We had this discussion quite a while ago (maybe 2 years). But the mods don't like us bumping old threads, plus many of our answers may have changed. So I thought I'd post it again. Feel free to post either numbers of CDs/tapes/LPs or, if you're in the digital era, number of songs.

Currently I have 2363 songs on iTunes, roughly 2300 of which are SG. I have both of Valor's projects on the way, though, so that will push it up a little.

I used to hesitate telling people how many CDs, records, and cassettes I have but, next to y'all, I don't have many at all.

I know what that feels like! If I mention to most people how many songs I have—even singers and industry types—they're like, "Wow, that's crazy!" But here, I know my collection is beat by far by Adam Edwards, seaton, DJS, and Dean Adkins and John Crenshaw (the two who have some of the most impressive collections in SG, virtually every album by every major group!) But I must confess to being very curious: How many do you have? (Note I count songs from videos in my number, since I've added the songs from my videos to iTunes.)

If we count "by marriage", I'm probably the most Yankee person on here. I got rid of my 8-tracks a few years ago. In Myrtle Beach last month, while Mrs. K was in the Teacher Store, I went into the antique store next door and ended up buying seven old SG albums. None of my albums or cassettes have been converted to digital (though Santa brought me the software and a turntable last year). That is a project for a rainy month.

I don't know about that, Daniel . . . but I do consider myself fortunate to have most of the recorded works by what I consider "major" groups. There are a few groups that others call "major" that I never saw the need or desire to collect. Those of you that know me may be able to figure out who some of those groups happen to be! I have about 1800 group (quartet, trio, mixed) LPs and about 300 solo LPs. I also have about 700 45s, about 300 78s, several hundred videos, and probably 2000 CDs. No clue about the cassettes. Many of my CDs are old albums that I've digitally restored, unreleased recordings, live concerts, and old gospel radio programs. I was talking to one of my collecting buddies today. We have shared hundreds of recordings through the years. We were just recalling how very blessed we have been to have been able to acquire and accumulate so much of this great music that we love so dearly. I also collect other types of music, too. But you didn't ask about that! Daniel, funny you should mention Chuck Wagon Gang. I just added 8 Chuck Wagon LPs to my collection this week. John Crenshaw

I think I know some of the groups on your non-collect list. How does one go about finding old Gospel radio programs? I've never seen one on eBay or Amazon.

I have 896 CDs plus 80 Christmas CDs. A few of these are cassettes but I'm not sure how many. All are SG or Country Gospel with a few Christmas exceptions.

ORIGINAL: danielmount Fascinating! I think I know some of the groups on your non-collect list. How does one go about finding old Gospel radio programs? I've never seen one on eBay or Amazon. LOL at non-collect list! I have collected recordings by groups that I just don't like . . . they sit on my shelf and never make it to the turntable. There are a few groups that I won't even allow on my shelves! I'm afraid they might rub off on the good groups! Old radio programs are tough to find. I've been collecting gospel music recordings since I was ten years old (that's 42 years ago), so time has been on my side. As I stated in my original post, I've been blessed by knowing lots of people with whom I have shared and traded radio programs. In the years before Ebay, there were a few dealers who sold gospel radio programs on cassette, but of course they didn't have permission or the rights to do so. This is where the long arm of the law stopped the exchange of these historical recordings. Luckily, I got many of them before they got that letter from the lawyer. In my collecting, I have bought collections from the estate of deceased artists. Among those collections I've found transcription discs, cassette copies, and reel to reel tapes of radio programs. Some artists have also shared things from their private collections. Once in a while, I'll find an origianal transcription disc on Ebay but they are few and far between. So you see, there is no set manner to find radio shows. All I have done is keep my eyes and ears opened and every now and again I got lucky. I believe that the Blackwood Brothers and the Rangers Quartet are about the only groups that have released old radio programs to the general public since the days of CD recordings.
