ORIGINAL: TMeeks Todd. I know that in your world facts do seem to matter. I know that putting a fact in front of you means nothing. But, here are a series of facts that have NOTHING to do with those that found them. Fact 1) Ayers wrote a book called Prairie Fire in 1974. You can read it yourself, here. Fact 2) In that book, on page 5, there are people to whom the book is dedicated. Fact 3) On line 13, Sirhan Sirhan is listed. Now, Fox didn't write this book. Ayers did. quote:
ORIGINAL: todd_t It's not a question of making excuses. It's that no one I know takes Hannity or WorldNutDaily even remotely seriously. If either are your go-to sources for political news, I just don't know what to tell you. I don't think I've seen anybody defending Ayers; those of us who don't care about this issue see the relationship as one that was not close and one that has little bearing on Obama's character, trustworthiness and ability to successfully execute the duties of the POTUS. Adding this book dedication to the list of things Ayers did in the past is like spitting in the ocean - we know what kind of guy he is (or at least was). You may as well tell us that Bill Clinton had another girlfriend, or that Ted Stevens had another $10K stuffed in a 2nd freezer. -Dan. That was Rep. William Jefferson (D-LA; not to be confused with the full first and middle name of the 42nd President) that had the "cold cash". I'm not 100% certain, but I think what Stevens did had something to do with a contracting business his son ran...or something like that.

Now I COMPLETELY understand!!!!! You have my sympathies! And, I thought you didn't have any contact with Radicals! When I was teaching, I REFUSED to use Bob Jones textbooks. They might be different now; but, 25-30 years ago I considered them a form of intellectual torture. quote:
ORIGINAL: iluvatar Ya know what, you're probably right. The A Beka and Bob Jones curricula certainly are distorted and my education did have a definite slant. quote:
Sounds like a typical democrat to me. Except that I'm a registered Republican, always have been, and have never voted for any way but Republican. -Dan. I still have hope that you will continue to be smarter than to vote for Obama. You can correct anything that McCain is able to get past the Senate and House. But, you will NEVER be able to recover what will be lost when Pelosi, Reid and Obama work their magic in deep and fundamentally radical directions. It will be something that you will regret for a long, long time. It will be MUCH worse than having to overcome the damage of a Bob Jones textbook! ** The real problem with the Bob Jones science textbooks is that they try too hard to prove their scientific credentials by torturing students with a billion terms and minutia that turns students off to science. Science is about discovery and the joy of exploration. There was no room for that in the textbooks they were publishing at the time. Their science textbooks were more like dictionaries than adventures in learning about God's wonderful world.

If he's not attending the church for any sort of deep Christian theology, why does he go to church? So he can be seen going to church? Or is the problem maybe about the "Christian theology?" Maybe another "theology" is what he is about? Help me out, here. I'm trying to understand your point. quote:
ORIGINAL: iluvatar Theologically, I think the church is on very shaky ground (to say the least), but I don't think it reflects poorly on Obama's judgement if he's not attending the church for any sort of deep Christian theology. -Dan.

I could be wrong, but I get the impression that his "Christianity" is more one of tradition, culture, good deeds, and some sort of spirituality - similar to how many (not all) American Catholics and Jews attend mass/temple out of tradition and a vague sense of duty w/o really delving into their respective theologies. -Dan.

At least in local politics, the church can be a powerful polical tool in some communities. I suspect that it was the Politics of Wright's church that was the draw. The problem with assessing Obama's spirituality is that the term 'Born Again' has become so ubiquitous as to become meaningless as a measure of faith. Even in evangelical circles it is more cliche than defining. It's become a symbol of 'I've Got a Golden Ticket' theology and is no longer descriptive of true spirit rebirth through the indwelling of God's Holy Spirit. quote:
