Since I haven't started a thread in the elections folder I thought I'd start this one before anyone else. Post results as they come in.

Dixville Notch has spoken: It's Obama in a landslide Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama emerged victorious in the first election returns of the 2008 presidential race, winning 15 of 21 votes cast in Dixville Notch, New Hampshire.

I'm afraid this is going to influence my vote (granted, that I cast last week), for I like to go with the winner.

LOL. You forgot that newspaper that is bi-monthly that called Obama the winner because they won't have an issue out until way after the election. Sunshine or something. Forget the name of the newsrag. I voted today, but my mind was made up at the Saddleback thing. Actually, before that. But from that night, I was also voting "for" McCain instead of just "against" Obama. LOL.

when will we most likely be able to know? when all the polls close, or could they predict it as most definitely even before the votes are all counted? and what about if the loser demands a recount. we might have to wait a week!! i cannot stand the suspense.

when all the polls close, or could they predict it as most definitely even before the votes are all counted? It depends on how close the voting result are. If it turns out to be a very close election, we may not know for sure until tomorrow. Or even next week if any states require recounts. I hope it's not that close.

It's really eerie here at work. We have a levy on the ballot. After so much fever pitch campaigning, the silence is deafening. It's as though everyone is holding their breath around here.

So, how is Dixville Notch's record at pickin' em? Well, according to the article this was the first time since 1968 that they leaned Democratic in an election. I don't feel like working out what their percentage would be.

I was told that a vote for Bob Barr or any of the "other" candidates would swing to Obama because they don't in and of themselves stand a chance of winning. My question is, will those "other" votes, swing any of these possible real swing states?

So, how is Dixville Notch's record at pickin' em? I read on National Review that Dixville Notch is wrong every 16 years. The last time they were wrong was 1992 when they chose Bush over Clinton. It looks right according to a cursory glance at wikipedia. If the article said they had not voted democrat since 1968, it would be wrong as they voted for Clinton in 1996.

Which means all those votes will be tossed because it is a violation to start counting votes before the polls close.
