He did win very quickly. I can't remember an election that was "over" by midnight. I usually have to wait until I wake up in the morning to see who won.

like i said, im very happy for the older people who lived thru the terrible civil rights marches.. you could see the tears on their faces.. for them i am especially happy. I was a little kid about in 8th grade, so i remember it at that age. i lived thru it, but on the sidelines.

Whilst I disagree with the man's politics and policies. Whilst I do not think we know enough about Barak Obama and his history I do want to say that I am proud of my country. To elect a black man as president only 150 short years after slavery, only 50 years from civil rights movements that really changed our country. Although, I heard a commentator this morning make a great point, this isn't historic in the sense that MLK JR. "had a dream" that men not be elected based on the color of their skin and I definately think that there was a lot of that going on, I also believe that the chapter on racism in this country is over and at least that is a good thing!
I just have one question to the moderators- SO? When do we get the Obama Critique, One Stop Thread?????

Again, racism is an ongoing thing. This IS a huge step though.
Yes people voted for him because he is black.
Yes people voted AGAINST him because he is black.
And if you realize the underlying message behind MLK's dream, this is a huge step towards realizing that dream.

I guess I'm just not a good liar. It is like when I was a kid playing baseball. There was one time that we lost a game because of some HORRIBLE calls by the ump.... who just happened to be the father of two of the kids on the other team!!!! We still lined up at the end and went down the line "good gaming" everyone on the other team, but we knew the only reason they won was because they cheated.
So, "good game" to Obama and I really truly sincerely hope he is successful now that he is in, but it was by no means an honorable victory.
