All of my kids knew how to climb over a baby gate by 16 months, and by 18 months had mastered the door knob cover. Quite annoying, really. I've had so many people recommend using a hook and eye to keep them in their rooms until they are fully asleep, but that isn't an option for us. My eldest two actually stayed put during naptime. The next two learned how things work by watching the first two. And we're wondering how early #5 will learn to do things .......

I am wondering if you have different shape/size/design baby gates over there, because there's no way either of our two (who were both tall for their age) could have climbed out over the gate in the doorway of their room.

Trying putting her diaper on backwards. It always worked for me at the Daycare.

Why can't a 2 yr old use the bathroom instead of wearing a diaper?

If she's taking the diaper off when it's messy, then there is a chance she is in the early stages of potty training.

I had to giggle at the memories your post brought back! My 1st ds used to not only take off his diap. at nap-time, but he would finger paint with his poo. We tried duct tape, onsies, nothing worked. Finally, as I was in tears cleaning up after another round, my dh and bil took footy pj's, cut off the feet and zipped the little guy up backwards and problem solved. And, BTW, He was nowhere near ready to potty trained, and he was still in his crib at that point...but when we did put him in a bed at 2 1/2, nap-time was OVER...just something to think about. Oh! And one more thing, that was only a few short years ago and we all look back at that time and laugh. It's one of my ds's fav "when you were a baby" stories, sends him into hysterics every time we tell it.

Awww, don't say that. My daughter will be born in January, and we're giving my then 21 month old a big boy bed, and the baby is getting the crib. Oh well, what will be is what will be.

scrappy, My husband and I went through exactly what you are a couple of years ago with our daughter. We tried everything. She burned us about 4 times with poo in the crib....Insane....It lead us to design sleepwear to address this common phase of toddler development. Take a look at what we have to offer at http://mookimoo.com. We've yet to find a little houdini that could get out of them. They stay put until you want them removed. It also makes it easier for diaper changes.
