It amazes me how when reknown preachers don't have enough God in them to pray for another person who views differ. I read an article regarding Rev. Billy Graham who is frail and celebrated his birthday today. Happy Birthday!!
Here is my concern Rev. Graham who is ailing was able to meet with John McCain however, when Barack Obama came to North Carolina to meet with him he was too sick. Now, what a coincidence is this a double standard or what? I am sadly disappointed in that as Christians we should pray for people and respect their point of view regardless of how different.

While it's true that some Christians practice double standard, we can't just assume that this is what Reverend Graham was doing. Until we know more information about what happened, or until he's given us some explanation about why he didn't meet with Obama, let's not go assuming that he is being unfair to the president elect. We simply must try to get all the information before we start judging someone, especially someone who is well known in the public eye. It's not fair to him.

All one has to do is look at all of the other people that Billy Graham has met with in the past to realize that he wouldn't have shunned Obama. If he was going to avoid people because of their point of view, he would have begun doing that long ago rather than waiting until he was ninety years old to begin shunning those whose opinions differed from his own.

You are blatantly wrong. You do not know what his infirmities entails, so do not be so quick to judge as it may come back to you.
People who are sick have good and bad days and you are trying to read something into this.
Let me ask you this, when you have the flu or another ailment do you always wish to have company?
I am the type of person that if I am ill, be warned do not enter the threshold, I may have a shotgun waiting!
I would rahter be left alone during that stage and when I am fairing well, then it is a possibility I may receive you.

From Yahoo News Nov 7, 2008 on his 90th birthday:

'...Franklin Graham said in an interview that his father's mind remains sharp even as his body continues to fail(Parkinson's disease). But the preacher who has counseled every president beginning with Eisenhower is not in line to mentor Obama.

"My father feels like his time and day for that is over," Franklin Graham said. "But he would certainly like to meet (Obama) and pray with and for him."

Graham's views of the world are still respected in White House circles. Republican presidential candidate John McCain visited Graham at his mountainside home during the campaign, and Obama tried to meet Graham but wasn't able to do so because of the preacher's poor health...Though never partisan in his preaching, Billy Graham is a registered Democrat....

"He's always been ready to die," Franklin Graham said. "But nobody's prepared him for getting old."'

Billy Graham has always welcomed the opportunity to counsel and pray for anyone in authority and that includes Obama. He is 90 years old and not well which means he will have good days and bad.

Read Doctor Grahams book and it taught me many things and I believe God has used him mightily. Dr Graham has been criticised for many things by all sides in his many years and he by his own admission has made mistakes. It is best to let the man speak for himself and in faith always hope for the best rather than to suggest evil for such is the demand of the love of God.

I remember Tiger Woods being asked to the whitehouse once and saying no because he saw them as only wanting to use him for their own political ends. Dr Graham has in my opinion only been too happy to go anyway for the sake of the gospel and the love of Christ. I am also sure he would be saddened that he was not able to meet with the president to be.

AMEIN!!!!!

Furthermore, meeting with Obama could have caused undue stress on Mr. Graham. Good night, at the age of 90, the man can do what he wants, see whom he wants, and say what he wants. I take those liberties, and I am 30 years younger!

In my opinion, you could not be more wrong!

If his strength holds up, Graham will definitely meet with Obama, if that is what Obama would like.

We were recently in Charlotte and visited The Billy Graham Library. My husband and I were awestruck at this place. Although it celebrates Billy Graham's life and ministry in some measure, Billy Graham was downplayed and Christ was lifted up throughout. There was no question about Who the place was built to honor---Christ and Him alone. We came away with a deeper and more profound respect for Billy Graham.

It reminds me of John the Baptist. He must increase but I must decrease. These are the days of Billy Graham's decreasing in even larger measure. Lord, bless this faithful servant and be with him as he ends his time on earth. Amen.

My mother has parkinsons and it is a devasting disease, so it is understandable if he could not meet with the new elected president. He should not warrent it as a rejection. (I heard he did)
My mother has her good and bad day and refuses to take medication for it. She is a strong woman, always has been.
But I say a prayer for Mr William(Billy) Graham and that he will have peace during this time of his illness and embrace Home when his time comes.

We sure are losing, and close to losing some giants of the faith. Jerry Falwell, Adrian Rogers, and now Billy Graham is getting closer to his reward as well. I am glad there are people like Johnny Hunt, Jonathan Falwell, Franklin Graham and others taking up the mantle. God Bless these men whose lives have helped so many

IT AMAZES ME THAT SOME WHO DOESNT EVEN KNOW MR GRAHAM WOULD PRESUME TO KNOW HIS VEIWS ON ANYTHING.
IT AMAZES ME WHEN SOMEONE PRESUMES TO KNOW HOW MUCH GOD IS IN SOMEONE!
IT AMAZES ME HOW SOME PEOPLE WILL PURPOSLY TRY AND CAUSE DIVISION AND TURMOIL WHEN THERE IS NO PROBLEM TO START WITH.
IT AMAZES ME WHEN A 90 YEAR OLD MAN WHO HAS SEVERAL MEDICAL CONDITIONS THAT HE DEALS WITH EVERyDAY IS JUDGED BECAUSE HE IS AILING.
IT AMAZES ME THAT A MAN WHO HAS DEDICATED HIS ENTIRE LIFE MINISTERING TO PEOPLE FROM ALL WALKS OF LIFE AND MANY COUNTRIES WOULS BE JUDGED BECAUSE HE IS ELDERLY AND CANT SERVE AS MUCH AS HE USED TOO!
IT AMAZES ME THAT IT ISNT OK THAT A MAN 90 YEARS OLD CANT CHOOSE WHAT HE WANTS DO DO WITHOUT BEING RIDICULED OR JUDGED!!!

It could be something emotional or psychological when we meet someone we don't like, we simply become sick. Let's not forget that Rev Graham is the Christian leader of the Protestant church in the States, while Obama is not Christian and is planning to become the President of the States. Had I been in his shoes, I would have fell sick. I know I become sick when I have to meet someone I don't like.

I think, however, that we need to pay attention to what Obama says about his beliefs:
quote:

Barack Obama was directly confronted on prime time television last night over allegations swirling around the internet that he is a secret Muslim who worships the Koran, during a Democratic presidential debate in Las Vegas.

Mr Obama, who was raised as a Christian by his white mother despite his Kenyan father being Muslim, has been dogged by smears and innuendo for months that he is in fact an Islamist trying to enter the Oval office by stealth.

"Let's make clear what the facts are: I am a Christian. I have been sworn in with a Bible. I pledge allegiance [to the American flag] and lead the pledge of allegiance sometimes in the United States Senate when I'm presiding."

Mr Obama is a member of Chicago's Trinity United Church of Christ and is an actively practising Christian. But opponents, particularly on the Republican side, delight in reminding people that his middle name is Hussein, taken from his father, a Harvard educated economist who left the family when Mr Obama was two. . . .

You can read the whole article, and meny others, on the Internet. The rest of this one is at http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/us_and_americas/us_elections/article3194740.ece

Oh, come on now, let's get a grip on reality here...

These are the facts: Mr. Graham is 90 years old, recently had a bad fall for which he was hospitalized, and suffers from Late Stage Parkinson's Disease.

Those are adequate reasons to accept that he likely did not feel up to meeting with Obama or anyone on that particular day.

LovelyladyinATL, we've all made that mistake. I apologize if we're sounding harsh in our defense of Billy Graham. He's a very loved and respected man. But I know, I know, I've rushed into judgement too quickly before. We just have to learn from it, right?

Hope we're cool!
