One of my favorites is the piano intro to "I Can, I Have, I Will" by the Perrys

here is some others He's In Control -- Austin's Bridge (((just some smooth sweet acoustic picking with a nice sound)) Card Carrying Christian -- Del Way ((power hard driving country sound)) Are You Ready To Go -- Driven Qt. ((smooth sound music wise)) Midnight Cry -- GC (( I think first time ever heard almost classical sound to a SG song)) Trumpet Of Jesus by Imperials or Hallelujah Heavenly Horn by Cumberland Boys with Gospel Brass (( some of the best horn work ever heard imo in SG)) Shake Hands With A Poor Boy -- Kingsmen ((simple smooth licks played there)) I'd Rather Be An Old Time Christian -- Kingsmen ((banjo's rock)) Something's Going On In The Graveyard -- Crabb Family (((smooth harmonica playing))

Just reading the title of this forum made me think of the intro to and turnarounds within the Poet Voices' recent "In the Center of the Father's Will". I love that joyful sounding brass. I also like the kind of haunting intro of "Embrace of Grace" from the Kingdom Heirs.

Like you said, the into will raise chill bumps, and the way they harmonize is amazing. It's a very underrated great song.

JHullender, You're as "solid" as they come on the bass guitar. Do you remember John Knotski? (spelling?) That name struck me a while back. I would like to see some of the "old timers" again. I ran into Frank Mills (former bass player for the Hoppers) a couple of years ago. I also see Todd Nelon from time to time. It would be cool to have a "Reunion" or "Homecoming" for just musicians. Maybe a Meet and Eat kinda setting. I don't miss the traveling but it would be cool to sit down with some of the guys we would see and hang out with from years gone by. I don't keep up with the SG industry. Too much to keep up with! My buddy Tim Rackley (The Old Paths) keeps me up to speed with what I need to know. Retired Bass Player

We Shall See Jesus by the Cathedrals - I love the piano run where the song goes from minor to major.

To post #5 about the Banjo turn around from Kingsmen Beutiful Home. What ever happened to Sam Crowe the young man that played that. He was never at any Kingsmen reunions or ever saw where he was with anyone else

I love the piano licks in the Cathedral's recording of "Wedding Music". I also really like the piano turn-around in their "Oh Come Along". Also like the musical intro to Talley Trio's "The Answer Is Christ". And finally, the violins in the Isaacs version of "It Is Well With My Soul" really make that one something special.

I like Lari Goss orchestrations, but I'm also a big fan of countrified tracks. "Jesus Is Coming Soon" by the Happy Goodmans (from Set Your Sails) comes to mind in the latter category.

retbassplayer thanks for the kind words. Hey come out dec. 5th to see Jay and Jonathan again at Tiger Creek elementary. your right it would be cool to see the former musicians in gospel music. we are a dying breed. seems everyone is using tracks now days and I how found myself guilty of that, it's just easier and alot less headaches. It would be great to see guy's like Kerry Huckabee(hinsons) or James Freeze (hemphills) I know Mark Fain (formerly Gold City) is Ricky Scaggs band mngr and Barry Scott was singing tenor for Doyle Lawson. Man I have not seen those guy's in years. You mentioned John Knoski, the greates Drummer I have every played with ,SOLID !!!

Oh, i also loved the intro to That Day At Calvary by the Cathedrals. Roger Bennett was the man. I patterned my style after him, Anthony Burger and Stan Whitmire. All incredible pianists... ------------------------------------------------------- Southern Gospel Piano - Christmas Music! http://davidwebsterhome.com/Music

Roger certainly had a way of adding a "brightness" (for want of a better term) without overplaying or cluttering the sound, with his piano licks and interludes on so many of the Cathedrals and L5 songs. He was one of the best in the business.
