Calea37 -> A Question for Pastors (10/9/2008 11:46:18 AM)

I have a question for all of you pastors out there:

As a Pastor, do you find it offensive and/or disrespectful if a member of the congregation calls you by your first name instead of "Pastor so-and-so"?

Lycea -> RE: A Question for Pastors (10/9/2008 2:12:23 PM)

No. I think that titles tend to puff people up. For those raised in the generation where they would have a problem calling me by my first name, I tell them to please call me pastor ______, But that is for their benefit not mine. And I don't allow people to call me reverend, and it bugs me to no end when the paper or other publication puts it in there as Rev._______, because I think that only God is to be revered and reverenced.

rcjames -> RE: A Question for Pastors (10/9/2008 4:21:53 PM)

Absolutely not.

I am called by all kinds of names; Pastor, R.C., Tiny, or even "Hey You", I am never offendid as I am just one of the Saints with a little differnt calling than most.

Thanks
RC

My husband doesn't get offended at all. He lets people call him whatever they want to call him.

Nickname from high school for being biggest guy on football team; name has followed me for over 50 years.

I think that Pastors who insist on fromal titiles when being addressed just need to get over themselves.

Thanks
RC

RC, I agree with you.

Thanks, all, for your replies.

Call me whatever you like, I'm just glad to see you in church worshipping God.

donkesner -> RE: A Question for Pastors (10/14/2008 1:43:28 AM)

I'm glad we have come to a point in ministry where we don't feel we have to be referred to by a title. I have never liked titles. My congregation calls me by my first name, or by brother, or pastor. And we like it that way

I am actually offended if they insist on calling me "Pastor" for I view Jesus as our only True Pastor/Shepherd. [:)]

I much rather prefer people call me by my first name and nothing more. I am not above anyone nor do I float two inches off the ground.

Not at all.

I agree with you about the title "reverend", although I don't make an issue of it. Most people mean absolutely no offense by it.

I am not a pastor; but I can offer a little wisdom...

In the last congregation I was in I called some members who had a good word in them pastor, and just recently I have found out that those are now ordained pastors

Generally its like when a cell phone goes off in a group of people, eveyone at the same time looks to see if it was theirs,

The same thing when a group of pastors are gathered together, if you don’t use their name they all respond at once...
I get a kick at doing that sometimes at Church [:D]...

But generally by the word of God ...calling them pastor might just keep them there... only by what I have seen.[;)]
