Wow! there is an East bay area in CA?? I couldn't remember where you were, but I didn't think it possible that you would be in CA since all the ocean front is one the west side. Well, I guess I will have to get out a map and reacquaint myself. Well, CA is indeed quite a ways from here.

East Bay Area - not too far from San Francisco.

Cynthia,

Even if one did not recognize the sugar part of the odor, anyone would have noticed the burnt smell. It was quite obvious something had burned. It was warm enough to open the windows and I was able to get most of the smell gone before dh came home, which was good.

It was a waste of food though and that does bother me. I am trying not to have any flops because flops are expensive nowadays.

I made apple butter barbecue sauce tonight. Erin (our bbq sauce guru) has pronounced it weird, but a good kind of weird. I think it's pretty tasty.

I took the most obnoxious goat God ever created to the butcher today, along with another one who wasn't quite so obnoxious but went to fulfill his intended purpose nonetheless. That gives me 2 fewer mouths to feed over the winter. Of course one of the sheep is due to lamb any day now so I'll most likely have those 2 mouths right back again, but that goat had to go. I am convinced that God makes 'em like that so you don't mind sending them to the butcher.

Narnia,
I do not wish to argue. You will continue to hold the domestic diva place in my heart. And I am very sorry for the burnt apple butter. That must have been a big mess and a sad ending to what you expected to be delicious.

That does sound weird, Cindy. I would try it though.
I think you're right about certain animals being happily led to the butcher.

My 16yo nephew, JM, got his first deer today. He was thrilled and called his grandmother in joy. My sister was delighted. The man who took my nephew hunting is going to help him process the meat. This is the family whose father deserted them, took off with another woman and has left them in a very bad situation. They can really use the meat right now. JM told my mother that the man he went hunting with kept yelling, "Praise the Lord!" Of course we were all praying he would get a deer.

That is great he got a deer for the family!!! Awesome! Hmmm...maybe I'll make my honey some venison stew today. He's got a nasty cold. I called and cancelled his PT for today because I don't want him to get any older people sick with it. Somewhere in my brain, I think that the first few days of a cold are the most contagious and even if he is still sick, he should be able to go safely Friday, right? Cindy? Cynthia?

Rocky (our dog) has been missing over a week now. He broke off his lead. Normally when that happens, he either hangs around the house or we get a phone call from someone saying they have him. His tag has his name and our phone number. No call this time. I really hope he doesn't come back. That's awful, huh?

I have declared today a sick day. Everyone has a cold... except mom and AS. No kids allowed on computers today either. Except for David, he can work on his NaNoWriMo.

Last night my computer finally went to Kodak and the internet. I uploaded my pictures from the last 9-10 months. All the other pictures were printed at one time, so I should have all the pictures that I want now. If the computer goes bad, I won't care as much. It is running really, really, slow! I hope the boys Math will work, or at least work long enough for me to copy all their scores down because I wanted a grade for them this year.

For some reason I am really down about having to give Noah eye drops again. I don't know why I am letting it bother me, it isn't the end of the world. Maybe I am in deep concern that the drops won't work forever.

Donna--no, that isn't terrible. It's an additional stressor that you really don't need now. Hopefully he's hanging out at some farm and they are waiting for you to come find him.

Can't remember who said it, but burnt sugar does have a unique smell. BAD!!! I made pecan rolls for Thanksgiving one year. THe sugar sauce dripped out of the pan and onto the bottom of the oven. It was COLD, but I had to open all the windows and get fans going. Mind you, this was like at midnight???

Zoe--I don't care what they call it, but we have auger drillers, birthday candle and radiator noodles. Baby lasagna would certainly be called Mafia!

Ug... yet another day we are having trouble getting motivated. Trust me, the kdis are motivated. Just not to do school work.

Well, it is most decidedly a snow day here. We got quite the dumping last night, and it's expected to continue for 3 more days. The public schools are open, but busses are cancelled. All of the Christian schools have closed for the day. We have decided to declare our own snow day today. This morning we are watching Polar Express and making decorations (paper snowflakes for the windows, and a paper chain for when the tree goes up in a couple of weeks). This afternoon, the older two will get bundled up in snowsuits and go play outside for an hour or two while the lil ones have their naps. This evening will most likely be a game night accompanied by hot apple cider.

I love the first good snow (when I don't have to drive in it!)

Karaboo--you can KEEP your snow!!! Ds1 and I are going to try to get out for a bike ride this afternoon. Yah, it's cold--high of 30*--but the roads are clear! We did get a dusting this morning and roads were slick looking. Yesterday we did have flurries. Listening to the traffic report, they just said spin outs in the usual spots. Hey folks, remember how to drive in snow!

Yeah ... there have already been several vehicles put in the ditches, and even more multi-vehicle accidents. Why is it that people seem to think driving on snow and ice is identical to driving on a clear summer day???

Hi all! Haven't had a chance to get on here in a few days! But now I'm caught up!! We had a really busy weekend & then Sunday I started to get sinus drainage & by yesterday it was full blown! Luckily, dh was off & able to take dd to PE & ds to Karate. I called & begged off of MOPS today (didn't think the moms would want to turn their toddlers over to a woman coughing her head off! ). It's a good thing that we aren't going because we don't have a vehicle to drive! Dh started changing the spark plugs/wires on my van yesterday, but didn't get them done. There are a few of them that are a bear to get to. And he hasn't even had a chance to look at the truck yet. I am feeling a lot better today! We normally don't have much schoolwork scheduled on Tuesdays, but we'll do what we have & what we didn't get finished yesterday (which was just art). Maybe we can get some housework done too - depends on how I feel. This tends to come in waves for me - where I feel really good for a while & then feel awful!

Birthday candle noodles=gemelli
Radiator pasta=radiatore

I have harvest loaf and banana bread in the oven. Proofing some yeast now. Plan is to get bread baked and dinner in the slow cooker so I can go out for a ride. It's just a short 1-2hr ride. Good thing 'cuz it's kinda chilly out there.

We just watched the movie I Am David, about a 12 year old boy who escapes from a concentration camp and has to find his way to Denmark. Very good, kid-friendly, but still realistic movie, if anyone is interested...I got it from Netflix.

Cynthia,

I wasn't trying to argue with you-I was just having fun! Sorry it didn't come across that way.

His,
You feel my pain. The odd thing is that the insert for the slow cooker also has that burnt smell. And I don't think I can do anything about that.

Kara,

That's one thing we don't miss here-the constant shoveling of snow.

We are off to a general play date for homeschoolers. Folks from my group will be there as well as others. I'm sure my blessing will have fun. It is at a park and rec and they open up the gym and let the kids go. There are jump ropes, scooters, pool, air hockeu and others. Although it's a nice day today so it's a shame to have them inside. And it is on my side of town which is always nice.

Would vinegar help remove the smell? Not sure, but it's a thought...

Ds2 put a hole in the wall this morning. Something about doing Spiderman... There is a 12"x6" hole, right next to the light switch. What he was thinking, I'll never know...

Okay, bread baked (harvest loaf, banana bread, 2 loaves of whole wheat), and lasagna casserole in the oven. One load of laundry done. Now, I get to go for a ride!!!

We got that movie from Netflix a while back. I agree, it was a good movie.

We are watching Night at the Museum at the moment. We've seen it a dozen times already, but the boys like it so they got it from Netflix again. It is a cute movie.

his, Ds's math book is almost the same as the one he used last year. We are skipping the stuff he knows and going over the stuff he has forgotten.
I think there's only a chapter or two that are different than last year's book!

Cindy, I hope the goat in the picture isn't one of the dearly departed!!!

BTW, Ds told me if we move from here, he is going to miss CTV!
Ds wants to know if you have ever watched Corner Gas on tv?
