Hey all ... serious prayer request.
My cousin is in the ICU suffering from a gunshot wound. It is believed to be self-inflicted but it is unclear whether it was an accident or something else.
He is not expected to make it.
He is the father of 11 kids, including stepchildren.
Please pray specifically that his son is able to make it home in time to see his father. He is in the military and was about to be deployed to Iraq. The Red Cross found him in Hawaii but he was unable to get a plane home the last I heard. (He may be in Ohio by now .. I hope so.)

Thanks. Of course I am wondering what happened, but I feel selfish for asking. What do I say if I call? It sounds really callous to ask for an update. I know what is going on, it's just a question of when.
I'm not really close to him (he kind of stayed away from the family) but I dearly love his mother and sisters.
I just called the hospital to see if he is still a patient. They transferred me to the ICU, which put me on hold and told me the nurse was off the floor. So I have no idea what's up.

Di, is he close enough that you can go visit? (I know you have a busy schedule)
Do you know if he is a believer? We can at the very least pray for him in that respect.
It's awkward calling the hospital, but even if they won't give you any information (and they probably won't), you can at least tell the nurse that you are praying for him. I think that message will get relayed to him by the nurse, and I believe that even in an unconscious state he can hear and understand that. Sometimes that is the seed that is needed.
I am praying. This is an issue very near to my heart.

I went to the hospital, but not to see him. They were only letting in 2 at a time, and all but one of his kids were there, and with his four sisters and his mother, of course, I could not see him. They were only letting in immediate family. I told them that was OK as a) I was there to support my cousins and aunt and b) he needed them more than me.
I did pray that God would meet him where he was. I don't know for sure his relationship with God but he does have sisters and a mother who are all very strong in their faith. One of his sisters is in seminary to become a Lutheran pastor. I do believe that even if someone is not saved that God can show himself real to them when they are in that state.
Anyway, tonight when I called they said that he was not a patient and suggested that I talk to others in the family. Of course I know what that means, but I will not call at this hour. So I will make a call tomorrow to see how I can help. Cousins (daughters of cousins, actually) have been on the family web site, but nobody has posted.

Got the official e-mail from my cousin. Services are Wednesday so I am taking the day off ... and the good news is that the son in the military made it there 10 minutes before the machines and meds could no longer sustain him ... God is good!

Thanks. I guess I should just say that some disturbing things are coming to light that is making me change how I had viewed this. To make a very long story short, it is looking a lot less like suicide and a lot more like something more sinister .... Please pray for justice to be done.

In one of the birth announcements for Josie, my dad, mom (who is remarried) AND my step-dad all had the same last name. They don't--my mom and step-dad have the same name but of course my dad has a different last name! Austin's aunt was mad and had them correct it and re-run it. But I still think it's funny!
