Hi everybody.

I hope those of you in the US had a great Thanksgiving. Did any of you brave the sales the day after?

I had a visit from one of the pastoral care team last night. A lovely retired Welshman that I've known for years. It was good to see him. We told him about our need for a car. He said that he'd heard not so long ago that somebody was giving away their car as they could not afford to keep it running. We don't know if that car is available, but he's going to check it out. I like this guy. If he sees a need, he pursues it. He's a really loyal, faithful man. He came to see how I'm doing and also just to tell me that I'm missed at church. Really sweet.

.... very cool, Trish!

We had a fun Thanksgiving... we all went to brother-in-laws house.... he's a fantastic cook and we all ate way too much!

He has a few kitties.... so we like to go there and get our 'kitty' fix!

It was a fun day.

Glad that you had a fun day Rach, and cool beans on the kittens too!

Hi Di, I am happy that you were able to get your car fixed ok!

Hi Trish, didn't do any shopping at all on Friday, but almost shopped on Saturday instead.

Heya, Mike, isn't it time to change your sign again?

Hey Ruthie, I did try uploading my mug shot a couple of weeks ago, but it didn't work though. I will likely change it to a piece of flair from Facebook once I figure out how to save such things, lol!

Hey Darcy, glad you had a good birthday!

Hi Joy and Trishy!

Hey everybody.

So, do you get Monday off for Thanksgiving as well? I'm totally mixed up about the whole Thanksgiving thing.

Somebody mentioned in Darcy's thread that 3 people were killed in the after Thanksgiving sales. I know a couple of years ago, in an after Christmas sale, somebody got hurt when people trampled them to get into a store. That's bad enough, but when people get killed just because they went shopping, that's just ridiculous.

Di, any news about your car?

Ruthie, glad you got meat for the winter. My youngest brother used to go wild pig hunting with his brother in law. I know people hunt meat, but it still seems strange to me. I'm so used to going to the store to buy meat, not hunt it down and kill it.

Hi Trish, Thanksgiving is a 4 day weekend usually, unless you work in retail, then you only get Thursday off. What most busninesses do is actually trade the day another Holiday for the day after Thanksgiving instead. People all go back to work on Monday. Clear as mud? I hope that helps explain things.

Actually, a lot of people work Friday after Thanksgiving. I used to but since they cut my hours, I have EVERY Friday off.

Didn't do any shopping, however. Finances are so tight I don't know if I will.

The car is fixed ... fuel pump. I have now replaced every component of that car's fuel system. Of course now it needs an oil change and a tire. It never ends ....

greetings all........I hope everyone had a wonderful thanksgiving weekend.......I know I did.

Yesterday was a nasty day outside so I decided to treat the girls to not just one movie but two.

About 40 minutes away is a theatre which shows first run movies for 1.50. They had both Mad...escape to Africa and Bolt.......since we were driving so far we decided to make it a day event and watch both movies, with a little shopping between films.........

The girls had a blast.......and even with unlimited popcorn/soda the day cost less then 25.00....yeah......

Bolt was cute but I did not like the other movie......would not recommend it.

Did everyone else have a great weekend?

My weekend was ok. Wasn't feeling good Friday night at all, but felt better on Saturday. I went and saw the movie Four Christmases, which was nice for the most part. Right now I am just sitting here relaxing.

Howdy, y'all.

Mike, well, what can I say, a dog with branches on his head? ROFL, not what I expected! But a refreshing change....

Trish, sounds like you had a nice visit, hope he can find a car for you! One thing about hunting, it makes me appreciate the meat more. I think (and this is just my humble opinion) that if more folks were able to raise their own food, like chickens and gardens and such, and realize what goes into making that sanitary plastic wrapped item in the store, not only would they appreciate it more, but they might pay more attention to the drugs the animal is fed....but that's another whole topic. I'll get off my soapbox now.

Di, I feel your pain. I've put almost $400 into my truck in the last month, and it's still not right. The steering is messed up, which makes icy days like today such a joy for driving! Fridays off, if you must have time off, is cool...I got stuck with Thursdays. It's a bummer, I can get going on a project, but then I have to stop everything and go back in for a stinking Friday, it's just a major interruption.

And yes, the coffee phrase brings back many memories, and makes me wonder 'where are they now' on a few people.

Today I'm at work, getting glares from my coworker because I'm coughing and sneezing. (And trying very hard to keep it in my own cubicle!) But my boss isn't here today, and he makes such a big deal about only one of us being gone at a time because we have such a tiny department, that I felt compelled to come in. I fell sick Wednesday night, and spent the next four days in bed. I missed Thanksgiving dinner, lunch with my brother and his wife, church, and everything else. My other brother picked up my daughter and took her to the family dinner, so at least she brought me a plate of leftovers, but it's not the same as being there with everyone. It's such fun when DD brings home germs from school!

Well, back to work. Maybe if I can make good progress by lunch, I can go home early.

No hugs for anyone this time.

Ruthie

Virtual hugs don't spread germs, Ruthie!

Did you at least get Friday off as a paid holiday? My co-worker gets a different day off ... she thought we weren't allowed to have Fridays off ... I told them that my boss suggested it because of my work on the church pages which are turned in Thursdays.

Weekend from heck is officially over ... Roomie was in the hospital over a medical emergency that arose Wednesday night ... even seeing family members 25 miles away doesn't save me from hearing them complain about each other ... and financial issues have come to a head ... I've gotten REALLY out of whack on how I pay my bills, so prayers for wisdom and favor would be appreciated.

No hugs? No hugs!! Well, that's just dithpicable! *Trish tries her best Daffy Duck voice*.

((((((((((((((((((((EVERYBODY))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

I've been saying to John for a while now that I'd like to grow vegetables in pots. I've never grown vegetables before. Bailey would trample them. No point putting them in the ground. John just says that it's much cheaper to buy them at the supermarket.

Ok, here we go.....((((((((((((BIG HUGS FOR EVERYONE))))))))))))

Oh, I don't know, Trish, once you grow your own vegetables, you'll not want the supermarket ones anymore. Even if you just get a couple of tomato plants going on the patio, the yield can be amazing, and the taste is even better! That's one of the best things about summer, a fresh, ripe, juicy tomato right off the vine, still warm from the sun, mmmm!

Di, I pray wisdom and grace for you my friend. It's so hard to keep up with bills and everything!

Today was an 'off-work' day, and instead of being good and going through the stacks of stuff I needed to take care of....I goofed off and went geocaching. (High tech scavenger hunt, check it out at www.geocaching.com). Khaansecrated1 (Kathy) got me started on it, and it's loads of fun. But I did still run some errands; spent over forty dollars on plexiglass! Who knew it was that expensive! But I got four sheets of it cut to cover my basement windows, kind of like storm windows, in an effort to keep out the mice and the cold. Hopefully I'll get them put up tomorrow afternoon.

I also had to get a ride home from town, and then back to town (thank God I have a friend to help me!) to pick up my pick up truck...yes, it had to be worked on again. Almost 250,000 miles on it, and it's showing it's age. When I picked it up, the mechanic couldn't tell me how much I owed, because his computer broke down...yet he gave me the truck anyways. I love my small town! He knows I'll stop in some time next week...it's so nice to have a trusting relationship like that.

My Mom came over and we had an honest to goodness sit down family together dinner Wednesday night before my daughter's band concert. The concert was great; tomorrow I have to take her to a town about 40 miles away for the solo and ensemble contest, and a couple of weeks ago she played in the honors band festival. Pretty cool!

It's late and tomorrow comes early, so g'night all! Take care and God bless.

Ruth

Hey, y'all!

It's time for my finals. I've got one on my computer that has to be sent back by Friday afternoon. I have one on Tuesday morning, 8 am, and one Thursday night at 6. Oh, and a short (7 page) paper to write. To think I used to worry about writing something that short.

Went to a gathering for those who have done the Walk to Emmaus......music, food, worship service with communion and candlelight. I'm feeling very content and happy right now, finals or not.

Hey Darcy! Is it coming up to 8.15am over there? It's about 10.15pm over here.

Ruthie, my parents used to buy some vegetables, but they grew some too. Tomatoes, spinach, rhubarb, cabbage and all sorts of other things.

Things are pretty quiet here. Just a couple more cards to write, some presents to wrap and I'm ready for Christmas. We've invited some people to our place for Christmas night as we don't like seeing people spending Christmas alone. Out of all the people we've invited, we'd be very surprised if any of them came. Joan is going to ask one of our pastors tomorrow if she knows of any new people to the fellowship who would appreciate some company for Christmas. We all know what it's like to be without friends and family at Christmas. We don't want to see anybody else going through all of that .

You're welcome, Mike!

We got our Christmas tree last night. A beautiful six foot scotch pine now resides in a corner of our living room. It's still naked, but hey, one step at a time, right?

I'm a little stir crazy tonight. Normally I spend the morning in the office, and the afternoon in the field. Today due to weather and paperwork issues, I was stuck inside All Day. In a Cubicle. ARGH!! Overheated stale air, fake light, no window....

Five inches of snow last night, rain and sleet all day today, with another inch or so of snow, and probably several inches yet tonight. Winter is here! Now I just need a chance to ski!!

Finals, Darcy? *shudders* How well I remember those days, and how glad I am not to be there anymore, LOL! Hope you do well on all of them!

Yep, home grown veggies are the best...I have corn and beans and blueberries in the freezer, and a lot of dried peppers and onions. I grow the tomatoes, and all the rest of it I get at the Amish farm down the road. Good stuff!

Well, we're putting on the original Grinch movie, and getting ready to put lights on the tree, so I'll say goodnight.

Blessings and hugs to all!

Hey everybody.

I've never had anything apart from a fake tree. Here we don't have tree lots to go to to pick out our favourite tree. If we did, I think I'd find it weird. Fake trees are all I know.

((((((((((((((((((RUTHIE))))))))))))))))))))))))) Just cuz.

I can't believe Christmas is so close!

Hey, Trish, thanks, you made my day! Back at ya: ((((((((((Trish))))))))))) Is it getting hot there yet? Have you been feeling well enough to get to church?

Yep, Christmas is SO close! I have one more day to get through at work, and them I Am Free!! Until after the first of the year. I'm almost giddy at the thought of not having to drive down to the office for a whole three weeks. This is my favorite time of year, being home to enjoy Christmas cookie baking, tree decorating, present wrapping and late night jigsaw puzzle sessions with my daughter in front of the fireplace.

Di, what's happening in your neck of the woods? Car doing ok? Just had a new windshield put in my truck today. A small nick suddenly became a huge crack when we got the cold snap last weekend.

Hmmm, haven't heard anything 'bout Joise the Brave lately, or from Tracy, "Mrs. Above All", etc., where is everyone?

Off to bed..just one more day to freedom!

Ruthie

Hmmmmm ... interesting day in my world.

I've been dealing with the host from H-E-double hockey sticks. It was a party switch which totally went awry. She put through two checks for my jewelry show after I told her specifically that my whole show was on hold due to a) a family financial crisis and b) my car breaking down the day after I drove 75 miles each way to her house. (Coincidence? I think not.) So she took the largest orders and submitted them without my knowledge and consent, and now is tracking down a refund.

Anyway, when I asked her, before all this went down, how her show was going and she mumbled something about having another order but not being sure where it was, she readily agreed to switch to a December PC show. So I find out yesterday that she's not submitting payment for the other order she gave me, and the other three orders are being canceled because everybody was tired of the delay that SHE CAUSED.

Struggled with taking the high road on this one ...

All's well that ends reasonably well ... I have enough orders for a show despite her!

And ...leaving town tomorrow afternoon for a "special event" I earned. Coming back in time to celebrate my roomate's 40th birthday. Heading out after work to find ingredients for a triffle I'm making for him ...

There was a blurb in the larger regional paper about our place looking at "further cost saving opportunities" come January. Ugh. For random fun, I crunched the numbers and found that I'd be making more than unemployment if I was earning minimum wage. It's skeery around these parts!

Di, that's awful, the mess with the lady and her orders. Such a shame you're missing out on orders because of her.

Ruthie, it hasn't been too bad weatherwise here. A cool start to summer. However, this weekend the temperatures are meant to be in the high 80s and low to mid 90s. I'm not looking forward to the weekend. If I can, maybe I'll go and hide in a shopping mall somewhere just so I can be in air conditioning all day. I love the freezer section in supermarkets when days are really hot.

Haven't felt well enough to get to church. I'm up in time to have breakfast with John, but then after that, I just bomb and need to go back to bed.

Hey everybody. It's been really quiet around here.

Are you all ready for Christmas? I can't believe a week from now it will be all over.

Are you all going to be with your families for Christmas? Doing anything special?

I've got some gifts to wrap and John and Joan's cards to write, but that's all.

Not sure what's happening Christmas Day. We've invited some people over to spend Christmas with us, but we haven't heard back from them yet.

One of my penpals has told me that she's thinking of calling me for Christmas. She's from NY state. That would be good.

Are there any traditions in the land down under which are uniquely from there?

I'm alone in the house, which is good in a way. Roomie is in the hospital again. I do hope that this time they do something that works. That's what's life's like in the bipolar express.

I have some cookies I need to get around to baking and maybe spend a few of my last dollars on some gifts.
