Note: I rarely listen to the radio so I will not have to suffer through the implementation of my ideas.

I agree, after Thanksgiving would be fine. I love Christmas music, but sometimes songs get over played and I don't want to get to the point where I'm tired of it. With me, that happens sometimes with every day music. I try to mix it up a bit so I can appreciate what I'm listening to.

I agree with the day after Thanksgiving. My favorite Christmas music is J.S. Bach and Handel with TSO, the Chipmunks and Reliant K thrown in the mix!
Now when should stores be allowed to sell Christmas decorations? It seems they start on July 5th anymore!  But that's for a whole different thread!

LOL. Actually I'm kinda a Christmas geek and keep track of this sort of thing. Its actually gotten later in recent years. I remember a few years ago I saw the first Christmas stuffs at Walmart in late August. Since then it has gradually gotten later. This year I saw the first Christmas stuffs in mid October, which is downright reasonable. The really funny thing is that Walmart put out a press release claiming that they were starting early with Christmas this year.

Back to Christmas music, if I ran a radio station I would start the day after Thanksgiving with a 50-50 Christmas music - regular music split for that day, if not mostly Christmas music. This would be designed to appeal to the "Black Friday" shoppers as they travel from store to store in search of bargains. Throughout the rest of the weekend I would play a good bit of Christmas music but not as much. That Monday I'd fall back to occasional Christmas song and slowly build it back up to a 50-50 split.
On Chrismas Eve at noon I'd start my 36 hours of Christmas. I love listening to that on Christmas Eve. I would have listeners call in (either live or previously) Christmas memories to serve as bumber segments between songs. No ads except to promote my station. This isn't an original iea of course, a local station does it but they don't have the Christmas memories anymore. Oh yeah and I'd have NORAD Santa updates also and hourly news breaks focusing on Christmas themed news.

Thanks. Sadly I have found that road in my life to be permanently closed off. I'd love to do it though. Closest I got was programming my personal Internet based Live365 station (only costed $10 a month  ). And a My Space playlist.

Did you used to DJ in your younger years? I did through the 1980's to early 90's? But alas, like you, my life went a different direction than the music industry. I don't buy as much as I used to, but thank God for Napster!
My brother-in-law is breaking into music! He does positive rap and hip-hop under the moniker Kapital D. Last time I talked to him he was trying to get his music into Disney films!

Not even that, I would have loved to though.

I agree with the other posters that the day after Thanksgiving would be ideal. I do know however, that most stations that do Christmas music or go "all Christmas" generally do so right on or about Veteran's Day instead. 
BTW, there is even a station in St. Louis that is all Christmas we I post. Basically they decided to dump the old format and are stunting (that is a radio term for a temporary format) and will debut a new format next year instead.

Is it called stunting because the format is intended to get attention to the station (the format probably will not have long term viability like playing Zeppelin 24-7 as a local Tampa station did); the station hoping that it will make people curious on what the new format will be?
Is this station trying to get attention or just trying to fill time until the new year when its new format will be ready/ Just curious.

December 15th. Ten days before Christmas is plenty. However, I would continue with Christmas music through January 1st. Most stations around here abruptly stop the Christmas music Dec. 26th.

Interesting point. When do y'all think radio stations should stop with the Christmas music. Or more to the point, when are you no longer wanting to hear it? When the listeners don't want to hear it anymore is when they should stop (all good busineses listen to their customers). Personally after December 25th I don't want to listen to it anymore. Maybe that's just me or maybe not.

Before one station that had been a CCM station flipped to "oldies" a few years back (where I live, we have oldies-radio overload), they would play Christmas music until New Year's Eve.

The local Christian station here is playing Christmas music this weekend! I think they are doing it as an "anti-Halloween" statement, but as I don't really listen to that station, I actually can't say if that's their purpose or not. They do go "all Christmas/all the time" sometime in November and stay that way until a day or two after Christmas every year.
Personally, I tend to pull out the Christmas music on Thanksgiving day and usually listen mainly to that until Christmas day. I don't normally listen to it after Christmas.

The day after Thanksgiving. Here in Seattle, Spirit 105.3 does all Christian Christmas music and Warm 106.9 does all Christmas music the day after Thanksgiving.

I am not a big fan of Christian stations going all Christmas at all. Mostly because I am not familar with the Christmas music and Christian stations serve a niche audience to start with.

Because then you get these corny "smooth jazz" versions (or PERversions?) of classic familiar hymns and carols. Or bluegrass versions, styles totally out of sync with the original song. Guess I'll just have to crank up some Priest to drown it all out. \m/ \m/
