My sincere apologies for getting caught up in the heat of the story; I like to be right, but when I am wrong, I try to be as publicly and completely wrong as possible so as to leave no doubt. No excuses, just wrong. Well, to forgive is divine - not that I've ever done anything that warranted an apology. Ahem... Anyhow, once this election is over (no matter who wins) can we all bury our politically-charged hatchets, and please make peace over a hockey game (I prefer the Blackhawks ), and a few extra large pizzas and round of drinks? As some of you know, I prefer my Pepsi with crushed ice and two green olives as garnish

THIS helped to inflame the story from the get go - McCain Communications Director Gave Reporters Incendiary Version quote:
John McCain's Pennsylvania communications director told reporters in the state an incendiary version of the hoax story about the attack on a McCain volunteer well before the facts of the case were known or established -- and even told reporters outright that the "B" carved into the victim's cheek stood for "Barack," according to multiple sources familiar with the discussions. Not a real smart move on this fellow's part. A political professional in a battleground state let his imagination get the better of him. His boss will not be pleased. Close races can be lost on simple dumb mistakes.

This woman should be ashamed of herself. ("This has wasted so much time. ... It's just a lot of wasted man hours," Assistant Police Chief Maurita Bryant said at a briefing.) And, the thread's name was repulsive. I don't mean this as an attack, but it's unfair because it implies Obama's campaign was behind this - when it was not. The creator of the thread has apologized and the tone of conversation has calmed down, which is good of course. What is upsetting (even though I am not a McCain supporter) is that John McCain and Sarah Palin themselves spoke to this woman. McCain and Palin were most probably genuinely concerned about her well-being and took time out of their busy schedules to contact her directly. They were in all likelihood appreciative of her efforts as a volunteer - and now it turns out they wasted their time and sympathies on somebody who LIED.
