At least, I THINK it is, since I've never had one before. Woke up around 3:00 am - twice - feeling like I had to go. When I tried, very little came out, but it felt... funny. Not quite burning, not quite peeing glass. Those all sound too severe. This was more just a slight discomfort. This morning when I got up for good, I peed less than usual for a morning and it felt the same weird way.

I DO have a can of frozen cranberry juice concentrate in the freezer "just in case," so I'm thawing it out. What else should I be doing? How long will I have this?

I'm clueless.

My first UTI. Does that mean I'm officially a woman?

I think you are supposed to take pro-biotics at a time like this.

Drink drink drink. The more you drink and pee, the less time the little buggies have to attach to your insides and grow. Basically you are flushing them out.

If you start peeing blood, see a dr. And it can go downhill real fast. So yes, lots of REAL cranberry juice, cut the sugar (sugar makes things like this grow), straight plain yogurt, and water.

(I've had more than my fair share of UTI's. Not fun.)

if symptoms do not go away after a day, go to the dr. UTIs do not go away on their own.

If you're really curious, drug stores sell UTI detection strips. They look like PH strips that you use for pool chemical monitoring. If the strip is negative, drink LOTS and LOTS of fluids. If it is positive, see a dr. ASAP!

I've had my share of UTIs and they are no fun.

If the symptoms become too much to bare before you can see a dr, Uristat will relieve the symptoms until you can get anti-biotics.

Avoid orange juice, grapefruit juice, and other highly acidic drinks/foods.

Sometimes I get urinary irritation that's not a full blown infection, it goes away after a couple of days on it's own. But a full blown UTI needs to be medically treated, it can easily spread to your bladder or kidneys, and trust me, you do NOT want to go there.

Thanks for the tips. So far today I've drunk 36 oz of cranberry juice. I'm out. I'll drink more water.

At the risk of TMI (but this IS about my physical symptoms!), I've found that when I pee, it's not uncomfortable until my bladder is nearly empty; that's when I start feeling the weird sensation.

Yep, that's about right. A discomfort or burning is what I usually feel.

yes it sounds like a UTI, drink lot's of water, and also I found it helps a lot, go to any drug store or even a walmart, and they should have concentrated cranberry pills, take about 3 twice a day (it helps a LOT)

Yesterday evening it was worse - peeing some blood. I drank a tubful of water. When I went to the bathroom this morning, it felt almost normal. It has been feeling a bit painful through the morning, but no more blood, and the pain is less than yesterday evening.

I went to the store this morning for yogurt, cranberry juice, AND cranberry pills. I've drunk 9 cups of water and 1 cup of juice in the last 4 hours or so.

The walk-in clinic opened at 1:00, so I'll probably head down there soon for a prescription of antibiotics.

You are doing all you can at this point, however, glad to hear you are heading to the dr.

Let us know how it goes!

Yep, got an infection. They found evidence in my "sample."

I got some antibiotics (2x a day for 3 days), and the doc said I should start noticing an improvement in 24 hours. Yippee!

That antibiotic is THE best for UTIs. I can't remember the name off the top of my head, but it's awesome!

And you'll see an improvement in about 4 hours I think. I usually do anyway. It's almost immediate.

Uggh...I get these all the time. Doctor doesn't even bother testing my urine because he knows that I know what it is.

Did you get a prescription for Phenazao? The one that turns your urine orange? That will take the symptoms away almost right away.

Also, during one of my last ones I did some research and found that if you take a vitamin c tablet before you go to bed it helps. I guess the vitamin c fights that bacteria that can build up while you are asleep. I've tried it and it helps (I'm able to fight mine off if I realize early what's going on with a lot of cranberry juice.) You could do the vitamin c as a preventative measure.

No, not that one, Lexie. This is Sulfa-something. Sulfatrim?

I haven't heard of that one. I get Phenazao for the symptoms and Macrobid for the infection.

I went to Urgent Care for my last UTI. They didn't take a sample either based on my history (which was what I told him, not anything from my dr) and he gave me a script with 2 refills. I was stoked. I used one refill in April. The other is still sitting waiting to be used. But the refill itself expires in a month, so it won't get used. Especially since I wouldn't refill it without consulting a dr. right now anyway.

I can't remember the name of the stuff they give me. But I think it might be ciprofloxacin.

At one point my dr. prescribed me a low dose antibiotic to take regularly to prevent future UTIs. I had a hard time accepting the idea of taking that. I think I took it when I thought I might feel symptoms coming. Which was OK he said. I just dont' want to take an antibiotic every day and then develop antibiotic resistant bacteria and get resistant UTIs. Not fun!

They seem to have subsided for now. This is the longest I've gone without symptoms since they started over 2 years ago. I do a little happy dance and thank God when I think of how comfortable I am now.

I finally stopped having recurring UTI's when I cut out orange juice and grapefruit juice ( two of my favorites). I can't even remember the last time I had one, and I used to have one every few months.

I had two my first year of marriage. I had an older woman tell me some advice and have used it ever since. I hope I can share this. Basically, urinate after intimacy and wash yourself. I haven't had a UTI since.

I'm not sure what you mean by "wash yourself," but yeah, I do the other.

I lived by that advice and every other piece of UTI advice and still got them. it was like I was doomed.

I didn't change a thing and now they're gone.

I've always been prone to UTI's-- got the first one when I was 10, got them ALL the time years ago when I was sexually active (yes, even with urinating after sex), and even got a few out of the blue over the years when I was celibate. I've always drunk a lot of water, but stopping wearing thongs finally helped while I was celibate. Anyway, I just knew I was bound to get the occasional UTI again once I married. Well, we've been married over 7 months now, and I've been completely UTI-free!! I fully credit cranberry capsules-- I take one after sex with a big glass of water (and am still sure to urinate right after, as well). Works for me!

I don't get them at often, but I find sleeping freestyle helps air out that area and makes things better.

I also find I get them more since I don't have a bath tub. I used to take a bath 1 time every 1-2 weeks, and it seemed to help them not come.

I am glad I don't have to go see the Dr for them anymore. I send an email and she sends the prescription to the pharmacy. Yeah!

I get relief when i take the meds by the next morning.
