As usual, come November 4th, I can not decide who to vote for. The Democrats support certain Christian issues, and the Republicans support others. But none of the candidates support all of the Christian values that are important to me. I wish there were a third party candidate that truly represented all of our Christian values. I assume he or she would do very well.

I don't know JefferyT, if a person only wants to vote for someone with whom they agree 100%; then they would probably have to run for the office themselves.

Did you support Huckabee in the primaries?

Thanks

I don't think there could be a 100% Christian candidate because the goals of politics and Christianity are too far separated.

However, I am really struggling with this election. People have become so polarized, and I'm getting really tired of all the spouted rhetoric. I'm tired of the Republican party being the "Christian" party by default because of the abortion issue. While this is an important issue for me, it's just not enough to get my vote. The Democrats backing of social programs seems more like a Christian attitude to me, but that is dismissed by most Christians as foolishness. I don't get it. There are plenty of things about the Democratic party that I don't like, but I could stack up a pretty even list for the Republicans, too- with the biggest strike being the state of the country right now.

...I'm still trying to wrap my mind around the concept of a 50% or 75% Christian.

I'm giving the OP the benefit of the doubt and guessing he means a candidate who represents Christian values first, as opposed to the values of a political party, not a perfectly Christ-like person.

Unfortunately they are in politics for the politics, not the religion so you will probably not ever find a 100% Christian candidate who gets the nomination from either party. Also, they would probably not do very well, I would tend to think they would probably be weak in all the areas that matter more then whether or not they are Christian.

Since you will never find a 100% Christian person, meaning someone who always acts within the will of God, it is not surprising that no candidates meet the criteria either.

No one is perfect, regardless of whether they are a politician or a zookeeper.

It's hard enough to find someone in a family, much less a local church, this forum, or candidates running for political office, that we agree with 100%. I think 60 or 70% would be cause for great jubilation.

I was thinking(always dangerous)for all this hoopla, the 'eternal continuum' already knows and time will continue. Reality tends to confuse civics, tradition and my 'ideal'. When I expect '100%' agreement with me I'll be sorely disappointed. When I allow His 'flashed of conscience' to manifest themselves in my life experience; those are 100%!

Reminds me of an old Calvin and Hobbes strip. Calvin got a 70%, thus a C on a test, deeming him "average" and goes on a rant about how if the government ran at a 70%, we'd be ecstatic, and how he refused to settle for anything less than an A.

To be fair, 100% Christian to you might not be 100% Christian to me. Within Christianity, our morals and values still have leeway. What you are looking for, as RC alluded to, was someone with 100% agreement to you, and you just aren't going to find it.

Should we remove our WWJD bumper stickers on the way to the polls?

Actually, I'm under the impression that anyone that actually has bumper stickers just shouldn't be allowed to vote in the first place.

To me a bumper sticker is a shortcut to saying, "Hey, let's never hang out."

My way will not work for everyone, but I am literally avoiding everything I can that has to do with politics. I don't trust anyone to be unbiased. In the couple of days before the election, I will visit the League of Women Voters site and look at their list of candidate issues and decide what I agree with.

Are you confident of them being unbiased? Cause that would be awesome to see something like that.

The League of Women Voters guide is the least biased publication I've seen. (I am actively seeking similar guides, if anyone knows of any.) They just have the candidates answer the same five questions and they publish them. End of story. Here are the questions:

GLOBAL CLIMATE CHANGE: What, if anything, do you believe the federal government
should do to control global climate change?
COST OF HEALTH CARE: What should be done at the federal level, if anything, to combat
the high cost of health care?
ECONOMIC DISPARITY: What, if anything, should the federal government do about the
growing economic disparity between the middle class and the well-to-do?
EDUCATION: What, if anything, should the federal government do to create the world’s best
educational system for all children in America?
U.S. STRATEGY - RISING GLOBAL POWERS: What should the U.S. strategy be towards
rising global powers like Russia and China?

No, it's not comprehensive, but it is straightforward.

I agree with you. I honestly don't know who to vote for. I feel that if I vote for the Democratic or the Republican candidate, I will be going against my conscious. I do realize that their are others who are running for the Presidential office but I actually haven't done research on anyone.

I'll vote for the person that realizes the Federal Government can't do anything right and should stick to only the few things it's authorized to do in the Constitution.

I fear a Christian Nation. If your faith has to be legislated to make everybody conform to it then you're a failure.

Not to get too OT, but I read an article recently (on wired.com IIRC) in which somebody described this idea as sort of a self-fulfilling prophecy within the Republican party. Consciously or not, the distaste and disdain for government leads to poor execution and management of government, which then reaffirms the bad feelings towards government. IIRC, his argument was that if we'd do government right, maybe it wouldn't be so bad

The author was admittedly liberally biased, but it was an interesting point.

Well Republicans do claim to hate government. Would you hire a lawyer that hates the legal system to represent you? Or a CPA that hates accounting to do your books? Why do we keep hiring people who hate government and expecting government to work. I firmly believe you get what you hire.... I think there is merit to this argument.
