We just finished our Thanksgiving dinner. Jesse got a candle in a piece of pie. He is officially 12 years old.

My kids were having long discussions with my brother over Christmas lists - the motto around here is who needs Santa, we've got Uncle Paul. He is single with no kids so he tends to spoil mine rotten at Christmas. So far none of them has complained.

I am expecting the Christmas Decorating Elf to appear at any moment and transform my house. She usually shows up as the leftovers are being put away. It's wonderful to have a resident elf. I generally don't have to do anything.

I braved the sales this morning. I started at 9 and the crowds weren't too bad. There weren't any good deals left though. That's OK, the crowds scare me, so there's no way I'd go earlier. Did you all read that a WalMart employee was crushed to death in NY? That's so sad. I think they need to do something different with the Black Friday sales.

I did manage to get Joe a pair of insulated overalls, kind of like Carhart. I'm thinking it's going to be a bad winter and they'll be nice for him when he's shoveling at our house and the neighbors'. I also found some nice tops for me at the resale shop. Now that I've lost some weight, it's fun to shop again. I still have a long way to go, but I'm down a couple of sizes and needed to get at least a few things that fit properly.

I looked at the sale ads and there wasn't anything worth going out for. The only thing that peaked my interest at all were the jar candles at A.C. Moore for $2 each. I went later in the day and got some for $3. Actually later in the day was good there. They had coupons for 50% off one regular priced item. DD got in one line and I went in another line.

We went to a consignment/antique shop this afternoon. I found a cute little sewing table that I might go back and get tomorrow (they have it on hold for me) and a set of dishes that I would love to have!! Oh well, I will see if they are still there tomorrow.

Hello, we are back from our Thanksgiving in MN. It was fun. One of my boys is still up there, I'll pick him up Tuesday, we will meet half way.

I use to go shopping the day after Thanksgiving in Billings MT, it really wan't too bad there. About the only store that would have a big long line would be Best Buy or Office Max. And, Toys R Us would have long lines in the store, but not outside the store waiting to get in...... Anyways, where my parents live is a different story. My dad went this morning to buy a monitor that was on sale. He said it was absolutely horrible to go shopping. So, I told my mom it wasn't worth the hassle and so we stayed home. It was nice

Thanks to whoever it was that mentioned the CBD sale on hoodies and shirts. I was able to get a hoodie and long sleeve t-shirt for my ds.

Today is going to be a day of rest for me. For once we went out on black Friday and shopped til mom dropped! We only went to two places, one only stayed briefly and didn't buy anything there. The store where we did buy is one where I don't normally shop. The sales were really good. What was really nice was that I was able to get a gift for each family member (immeadiate - 4) and a baby birthday gift.

I love being about to get everything I need or want in one place. Also bought dd a leather purse in a neutral color that is not faddish. I paid 1/2 of what th other store we visited was advertising their "sale" purses for. I also found a pair of dress slacks for me for $9.99. The tag says they are Rose Haggar. They were short (yeah!), black, stretchy, low waisted (I have large waist) and a size smaller than I thought I would have to wear! And they fit! They were really comfortable. I usually just pick out the size I think will fit, take them home to try on and then take them back later if they don't fit. I just don't like undressing in stores anymore.

A scary peek in ezri's head...

We have lived in Military quarters A LOT.

From 1988-1997 when we bought out home in VA, then again 2000-2002. before that I was a Navy Brat... so add another 10 years to the in military quarters tally. That is a lot of years in government maintained facilities. I have always *joked* about them having surveillance cameras in the houses. My husband and I would be laying in bed and I'd tell him that I knew why the bedrooms were so small... because the camera in the end of the ceiling light fixture could only cover so many square foot.

We are now in out oown place.... LOL! I walk into this huge bathroom with 2 of the walls is covered in mirrors- what do you think I said? Extra mirrors so they have to use less cameras to get full coverage of the room. Yeah, uncle sam is so interested in my family that he is designing double wide trailer houses so that if I happen to buy one they can watch me shower to make sure I am not selling secrets to the enemy while I shave my armpits??? LOL! But wait... maybe the folks we bought it from were our contacts annd they installed the cameras to watch and be sure we did not go turncoat.

I am joking honestly- I do kid honey about cameras and suvielance and all. Uncle sam has a lot of money and training tied up in you love. they want to know what you are up to... remember when you had that surgery? Well now you have a camera in your eye and they see everything you see so CLOSE YOUR EYES WHEN I AM NEKKID!

LOL ez!

Donna, love your avatar!

Hello to everyone else. I have returned from my self-imposed exile.

And I would like to say, "The Lord is good to those who fear Him."

And that's all I've got to say about that. Would you like a choklit?

WB, Shadow. Yes, I would love chocklit.

Ez, I'm with Donna. I don't think I wanna go inside your head again unless I'm sufficiently armed.

I think our guinea pig is dying. We talked about him on Thursday. My dad asked if he had died yet and I said "Not yet" like I was hopeful. I have kind of been waiting for it since I can barely afford to take care of 4 people. His "friend" died about 6 months ago and we got the friend about 6 months before this one.

He's been kind of listless today and his eyes are kind of glossed over. He just tried jump out of the cage through the wires. Then he tried to crawl under his little house which he had flipped upside down. I turned it over and put it over him. It's almost like he was looking for some place private to die.

zoe--sorry to hear about the piggie.

I did not go out on Black Friday! I had a very busy "weekend". Wednesday evening dh took me up to Grandma's, then he came back home. The rest fo the family came up on Thursday and we had a very nice Thanksgiving. We came home that evening. Yesterday ds1 and I rode up to Grandma's and spent the night. We rode home today.

I am so tired, but the house is trashed. Mostly just the kitchen. It shouldn't take that long, but I'm tired!

So sorry Zoe, hope your kids will be okay with it.

I keep hearing little "crunchy" sounds coming from under our oven. I know we have a shrew in the house again... I'm hoping it is the same one I've seen and not another critter.

I've been trying to make a manger scene with NO money for our Christmas play coming up, out of cardboard boxes. It is coming up in TWO WEEKS!!! UHG!!! You can all pray it comes together just fine! THis is my first attempt to do one and it will probably be my last.... at least for this age group. If you have ANY tips to make this manger scene/nativity that is very inexpensive and with no straw due to people's allergies... let me know. I am going to purchase some straw scrapbook paper... but I need to figure out how to paint or do the walls so it doesn't look just like cardboard.

Annie, you can outline stone shapes on the cardboard with black paint or marker, then sponge paint with gray (a couple of different shades makes it more realistic) to look like stone. We all tend to assume a wooden barn, but at that time period it's at least as likely, if not more so, that the animals were housed in a cave.

I was the one with tummy trouble today, although not too bad. The kids are doing better, but not all the way over it yet. We are not going to church tomorrow. They are combing Rebekah's class with another one.

ETA: I can't believe that Jesse is 12! I still think of him as the little boy with the guinie pig.

I'm glad your husband isn't the one with long hair in the pink top. That would be weird.

I had an interesting opportunity to witness to a stranger today. She was interviewing me about homeschooling for a college paper. She wanted to understand what the point is of teaching the Bible to children. I explained to her that it teaches us how to live and quoted where Jesus said, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul and might and love your neighbor as yourself.... This sums up the law and the prophets." And explained that sums up the teaching of the Bible and I want to pass that on to my children. I told her that we can have a personal relationship with God. She wanted to know what Bible translation she should read and where she should start. I told her to get the NIV and start with the gospel of John and told her it's the fourth book in the New Testament. Hopefully I will get a chance to follow up with her.

My husband is on the roof putting up lights. I hate him being on the roof. He acts like it's no big deal.

Cindy, Sufficiently armed as in wearing your foil hat and carrying a box of Kleenexes?

Ellie, sorry you are not feeling top o the world.

Cynthia, hope your Honey is doing okay on top o your world.

Shadow, Got to see you again, nice to know you did not fall off o the world.

His, Glad to hear the ride went well.

Zoe, Bah to lil piggies not doing too good.

Homegrown, Manger scene on cardboard. if you have some grey paint you could roll the walls then use a sharpie to make the rock shapes. Hay. Yellow and orange plastic table cloths from dollar tree all sliced up.

Donna, glad you got a good giggle outta my strange head.

My fun today was the fella that owns the dog coming to get her unannounced... and the house being trashed. 4 pair of shoes... two sleeping bags... a couple blankets... a couple towels (one in the dogs crate). the dogs chewed up leash. a chewed up dog toy. our tidy cats litter bucket "stools"/"Foot rests"... Probably 4 or 5 books and at least a dozen of the 200 plus movies in the floor too. Oh the one dog toy that had been chewed apart had poly fiber fill in it soooo that was all over the place too.

The tree looked nice.

Worse? us gals were all still in our jammies! It was noon.

Even more worser? My newly 11 yo and his 9yo brother actually LET THEM IN BEFORE THEY CAME AND GOT ME!!!

*sigh*

Thankfully it was just him and the eldest daughter. I grabbed a wrap and quickly slipped out of my knit jammies and into my slacks. The two that opened the door told him the heat was out so I had to explain that to him and that it had not been below 62* in the house and that someone was coming on Monday. It left me an open to let him know that I looked like hades due to my staying up late(2am) to make sure the house was staying warm enough over night. I do look bad. Really, no lie. How many of you would be looking forward to a shower when it was 62* in the house and your bathroom was the coldest room in the house??? Meaning that my bathroom is probably 50 something degrees. I need to suck it up and just do it though.

he offered his kerosene heater. They scare me. I had a friend who lost a brother in highschool because of not having proper ventilation. We are doing the fire logs and the baking. today, it has kept is near 70* all day.

*Double sigh*

Cynthia, my Dh has been on the roof putting up lights today too. It's dark now and he's still rigging up lights and probably will be until late. I am surprised that he hasn't gone to the store for more strands of lights yet.

Ezri... I'm kinda glad you shared about your trashed house! Mine is trashed right now. I have a laundry basket, a sweater, shoes, snow pants, a pillow, a sippy cup, a hair brush and numerous DVD's/Videos and a few toys on my floor as I write this. It is a magnet for someone to come over unannounced! If that isn't bad, half the time my DD is using our couch cushions to make forts with.

Thanks 2jsmom . I like it, too. I don't have hardly any pictures of my Dh and I together. I have wedding pics, but they are getting old.

Well, the piggie did die. My parents buried it but the kids didn't want to be part of the funeral. They already had 3 piggies buried in my parents' yard and have been to 2 real funerals in the last few years (one in March)

Zoe...sorry about the piggy.

Ezri...I hope that you have heat again quickly.

And "Black Friday" sales...there's nothing like getting up at 2:00 AM to be at work at 3:30 (when you really want to be there in a housecoat and slippers) to face the 4:00 shoppers. It was busy and a very fast paced 9.5 hour work day. I was home by 1:30...just in time for a nice lunch of leftovers and a collapse on the couch.

I'm sitting here listening to the rain...our region is in a prolonged drought so the rain is a true blessing. Thankfully it is in the upper 30's in temperature.
