ORIGINAL: ChelseaRae Mary is 17 months. How many times do your toddlers poop a day? Mary is pooping 3-4 times a day right now and it is rarely solid. She is also rather gassy. I haven't been feeding her anything different but her poops used to be a lot more solid. Do you think I should be concerned? When mine were that age, they'd poop just once, possibly but rarely twice, per day. The fact that it's not solid, and is gassy, would give me cause for concern. For how long has it been going on? Could it be a bug or has it been going on longer than a bug would last?

Sorry Chelsea, I can't help you with your question, as far as I can remember Akeelah's been a once a day pooper (I obviously have a selective memory!) But I love the photo of Mary with the books in your blog. I always find Akeelah like that and it's the best thing ever!

Chelsea, Levi has been like that off and on since he had a bad tummy bug in July. I notice he is not dealing with dairy well anymore and he used to have no problem. When I open acidophillus capsules into his milk sippy, his poops get more formed. If you take him off dairy for a couple days and they get harder, you probably have the culprit. Whether you decide to just limit the dairy intake or try the acidophillus would be up to you...but it worked for me. You have kids who will look at books and not tear them up? I am insanely jealous. Levi destroyed his Brown Bear book today, and he LOVES that book! Sigh. No more books in his crib at nap time...

Nathan has been known to nab me while I'm on the toilet, hand me Green Eggs and Ham and say "Book?". He figures he has a captive reader.

I have to admit, she does growl sort of already. I've kind of taught her to when she gnaws on my knuckles to growl like a dog. I'm pretty sure it will come back to bite me in the behind but it's cute for now. It makes sense now that you said about Esther being the new baby. I nannied for an 8 year old and 4 month old for a few months and the older girl would pinch the baby on purpose to make him cry so she could soothe him.. it was weird.

Nathan seems to have learned something new. He stood in the tub and looked down at himself, then started and stopped his pee, looking at the stream. It was like he was cognizant of the fact that he could pee at will, provided there was urine in his bladder. When he was peed out, he kept trying, then looked at me and said "it's stuck!", which is his all-purpose phrase for something that won't move or work. Now, I don't encourage peeing in the tub, but awareness of ones ability to control such functions does seem like step in the right direction of potty training, no?

Maybe not the best timing, with you being almost due, but it would not be a bad idea IMO to start talking about potties and stuff with him, and maybe sitting him on one occasionally (no pressure - just to sit there to see what it's like)/

Motrin is ibuprofen, just a brand name of it. It's okay to give it back to back when they need it. Teething or butt rash that make them miserable qualifies. If you were in pain, you'd take something, right? In proper dosage, it's fine. Yes, the dermoplast does work. It's for minor injuries, burns (even sun burns!), stitches, etc. It does help relieve the immediate pain while you can get the ibuprofen working. I would not give Tylenol for this kind of thing, as it is not an anti-inflammatory and that is what you want. Also, when he poops, you probably want to give him a warm bath each time instead of wiping the poop off with a wipe. The wiping hurts. Warm water is more soothing, and you can put baking soda in the water also. And to your PS...yeah, me too!
