ORIGINAL: d4nnyb0y02 Which do you prefer when someone comes to correct you, if you *could only pick one* for yourself? This question assumes we would be open to correction, of course. :) As far as *effectiveness* goes... do you prefer another Christian give you... D4nnyb0y02 - you have some of the BEST threads! For me, if a Christian comes with love (if they know me... they know to come also with humor), they'll have my attention. I try to be open to correction and teachable - because I KNOW there's SO MUCH I don't know. A friend once said, "You just need to go pray about such and such or I'm going to have to just throw you on the altar" - lol she didn't have to throw me, I just went! Another friend who knew she could speak freely told me flat out, "PJ, that's pride and you need to repent" She was right and I did. In each situation, I know it was totally motivated by love and I may have been annoyed at first, but it was good for me. The Lord does me the same way many times - He's so sweet in His dealings, but I always know that He means business.

I did not vote. Neither choice fit my really fit my answer: Doing something sinful only makes you feel good temporaily (sp?). Being with God feels good all the time.

No one likes to be told about themselves, but as caring brothers and sisters a gentle mention is appropriate, but ultimately conviction of the holy spirit and true, break thru repenetence is the only turning point. You don't just have to be at the alter to kneel at the foot of the cross, but if you repent, leave the sin at the foot of the cross, and sin no more.

I can not answer this question. I know you said you can only pick one, but every situation is different and needs to be dealt with accordingly. Sometimes all it takes is a gentle rebuke and other times it takes a swift kick in the butt. Oddly enough I have actually prayed for the latter, you know, a slap on the head, or a kick in the butt, to set me straight. So I guess I would say an Exortative rebuke. PS- not that I know what exortative means, but since it is opposite of gentle, I would say that is the one.(and yes I will go look it up right now) edit from here on-in bold I thought it was spelled wrong, but still was unsure of the meaning(until now) WordNet: exhortative Note: click on a word meaning below to see its connections and related words. The adjective has one meaning: Meaning #1: giving strong encouragement Synonyms: exhortatory, hortative, hortatory and no this does not fit with my swift kick in the rump theory. now this one fits better exhort One entry found. Main Entry: ex·hort Listen to the pronunciation of exhort Pronunciation: \ig-ˈzȯrt\ Function: verb Etymology: Middle English, from Anglo-French exorter, from Latin exhortari, from ex- + hortari to incite — more at yearn Date: 15th century transitive verb : to incite by argument or advice : urge strongly <exhorting voters to do the right thing> intransitive verb : to give warnings or advice : make urgent appeals — ex·hort·er noun
