Why are they called gay anyway? Gay is what you are when you are joyous. I don't see homosexuals being overly happy or bubbling over with joy. In fact many of them I have met have been nasty and gossipers and miserable at that.

We have one church across the street from home that I observed Wednesday (remember, I am in limbo with my home church because of major issues) and the youth don't care about this -- they say dancing to his music in church is still better than to sing sacred choral music from 300 years ago. I can promise you there are NO youth out there still dancing to Ray Boltz music . . . Good grief, it's 2008. The person running youth ministry at the church said the teen dancers dance to Boltz music still, and they've done it for many years, including recently. Maybe there are some remixes out there I'm unaware of. His music is/was difficult enough to listen to (for me, anyway). I can't imagine anyone attempting to dance to it.

ORIGINAL: RevRomansky It's now time for Boltz to put on that millstone necklace. We must be careful that, not wanting to judge him, we promote him. Discerning, calling out, condemning his practice of and promotion of Christian homosexuality, condemning his satanic degradation of the name of Jesus. It's time to judge someone who has traded his soul for his lust, and encourages others to do the same. This is not someone who doesn't know better, he does, and he made a clear choice. As to his music, "hating even the garment spotted by the flesh". Why would we continue to add to his income and fame when he is actively working against Jesus and promoting doctrines of demons? Wake up, people. Sure, pray for Ray to repent. But those who hate Jesus and Christians are reveling in Boltz's coming out, and he's leading the parade. And, I fear, he has lost his soul in the process. Sadly, RevRomansky Now who said anything that he was encrouaging others to do the same?

Understand, Bobby has to interject that whole "teens dancing in church instead of singing good old choral music" into every thread he participates in. In another thread they were dancing to pop music, now it's Ray Boltz music. If the subject is ever polka or country I'm sure he'll have them dancing to that as well. Back to the subject: I've been torn on whether or not to throw his music out as well. Ray has apparently been hiding this for years. Does that make the wonderful message in "I Pledge Allegiance To The Lamb" or "Thank You" any less valid because the writer has chosen to participate in sin? Do my sinful actions negate the songs I write. Likewise, many churches that incorporate "high church" style worship routinely use classical pieces, pieces that were written by composers who were incredible pagans. I haven't reached a point of decision on whether or not to continue listening to Ray's music (although the fact that I really haven't listened to him in quite some time may make that transition easier)

What a bizarre, counter-cultural, counter-good-taste youth ministry. . . Definitely not the norm, I promise. I don't even need my degree in youth ministry to tell you that that just aint normal. I think that depends on what part of the country or what type of church one attends. There are still many, many Boltz fans, young and old.

Boltz update: http://rayboltzblog.wordpress.com/ Apparently Ray's got a new song out, and looking at the lyrics you can see how deceived he's gotten.

So, is he hoping that this becomes a new pro-gay-marriage anthem or something? Ray's lyrics, imho, have always been pretty vapid and this new tune doesn't break from that tradition.

Both disgusting and sad at the same time. What an arrogant song title! As if God doesn't have the right to set boundaries on our behaviors.

OK, I read the whole thread (which is a big deal for me because I'm usually too lazy), and I don't think there is anything I can say to add to or detract from the whole "gay and CCM" debate. It is what it is (what it is). [footnote here crediting Gene Eugene] I would like to propose an angle. Most Christians agree (which is a dangerous supposition, I know) that the gay lifestyle is a lifestyle of sin. God pretty clearly hates homosexual activity. So, what if the sin Ray was found to be wallowing in was something else? What if, after years of hiding it somehow, it was suddenly and publicly discovered that Ray was an alcoholic or wife beater or compulsive shoplifter. Would there be the same public outcry to pull his music and have him thrown in the ocean with a millstone tied aroun his neck? Is that even possible...to "throw" a millstone? Who out there has the strength for that? Ooo...maybe we could get John Jacobs and the Power Team to do it! That would be poetic. Then again, why waste a perfectly good millstone? Probably should just use a large boulder. But it's kinda difficult to securely tie a rope to a boulder, I suppose. And would it have to be a rope? Maybe a bungee cord or... Oh yeah. Sorry about that...got distracted. Anyway, let's define what level of sin is acceptable from our CCM personalities. Some of the dancers/backup singers Tobymac uses wear kinda low-cut shirts...is that ok? Oh, and there's a whole slew of rock bands with evil-looking tattoos all over their bodies. Isn't that defacing the temple of God? I NEED CLARITY PEOPLE! CLARITY!!!

Neal - I reserve my judgement based on the actions of the sinner. One who is repentive will get my support and prayers. One who is unrepentive will only get my prayers that they repent.

If he claimed it was OK for him to be a shoplifter/wifebeater/etc then I think so.

Yes, I think there would be the same outcry IF he was unrepentant and was spreading his message of deceit around, as he is with his homosexuality. No one would be outraged if he had admitted his sin, turned back to God, and was walking out repentance. Instead, he is using his platform of fame to tell everyone that his sin is not only okay, but approved by God. I would be appalled at that no matter what the sin was.

Who was it recently...Terry MacAlmon?...who had the extra-marital affair, admitted to it, and yet was unrepentant about it? Forgive me if my data is incorrect, but I remember some press and discussion about his actions and the reactions were not good. People sin, fair enough? None of us score anywhere close to perfect, so we'll get that out of the way first. That said, it's our follow-through that can determine our true heart and our standing with God and with God's people. If we don't repent...well, I don't think that the consequences are positive, not in this life nor the one to come. For everyone else, there's forgiveness.
