year ago, I wore pink just about everyday. I finally started liking brown and olive green though, so I now I wear those too sometimes. Still mostly pink though.

Today has been the longest day!!

Do most children eat chili? Dh would like to have friends over for football on Saturday, and I was thinking about making a pot of chili. Anyone have any suggestions for something healthy (low-cal, low-fat, and whole grain) to serve with it for the adults watching their waistlines? A salad just sounds to me and grilled cheese sounds too high fat. I'm thinking of offering a grilled cheese, fritos, cheddar, and crackers to the children and dh... but I just can't figure out a healthier side for the rest of the adults!!

That's funny about pink!! Who would have thought girls would hate it so much... I mean, I don't care if I wear it or not. It depends more on the shade than the fact that it's pink to me. Now, disliking purple I can understand. I liked it just like a good little girl is supposed to. I even begged my mother for my room to be painted that color. She relented and painted it a soft lavendar... and I have hated purple ever since... that lavendar shade literally makes me feel sick... I know, it's nutty!! Isn't it funny how we all feel differently about colors?

My kids don't care for chili. That's one meal that when I make it, I make them something else, usually chicken nuggets or something.

Ideas for your get together...veggie tray with dip, rye bread with dip, cheese/lean pepperoni/cracker tray.

You don't like purple??!! I'm going to try to overlook such a blatant sin. It'll be hard, but I'll try.

you could also add hot dogs to it...that way if the kid doesn't like chili they can eat a hot dog instead...I don't know too many kids that don't like hot dogs.

Are you guys leaving tomorrow Crystal? I guess you don't really know until you see what path the storm is taking right?

Nicole, I didn't tell you yet cuz I just found out today. And I was waiting for you to email me back cuz lately I keep adding to the emails I send you and then you have WAY too much to read and catch up with lol. Have a fun day today! I will email you back in a bitty bit okay?

Ugh. Lorne is still at work and it's 6. He is off at 4, but usually stays till 5. He was supposed to leave at 4, but he has been waiting for the investigators to come talk to him. They are with the family of the pilot right now so its not like they can just get up and leave. That would be so rude. I called Lorne and was talking to him for a few seconds and then someone started talking to him so he said he had to go and hung up. So I hope he is talking to them now so he can get it over with and come home. It takes him an hour to get home so he is going to be tired tonight...like almost every night. Poor guy.

Grilled cheese? Yes! And adults like me like them too. Mmmmm!

Lorne just called. He is finally leaving work... 3 hours late. The investigators that he was supposed to talk to never called him back and his boss said it looks like they are gone. And no one can get a hold of them. They have 2 numbers and no one is answering. I guess they are busy... or maybe they drove back home already (3 hours away). Oh well... so Lorne is driving home now.
