I'm fine with the 2am feeding! It used to be like that where he would wake up once at night, but now it's every 3-4 hours for 2 months now. I was just wondering if there i s something i can do to make it once a night again. If I should implement 'cc' when he's only been asleep TWO Hours, etc. Or if this really is what is better for him and what HE really wants - to not get long stretches of sleep.
eat before bed, wake around 10, wake around 3, wake in the am to get up for the day.
or, heck - eat at six, 12, eight.
Just something longer than what he's been doing.
I realize I sound like I'm whining. I don't mean to whine. Maybe I shouldn't have started this conversation.

My SIL swears that her neice goes that long (she is 6 months) without eating and is fine... she is a Ezzo fan though.

I would just wait and see what is going on when he's a year old. Once he is getting "real" calories from food and you wean it might be easier to get him to sleep for longer at a time.

I don't consider it whining Jae, you are frustrated and tired and things have changed and you want to know why. I think anyone normal would say they have felt the same way before

Janine you're doing fine.
I honestly would change my thinking to his/your bedtime being 11:30.
Little miss takes the 6 pm nap but also takes the 8 or 9 pm nap. She isn't out out until 10:30 or 11, we actualy like that schedule. We go to bed late as it is so it's nice to include her in our routine. We all get in bed and read and then we all go to sleep.
You aren't whining at all, but ya gotta let go of the 7+ hr sleep goal. For now.

How many times a day were you using Hylands?
And also, IMO Jadon could easily be having 3 solid meals a day now, and it also might help him to sleep longer at night. Mine were on 3 solid meals a day by the end of their 7th month. Might not help him sleep longer, but it could well do. What times is he having his solids?

Janine, I agree that you are not whining. I know how hard it is to go without enough sleep. Can you adjust his bedtime to be 8 or 9 and feed him solids prior to that? Does it seem like he sleeps longer after he eats solids? Since he was sleeping longer than 4 hours at a stretch up until the last couple of months, he may be going through a growth spurt, teething or something else that is temporary. Hang in there!
Can you sooth him in the middle of the night instead of feeding him or does he continue to scream bloody murder until he eats?

You know, there are some babies of Jadon's age that go down for the night at 6/7, but I reckon it's a minority. At round about that age, my ds was going down at 8pm and sleeping (with waking once or twice, but not for a feed) until 6am, at which time he was wide awake, and often wouldn't go down for a nap even after a feed.
If it was me, I'd probably aim for a bedtime nearer 9pm at this stage, and then slowly bring it forward over time.

Go easy on yourself, Janine, after all you've not done this before, remember!! I personally think it's an unrealistic expectation for Jadon's age, especially as this age is a prime time for teething.

It's not a dead cert, but you might find he is more settled in the evening if he starts having some solids at breakfast time as well as his breast feeds. I think food takes 12 hours to get through our systems, so the benefit from breakfast tends to be felt in the evening.

I personally wouldn't want to feed solids right before bedtime, in case it caused indigestion. I think 2-3 hours before bedtime is the latest I'd want to give them.

Adults take between 12 and 72 hours to fully digest food (fruit/veggies, basically non-meat take nearer the 72), so I'd imagine a baby's stomach would be much the same. The food takes 6-8 hours to clear the stomach and small intestine, then it moves into the large intestine. So the benefit begins to be felt some time after that, as the nutrients enter the bloodstream. It all takes time.

Adam is 4 days younger than Jadon, and Adam has 2 bottom teeth now (working on more).
We try to have him take an "evening nap" (if we can, if we're home) that lasts about one hour right around 8:00 or so.
Then from about 9 p.m. we keep him awake by playing with him till after 10 p.m. Usually about 10:30 I feed him (nurse him) and he goes to sleep shortly thereafter.
He has been sleeping through the night fully (8-9-10 hours straight) since he was 12 weeks old....UNTIL HE STARTED TEETHING.
Now he wakes up most night around 3 or 4 a.m. needing a diaper change (usually) and a feed. My husband changes him, I nurse him, we snuggle him, he goes back to sleep.
We're not really schedule people because we have flexible evenings so he needs to be flexible, but we don't let him fall asleep for too long too early or he will be wide awake at, say 1 a.m. wanting to PLAY. Um, no.
So Jae, it *is* completely normal. I know that Adam wakes up because his mouth hurts and that makes it really easy for both my DH (who willingly gets up on his own to change the diaper) and me to deal with the baby. He HURTS. We want to comfort him and get him settled back down.
I gave up the mental idea of normal sleep when it took me 5 days to give birth. I haven't expected it since. 
(We do get a few nights off, randomly, where the baby sleeps the whole night through. And we do realize we had about 20 or more weeks of uninterrupted sleep so that was cool. And we'll get back there.)

Very little, if anything, is likely to make them sleep better when they are teething.
However, I suggested Jadon going up to 3 meals a day, because I would have thought that Jadon would be ready for 3, and it might make him a bit more settled in the evening even if not sleepy.

I think I have a little water baby. I gave Isaac a bath last night when he was fussy, as soon as I stripped him down and put him in his tub his crying stopped. Then he grinned and squealed the whole time I was spraying him with water (I use the handheld shower sprayer). He would even get excited when it splashed in his face like when washing his hair, so I started lightly splashing him on purpose. He LOVED it. However, the crying resumed when we had to get OUT of the bath  Oh and I weighed him last night, last time we weighed he was 8lb 3oz, that was a week ago I think, so here I am thinking about 8 1/2 lbs, (he's been gaining slower these days) but no...my little boy is 8lb 15oz!!! Almost 9 lbs!!!!

Jae, I don't think you're whining, but I think that bedtime is incredibly early! To my mind, anyway. Could you bump his nap and bedtime schedule back a few hours to closer to when you go to bed (8 or even 9 pm)? You'd get more sleep that way.
FWIW, both of my babies have gone or do go to bed at 7. Roughly. It wasn't until we instituted the early bedtime that Nadia's fussy evenings stopped. They both sleep 7 till 7, wake up once or twice to eat. Every baby is different, but that bedtime works for us.
On a different note, I got tired of carrying around a purse and a diaper bag, but my biggest bag isn't big enough. Any suggestions on a bag that is big enough to do double time?

That's me too
And I think Maggie had a good idea about moving the bed time to later and seeing if that helps. My babies have always gone to bed at 9pm.

This is the sickest I've seen him. We haven't slept much for 2 nights because he's so snotty and icky. Last night he kept waking up gasping for air and coughing a nasty hoarse cough. I'm thinking it's croup, from what I've read on the internet. I held him in the steamy bathroom for a while, and after that he actually slept for 3 hours straight. (he had been waking every 20 minutes trying to breathe.) Is there anything else I can do for him?? I'm going to pick up a humidifier this afternoon when I go to Wal-Mart.
