My most memorable dates are ones that were with the most memorable company I kept. One Valentines Day in Sacramento there was a concert we wanted to see so we took a hot air balloon ride and landed right in the parking lot of Arco Arena as people were starting to arrive. After the concert we went back to my house and listened to music out on my backyard patio while we slow danced until the wee hours of the morning. That was so much fun..

A picnic with someone special is 1,000 times better than an elegant dinner at a fancy restaurant any day of the week.

When we went to a park at night and got chased by the ducks into the water.

That was my birthday dinner too. Oy...

Hey, John. I remember long ago you told a story about the "dragon" y'all saw at the zoo... mind telling the story again? That was hilarious!

It is very important to keep yourself educated as to the latest advances in natural science. It is also very important to be able to test the gullibility level of your date. At the time this happened I was both very up to date and very convincing. M was a little less well informed and very gullible.

Very early in our marriage we went to the zoo in Milwaukee as part of a trip to see my family.

While there we went through the repitile house and saw the most amazing creature. It was a small lizard, about 12 inches long, called a water dragon.

M asked me why it was called a water dragon and being a good husband and a semi-educated naturalist I proceeded to tell her.

"You see the water dragon is from the swamps of Indonesia and like most lizards it swallows small stones to be used in it's gizzard to grind it's food. Due to the large amount of coal found in these swamps this lizard had to adapt to swallowing chunks of coal. As the coal was ground down in it's gizzard it would react with the digestive juices to produce a flammable gas. Follow me so far?"

And M, with rapt attention, said "yes"

"As you can imagine having a belly full of flammable gas would be uncomfortable so the water dragon learned to belch up the gas to relieve the pressure. It turns out that the gas is so flammable that when it contacts the oxygen in the atmosphere it erupts into flame. This makes it look like the lizard was breathing fire.

So they call it a water dragon because it lives in the water and breathes fire!"

M's eyes got real big and she was so excited. She said "Really? I've got to tell my dad about this"

I had her going for about 30 minutes on that one before reality set in with a "wait a minute" moment and a few hard slaps to my shoulder.

I was laughing my fool head off while she was yelling at me "I can't (slap) believe (slap) you did that (slap) to me! (slap)"

We laughed about that for years (or at least I did)

John, that's almost the same story that a man told me a few years ago. He really had me going about those sidehill gougers whose right legs were shorter than the left legs because they live on hills and through millions of years of evolution, their legs learned to adapt to living on the hills.( Sidehill Gougers ) I bought it 100%. I swear, years of bleaching my hair blonde did some permanent damage, lol.

hmm. i had two memorable dates

there is a private beach near my house that has benches and no overhead lights We went there and just looked at the moon dance off of the water.

I also had a date where we went to this fabulous retreat center with spectacular trails. It rained the whole time but I had a great time anyway because I love the rain.

John's story reminded me of one rather embarassing date.

I had just started going out with this guy and we went to one of those street-fairs in the town where he lived. He needed some cash, so we went to an ATM machine right in the middle of the fair. Now, it doesn't take much to embarass me in public. I like to quietly walk around the fairs, taking in the sights and smells, and just enjoying time chatting with each other and friends. That's what I expected. So, he goes up to the ATM machine, takes out his cash, and yells rather loudly, I WON!! I WON!! I was so embarassed I slapped him at least a couple of times.

My most memorable date was I had a boyfriend that really wanted to cook for me at his house. So he put on a movie and let me watched while he cooked a spaghetti dinner for us. When he was done he came and got me .... I walked down the hall with him to find a little table with candles and a plate of spaghetti .... it was so romantic .....

One Nov, during the first snow fall of the year, my boyfriend picked me up and we drove to a county park with a fire tower type structure, high enough to look down on the woods, pond and fields below........

He had packed several blankets, including two sleeping bags, and two thermos of hot chocolate...............

We climbed the tower.......to very top..........and watched the world transform from one covered in browns to one covered in white..........from a ugliness of a season ending to the beauty of a new one beginning...........

The snow flakes were big enough to catch and see their individual design........the sound of stillness, interrupted only occasionally by a word spoken or animal rustling in the woods...........

The first snow of the winter......is beautiful..........

Wow Joy, that is truly beautiful! So romantic, and I don't even care much for snow!

Those sidehill gougers sound just like hill cows. When they bring the "hill cows" down into the flat pasture lands they get "lean beef".

LOL, Benelchi. You know I believe anything when it comes to cows....like brown milk comes from brown cows and white milk from white cows...and all that...lol

Heh. My most memorable date was definitely not the best, and happened more than 15 years ago. It started out great- my bf at the time had been helping someone take care of their property, and a very nice property it was. Several acres with a gazebo next to a stream. One day said bf took me to have a nice picnic lunch by the stream. It was shaping up to be a wonderful day until we found the hole in the ground that led to.... a yellowjacket nest. Everything would have been fine except bf had the great idea to plug the hole with a rock... which didn't work. I was far closer to the house than he so you think I would have been safe as I made my way to get inside, but I was wearing a brightly colored shirt. So, of course they left him alone and all came after me. After being stung 8+ times, I ended up in the emergency room on an antihistamine IV. After getting discharged, bf thought we should go see a movie. Thing is, one of those stings was (yup, you guessed it) on my bum, so sitting through a movie wasn't happening...

I've never had a date, a dried prune, or any other type of fruit like that. I prefer oranges.

Very funny!

My most memorable date (in a good way) was on Valentine's Day a few years ago. He showed up at my door with a beautiful bouquet of tulips (he thought roses were too predictable and I agreed) and after a very nice lunch he presented me with a framed poem he had written for me. Then, we went to a jazz concert, had a very nice dinner and then walked around a lake. What a perfect day!

Hey, hoosiers love cookies ... some of the most memorable dates (days in history on the calendar) are when my mom would make us snicker doodles....

On a serious note (which is actually C#) I remember one of my last dates 3 yrs ago. The lady I was dating made a picnic dinner and we laid out a blanket on the ground near a lake. We had the most quiet, relaxing time and it was honestly one of the most thoughtful things anyone has done for me.

Speaking of cookies... oops, wrong thread.

That reminds me of a few memorable dates on the beach... some of those included a picnic dinner. Almost all included shooting stars.
