I think your feelings are natural and appropriate in this scenario stimulus. However, I wouldn't keep putting yourself in one on one situations until you know his intentions. Awkward, yes! But a pseudo wife you need not be, it's not fair to either of you. I don't think to let yourself travel further down this path is morally wrong per se, but it's going to hurt that much worse to continue to invest in a temporary relationship. I'm not saying you can't care for him unless you're a couple, but I think it's wise for you to both at least be on the same page.

Yeah, I don't know that it's "morally wrong" (ie, sin), but I don't think it's beneficial to me personally or spiritually. I plan to accept his next ("what to go to dinner? it'll just be us tonight") invitation, enjoy the conversation, and then ask what's up at the end. Assuming it goes as expected, it'll be our last pseudo-date. I may tell him I need to re-establish some other boundaries, too - like not being the one he calls for help and not having such personal conversations - so I don't keep feeling like we're playing marriage.

Sounds completely logical! And as trite as it sounds, I understand how confusing and painful this is. Please keep us posted! I pray this guy is as upstanding as you're hoping he is. Keep seeking God! You're totally on the right path.
