I am... sorta. I have my DD's password - she gave it to me so I could see her pictures and who her friends are in college. I never write anything, just look. I'm content with that.

I have one because of dd and I like it for the most part, but since you asked, is it rude to not befriend someone, especially someone's kid? I thought it would be fun, but I really don't care to view my some of my friends kids sites.

I get a lot of requests from people I went to school (HS, College) with that I never much to do with. Sometimes I add them, and sometimes I don't. Once in awhile I'll go through a purge and "unfriend" those who have no current place in my life (even memories). It's nice to reconnect, but to keep that constant connection? *shrugs* I dunno.

That makes sense. My facebook and myspace are pretty pathetic looking as it is though...to do a 'housecleaning' would make it look even worse.

i've read multiple "news" articles where many wanted to be left alone from their friend's parents as they want privacy (not everyone seeing their drunken photos?) ... if they were to send you a request, i don't see a problem, but generally initiating the request might lead to awkwardness on their part ...

I am friends with my son's and daughter's friends on myspace, but I don't comment except on their birthdays to wish them well or if I have something positive to say about a new picture.

I look at it as an opportunity to encourage.

Only once have I ever made a negative comment, and that was actually before I had my own page!

My comment was "Has your mom seen your myspace?". Nuff said.

it might be a good thing to be friends with them. keep an eye on what your kids friends are into and it will give you and idea of what your kids are into..

What these kids don't know is that someday, if they are looking for work or to volunteer someplace, is how much of this old "news" will be available if they get Googled. For example, do you really want some future boss to find our how whinny you can be? Same thing for our posts here! Not implying that we are whining

This may sound odd, but I think God has used Facebook to do a good deal of healing in my life. I've been on Facebook for several years--prematurely, because hardly anyone I knew was on there--but the past three months or so there have been many people join that I knew in high school.

My parents uprooted me during freshman year and moved me to a strange town that had a lot of kids in it that weren't at all interested in being friends with me. It's a long story, but suffice it to say that I spent four miserable years there, all on the fringes, without very many friends and for whatever reason, I had been holding onto a lot of hurt about that ever since.

Well, like I said, a few months ago some of these same people started appearing on Facebook and there was an alumni group for my high school graduating class. I was horrified! It brought back so many bad memories! I had to stop and pray that I could let go of being bitter. (MySpace never made me do that. ) I started getting friend requests from my old classmates and accepting them. Unbelievably, slowly but surely, they started sending me messages that say things like "I always wanted to know you better, but never got a chance" and "I hope we can get to know each other now, since you didn't live there very long" and all manner of nice things that they remembered about me that I don't remember at all.

Now I am actually considering going to a reunion to see these guys again and I really want to. If it wasn't for Facebook...

I enjoy Facebook and I've reconnected with lots of old friends. I never found anybody on MySpace. And Facebook's more fun and laid out better, I think. But I can't post my Facebook name here (it's my real name)...that's my place to connect with IRL friends. This is a bit more anonymous and I need that sometimes too. I only really know one person IRL here on CW and that's because her name was pretty obvious. Maybe mine is too to people who know me, I don't know.

cool story stella.

I am on as well. Love it.

It does make me wonder if part of the success of facebook et al, comes from a relationship starved society. hummm....

Not necessarily because I'm on Facebook with a lot of people who live far away that I've not seen in years....it's amazing to chat with guys or girls I cheered with 20 years ago (yikes!) and it hardly seems like we've skipped a beat. But I'm also on Facebook with a lot of people I see nearly every day. We joke and play online and then when we see each other we joke about what someone said or did on Facebook...I'm getting to know people (other moms at school for instance) a lot better than I'd have a chance otherwise.

I guess it's how you use it. I'm just talking to people I know on Facebook, not out meeting new people. That actually makes me uncomfortable. That's why I like CW as well but see them as completely different and separate.

I'm on it. There are a ton of college friends there (let's not get into high school).

It's a little awkward sometimes because it's hard to know the line between people you liked and talked to and people you knew but didn't really talk to and people who's names you remember but can't remember them ever caring to have a conversation with you.

I don't like to be collected into a huge network of friends who mean nothing.

I'd be willing to incorporate some CW folks but not sure who I'd ask.

I'm on it, and I try to keep my friends down to people I actually know. Sometimes it is hard to decide who should be friends and who shouldn't be, but I love reading people's status updates and staying in touch with people I've lost track of over the years. I just got a friend request today from someone I haven't seen in probably fifteen years. I have very close friends on there and a few friends that I struggle to remember who they are.

I think it's good for parents to be on there if their children are to keep an eye on what they are doing online.
