Alright...
If you are a Steve Taylor fan, this thread is for you. Steve Taylor, I believe, is the best lyricist in Christian music today and yesteryear and is the reason for the Newsboys's success in many of their albums...
but the big question is....where is Steve Taylor today??? What has he been up to???
please respond by posting your favorite song or what-not by Steve Taylor.

I agree. Steve has been producing mainly. He produced the movie The Second Chance starring Michael W. Smith. I'd love to hear another album, though...
My favorite is Meltdown followed by I Want to Be A Clone, On the Fritz, I Predict 1990.

I too concur that his lyrics are some of the best ever - not just CCM, but any genre. Really, anyone who could reference Eddie Munster in a song and have it make perfect sense is aces with me.
And I've said this a gazillion times on these boards already, but I have to let it out somehow: WHEN IS LIMELIGHT GOING TO BE RELEASED ON CD AND DVD?!?! Come on, people. One of the best live albums ever and it died a quick death on vinyl, cassette and VHS. What's the deal?
Anyway, thanks for the thread. ST is one of the best ever. Hope we haven't seen or heard the last of him.

I agree, Markb77. I forgot about Limelight> I'd have to insert it as my 3rd by ST. Liver follows I Predict in my listing...
I saw ST at my 2nd concert ever. It was $10 and I got to see him, Phil Keaggy, Randy Stonehill, and David Meece. It was so much fun!
I also saw him open for Petra on the "Beat the System" tour and met him at the release of I Predict 1990.

I remember seeing him at cornerstone when i was a toddler..., that's all...but after growing up, i really appreciate his music, especially in college now, where he puts the best perspective on the campus views...i would have to put squint as my number 2 by him, overall it is just a lot of fun to listen and sing (especially the song Smug, and Sock Heaven)...
favorite song: Since I Gave Up Hope (I Feel a lot Better)

He performed at Creation 2003. I felt privileged to have seen him in concert. He put on an absolutely energetic and entertaining show. I wish I knew more about him other than that. I think he had a song called "Jesus is for losers," which is a very clever use of lyrics.

Now that is one that I did not really know by him much at all. I am much more familiar with his 80's stuff instead including the controversy over releasing "I Predict 1990." Apparently he wanted more money to produce the album but Sparrow (his label at the time) said no, but feel free to shop the project around to another label if you like. He did and Myrrh jumped at the chance! The result was a very different sounding Steve Taylor than on previous projects.

I was a big fan of ST in the 80's. I think he is one of those writers that people either loved or couldn't stand. You need to share his warped sense of humour in order to get it. Lots of people couldn't understand his lyrics. I loved the way he took popular phrases and turned them around, like: "Only the young die good". He straddles that line between genius and insanity, and he does it very well. I also agree that the Newsboys owe a lot of their success to ST's songwriting and producing.

I like Steve Taylor but I actually think Terry Taylor from DA/Lost Dogs, Bill Mallonee from Vigilantes of Love, and Jyro Xhan from Mortal/Fold Zan/Juggernautz/Lucena, were all better lyricists as far as Christian artists are concerned.
The Chagall Guevara record is a classic, and I like much of Squint and a few songs from I Predict 1990. It gets sketchy before that.

I Predict 1990 and forward was a new direction for ST. The ealier stuff such as what was linked was more that 80's new wave sound, while I Predict 1990 forward was more of a rock alternative type sound instead.

Got to hear Meltdown yesterday...on the radio, and in an unusual situation to boot.
I don't know if this is something that is under the Calvary Radio (Calvary Chapel), but on Saturday mornings the one in my area (at least) runs a 2-hour kids block called "Praise Club Workshop". I've noticed in recent weeks that they've started playing some '80s Christian music, such as this one, "Child's Love" (correct title?) by Bryan Duncan, and Mylon and Broken Heart's "Crack the Sky".
EDIT: I'm not sure if the Bryan Duncan title is correct.

Yeah, "A Child's Love" is correct. Great songs, btw. I'd love to hear '80s songs again!!!
