Does anyone know of any free online lesson plans for astronomy, any good astronomy websites (children from ages 6-13), or any suggestions about teaching astronomy please let me know.

Thanks and God bless

I know this isn't exactly the standard, but have you ever thought of investing in DVD's of that program that was run on Discorvery Channel, recently: "The Universe?"

I believe you can get the entire series, and its pretty comprehensive and informative, I thought. I don't know if I'd go on it by itself, but I think it'd help with the education.

Find your local astronomy club. In both towns we have homeschooled in, the astronomy club met once a month at night with their giant telescopes and those guys will answer any question a kid has, plus give a dissertation, lol.

And, then, of course, check out your library.

Answers in Genesis has some great resources. One book, (not a curriculum, but has great info and pictures) is Taking Back Astronomy by Dr. Jason Lisle. There is also a companion DVD (which is the same presentation as shown in the Planetarium at the Creation Museum), called The Created Cosmos.

My middle school student is exploring this web site for enrichment.

Space Class

You have to log on to register your school, as NASA and the sponsors want to see how many schools/classrooms they are reaching. I have no trouble as a private school with one student. [:)]

Answers in Genesis has online study guides for books that you can order.

There is a great website for astronomy stuff that has a lot of astronomy principles put to music. It is LOTS of fun and also has lessons online. YOu can order a CD with all the songs and stuff or download what you want from the CD.

I am teaching physics to non-majors on the university level (and am trying to get them to let me teach astronomy next year too...) and I love this as a teaching tool.

The website is:

You might want to try ClassicalAstronomy.com. I didn't explore it thoroughly, but the website also has a free e-newsletter in addition to the curriculum that has to be purchased. It also has several features on the site itself, such as what the sky will look like today.
